I used this to root then install a custom rom (CM7 via ROM Manager) without unlocking the bootloader.

I hope you know that the warranty is still void if you do so ...and you can re-lock the bootloader when ever you wish to with the normal root [fastboot oem unlock "enter"] ...

True enough. But this was an extremely easy way to get root. Just a download then hook up your phone to your pc and then run the program. ROOTED!

I only got a few months left on the warranty anyway so no biggie.

Ok ,but you can brick your phone ...i always say that the oldest method [and the most tested] is the safest !

Yeah there is always that concern with any mod or hack, but I did my research on this before I attempted it and it all worked out well.

The only thing that doesn't seem to working great is the overclocking aspect of cm7. 1440mhz doesn't work at all, 1300mhz works a little but reboots pretty quick, 1200mhz is a little more stable but reboots often, 1100mhz works fine for everything but graphic intense games. So I have just left it at the stock speed and it works really well.

I just used this for the Nexus S. Had more trouble finding the driver than rooting.

I wasn't interested in a different ROM. Just getting rid of crap that annoyed me.

Will this method work on the ICS 4.04 Nexus? I had to update to 4.03 manually, then got 4.04 OTA, Everything is working, but I lost root. I have the paid version of TB and prefer the way it backs up. I'm still not interested in a custom ROM.

I too am wondering if there is a way to use this on ICS 4.04. I had used this to root GB 2.3.7 without unlocking and wiping the phone and just upgraded OTA to 4.04, which obviously caused me to lose root. I'd like to re-root 4.04 without wiping the phone.

Doesn't look like it does. Problem is - I bought Titanium Backup and it's still doing its thing on schedule, but I can't get at it since the update undid root.

What's the easiest way to get it back? Will have to root again, but still don't want a custom ROM, and ICS has taken care of a lot of the crap.

Still no answer for this? There was quite a bit of stuff I froze with TB. ICS freezes it, but some stuff I would like to just plain delete. I liked the control the TB had over ICS.

I've been reading over at XDA - but half of them use text shortcuts, never refer to which post they are answering, and can be rather dense to the fact that what is normal and natural for them is not the same for others.
