Default Nexus screen went black put power stayed on.

My screen suddenly went black, though power stayed on and ringer still worked. Multiple battery pulls didn't work. Took it to the Sprint store I bought it from and the guy asked if I could leave it for awhile to see what he could do with it, whiched turned out to be nothing. I ended up buying a new phone and now after the fact, lamenting the pics and videos I lost, I'm wondering if there wasn't more I could have done to save my stuff. Did I pull the trigger on buying a new phone too quick?

I think pressure on the screen causes that. Every time I've had that it's I've left it in the holster flat down and not upright like fastened to a belt and not taken the phone out.

The last episode corrupted something. The log went by too fast to see.
Mine's GSM, rooted and I was able to recover by restore, then restore all apps from Titanium backup. The phone is working as it always did.

I don't know about CDMA phones.
