Word of caution - I installed this, and personally didn't like it. But after uninstalling, things got wonky with my Nexus. Minor, but still some issues. ATK - the fonts got all small. BatteryLife - the coloured separation bars got all messed up.
I did a hard reset to fix. Luckily, I have online backup setup with my Gmail account. I personally won't be installing anything HTC anymore.
I've had some funky things happening since installing v3 of it, hard reset and back to normal as can be.
you might need to wait until you have 2.1 on your Droid... although being an HTC kb, it's no surprise it works on the Nexus - might just not jive with Moto device ??

I can not get the High Res Version to go into landscape mode on my Droid, but on the low res version, I get landscape mode. The drawback is it is not the complete screen. Still is better than original keyboard.
It bugged up for me. When i turn my phone the keyboard doesn't take up the whole screen
Anyways I installed Better Keyboard and I love it. Works Swell for me though the voice input doesn't work for some reason. The portrait mode keyboard isn't as great as the htc portrait one, but it's far less *****y and buggy. Just my oppinion though.
and i don't really care to try swype. I have this thing where i need to feel like i'm typing and I just feel lie it'd be a bother to deal with that. I use a t9 for portrait on the move or in class or something. It's just too much of a change for me.

I know some of you don't like the white keys... Personally, that is one thing that is keeping me from switching... Even though I LOVE the HTC Keyboard... and since I am not rooted, I can't use this one, but it's nice...

You have to be on a 2.1 based ROM, otherwise you will get the parse error.

are you sure? i got the parse error and i have an N1. i just completely wiped the thing and then redled it and tried again. went on clean. i chalked it up to a corrupted dl.
Giving this keyboard another shot... there's been many updates since it was first released... up to v18 on the Hi-Res version... some nice improvements...
we'll see how it performs... i just got tired of innaccurate typing and hitting the wrong keys on the stock Nexus/Android keyboard... so giving it another go, despite the white keys...
Installed fine, I waited to uninstall v18 because v25 can install as a seperate keyboard. And thank god I waited to uninstall because I hadn't yet exported my user dictionary. Exported, imported, configured some settings and I'm LOVING v25.
Especially for it's ability to toggle languages with 1 swype and disabling voice input for incompatible languages.
Also very easy to configure your own smileys button and add custom domains to the url .com suggestions.
Also like the ability to make your own themes
I made one in a rush and I'm surprised at how good it actually looks. Might just keep it.
I'm sad to hear it doesn't work for you Roze, I don't see what could be the problem.
I'll attach the files I used because with me it worked fine. I installed the clicker first (uninstalled the old one) and then the kb.

Yes, that allows your phone to download non market app. I want to know where the folder those apps are downloaded to XD I need to reinstall something...and I don't want to redownload it : < It's either hidden or I'm not looking at the right place.
Edit: found it. Its in the browser setting under 'more' --> download

Re: HTC Keyboard (Hi-Res) ported to N1! No Root required!!!!!
I'm using this now and its FAR superior to the stock keyboard, brilliant!
Only thing I can't seem to find are the extra settings, all I see in through settings dialogue are the normal keyboard settings (sound etc), where are the other settings like for adding domains etc?
When you're using the keyboard, simply go into settings and just below the regular settings you'll see "user interface" and "gestures" among others. All these are submenus containing tons of extra customization options. The domains and smileys are in the user interface menu.
Sent from my Nexus One using xScope and my pimped HTC keyboard

Hiya,
yep it seemed id got a strange install, i uninstalled, reinstalled and voila all appeared!
Trying to install the HTC keyboard on my new N1. Loved the keyboard when I had the Incredible; hate the stock N1 keyboard.
I must be doing something wrong -- I download the files to my iMac; unzip the package and then move the two .apk files to my SD card (where they do appear). I have changed my settings to allow non-market apps.
Can't find the keyboard on the N1. I know I'm missing something, but what??
Thanks in advance.

If you haven't done so, go into settings then language & keyboard and select touch input to activate the HTC keyboard. To switch your keyboards, long press on the input/ text box and in edit text select input method and pick the keyboard you want.
Just curious what made you switch from the Incredible to the Nexus?
I don't see a "touch input" option in keyboard settings. I'm sure I'm missing/not seeing something. The two files that I downloaded are on the SD card. Is that the correct place??
The Incredible is a great phone -- just a tad better than N1 because of the Sense UI. I had a minor problem with the phone (nothing at all major) and after a week of run-arounds with all levels of CSR's and techs; promises of a new phone overnight, etc., etc. I finally got fed up with VZW. I'm sure you've heard this all before. So, I decided to pull multi-line account and discovered that there was an AT&T N1 available. That's the short version. Received N1 yesterday and still trying to set it up. Portrait keyboard is BIG problem for me.

@ speedy: if you don't already have Astro, download it. Transfer the apk files with Astro onto the phone's memory. Now you should be able to find it in setting. We can't run apps from the SD card, but this will be address with Froyo (if the rumor is true)
Hope you enjoy your new N1 and welcome to the N1 forum.

You must be missing one of the steps. But once you DO get it installed, it functions just like the built in keyboard, except its much better. It's exactly like having the sense UI on your phone in terms of input method.
Thank you Roze and all others. Finally got it installed and yes, it brings back good memories of the keyboard.
As an aside, the 3 year old mastered the two wheeler (with training wheels) in about 5 minutes.
Again, thanks to everyone and I hope i can return the favor!

Sorry to continue being a pest. As I stated earlier got the HTC keyboard installed. Silly question -- the lower left key shows :-) rather than the "hide keyboard." What does this do -- it doesn't hide the keyboard, only enters the symbol.
Again, thanks for your help.

You can hide keyboard by pressing the back button. If you don't like the smiley option, you can dsiable it in the HTC_IME setting, go to user interface and unclick 'smiley hack' (smileys instead of hide button). Disable the keyboard and enable it again for change to take effect. Hope that helps

@ Speedy: No problem, we're all here to help one another. You just need to play around with the Sense Keyboard options, it gives you way more options and choices than the stock keyboard! lol
Want to give a public thanks to gIMpSTa who created the beautiful skins for the HTC keyboard. I created a skin but had no luck installing it. Sent him an e-mail on Sunday which, to my surprise, was promptly answered. Not only once, but we had to go back and forth several times throughout Sunday afternoon.
He is a gentleman and I want to thank him for both his patience and assistance. He deserves support from those of us on this forum.
Htc keyboard is much slicker than the stock one and easier to type on. I do get some lag though. keyboard takes a little while longer to pop up and the speak button doesnt connect to the network. anyone else having this problem?

I had the same issues with some of ther versions I downloaded. Found a good one on a Desire blog since the Desire is twin to the Nexus. Ignore the instrutions and just download the HTC keyboard: Add Full Voice to Text To Android Phones Nimbu
