I've been having some problems with my Nexus One's touchscreen... but only sometimes. A couple of times, when I unlock my phone to respond to a text, the keyboard will not respond to touch unless I touch above it. Going to the home screen fixes this. Also, the phone is very slow sometimes when I unlock it, causing everything to freeze up.
It's only done that twice, though... this time I just happened to capture a video of it. However, the phone has been quite slow, so maybe there's something wrong.
im not to sure since this is my first android phone but im guessing everything saves on the sd card? i dunno. maybe remove the sd card then restore? im not 100% sure

That's what I was thinking, but apps get downloaded onto the phone itself.
It seems the touchscreen has some quirkiness to it overall. Mine is unresponsive sometimes and the softkeys don't react like they are supposed to. Mine luckily hasn't done what you are showing in your video thankfully, but it is really annoying that the screen doesn't seem as precise as my 1.5 year old iphone 3g. I don't want my iphone anymore and just want this to work like it should!! I am thinking a software upgrade will fix the issues with the screen.
I had the same problem today, I was trying to press the "h" and the screen went completely crazy on me. Rebooted the phone and has been ok since. Looks like it could be a software problem.
This is a calibration problem I have seen before on the touch screens I use in work for Goss printing press's, We have to get the sparks to re-calibrate the screen's this is usally done with a software programe they use so, this is what could be happening with the phone.
I think that I figured out why my screen was going crazy sometimes. It was the way that I was holding it. It seems that my palms were barely touching the side of the screen and I guess since it doesn't have multi-touch, it would go crazy on me. I since started holding the phone flat in my hand instead of the usual gripping or cup in my hand and since I have had zero problems.
I was having this problem three to four times a day and it didnt matter how I held it or even if I left flat on table. I would just restart the phone and it would resolve for a while. Anyways, I read in another thread how someone was told by Tmobile for a different problem to do a battery pull and "keep battery out for at least 60 seconds" so I decided to try this for the screen problem. I pulled it out for a couple of minutes and placed it back in and I have now gone from yesterday morning early until tonight with no screen problems at all. Try this! I wonder if the battery has to sit perfectly or it creates this??

it has multi touch functions. trust me ive DL several apps that has MT as function and work well on the N1.
as for the screen problem ive had new one come up. when i hit home coming from the web id get a blank screen.
This happened to me as well, in a slightly different way. I was holding the phone in portrait mode, laying down, and it kept thinking I was pressing space but I was really pressing the top row of the keyboard. Strange! Eventually, it stopped and realized what I was pressing, a few moments later.
The same thing has happened to me twice. I was browsing and tried to use the zoom buttons and I had to press about an inch above the button to make it work.
I rebooted the phone and the problem was solved, but I really shouldn't have to do that. I didn't reboot my iPhone for weeks. I'm still within my trial period. I might just send the phone back, but I'll call HTC so the problem is logged. It might help wave the $45 return fee.
Talked with HTC (EVERY interaction with them has been professional and responsive- high marks). Will get replacement phone from them in a couple days.
Since a reset of phone fixes problem (temporarily) I just feel its software - I sure hope so. I do not want to return my perfect N1 (except for this touchscreen prob.)
When touchscreen calibration occurs on the phone, a temporary fix would be to do a soft reset (press power, volume down and the trackball simultaneously).
I did that and it solve the problem.

Happens ALL the time
This happens to me ALL DAY EVERYDAY... it gets quite annoying too. But to fix it temporarily, I just turn the screen off with the power button, wait a few seconds and then turn the screen back on. This seems to work... its faster than a hard or soft reboot.
