Default How do I transfer my contacts from an iPhone to a Nexus One?

Hi Friends,

After two years of owning an iPhone 2G, I'm about to buy Google's Nexus One. My primary concern is having the most efficient way to transfer my 400+ contacts from my old phone to the new one. Any ideas?

Regards,

The easiest way is to convert yourself to Gmail and enjoy the smooth integration of the google cloud with android.

The GMAIL web client has a very flexable import tool. So assuming the iphone can export the contact list to some standardized format you should have no problems. Once the contacts are in GMAIL; they will automatically sync with your phone.

Regards,
Step 1
Open your iTunes software on your personal computer.

Step 2
Power on your iPhone and plug it into the computer using the USB cord that comes standard with all iPhones when purchased.

Step 3
Click on the iPhone icon in the pane on the left of the main iTunes window.

Step 4
Click on the "Info" tab, and then select "Google Contacts" from the drop-down menu that appears.

Step 5
Enter your Gmail user ID and password when prompted, and the software will export your iPhone contact into your Gmail account.

More detailed:

You can use iTunes to upload existing Contacts from your Apple device to Gmail. Only the following information can be uploaded:
  • People's names and job titles
  • Company names
  • Email and postal addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • IM names, including the type of service
  • Notes

Other information, like custom ringtones and photos, are not uploaded. Please sync them to Outlook first.

Upload Instructions
  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Open the iTunes application.
  3. Select your iPhone and click the Info tab.
  4. Check the Sync Contacts with option and select Google Contacts from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click Configure and enter your Google username and password.
  6. Press Apply to sync your device with iTunes.

Once you've checked that your contacts are available on the web, disable iTunes Contacts sync with Google. If you don't do this, you'll see duplicate contacts on your phone.

Use the SAME Google account with the Nexus One when you get it that you exported them too and it will all sync nice and easy.

One thing to note, to make life easier, create contact groups in the GMail WEB application (from a Desktop Machine). This will allow you to select which groups sync, which don't and some widgets that show contacts are easier to use when using groups.

Hope this helps!

You select what info to sync with other devices who have Bump installed, then you just bump the 2 phones together and the data syncs. You just fistbump with your phone in hand apparently

It's like this gadget I read about a year back, 'pokem' I think which shared your contact info from fb, myspace or whatever if you'd touch it to another 'pokem'. Not very practical in any case tho.
