Default new nexus s headphone Jack

I got a new nexus s today but when I plug headphones, nothing happened. Is there anyway to make the phone recognize it or is it definitely a hardware problem.

Can you exchange it? That's really the best option, assuming it is an option. Otherwise, you'd have to RMA it with Samsung. They're pretty good about what they cover with their warranty, but you'd still be looking at a 3-4 week turn around time.

Funny thing, since the phone was new, it didnt have any music so i tested the headphones by increasing the ringing tone. The ringing tone rang out loud so i assumed the headphones didnt work (also because headphone icon didnt show at the notification bar). I put a song on it and used headphones and it started working. Problem solved, thanks for the replies anyway.
