That's why people root and install custom rom's ! I had 2 phones - rooted - and NEVER happened to me in 2Y !
Returning to topic ...you can use "Sms backup and restore" from market ,and set it to auto-backup your messages [@ 1 day ,2 days etc.] !
As for RECOVERY ,you sadly can't !
