Default Hot spot charges

I rarely use it, but I do find the hotspot is a nice extra when I want a larger screen. I log onto the hotspot with the password provided. Is Sprint charging me? I didn't notice a charge on my bill then I thought is it because I'm allowed a set amount of data? On my last phone Evo 3d the only way to get password was to pay...... or root of course.
