Default Exchange Contacts Sorting

I've tried searching and came up empty on this.

I have the At&t N1 and set it up with my Exchange server. The biggest issue I've run into is that the phone seems to ignore my File As setting for the contacts. Some of them are sorted as "first last" and others are "last, first", even though in Outlook they're all the same.

I've removed the account and set it back up again with the same result. Actually, after removing the account, the contacts didn't clear either, neither did the calendar.

I got the trial version of Touchdown, which eventually cleared the phone's contact list, but I could never get it to sync its contact database with the phone's. According to their FAQ there should be an option for it, but that never shows up for me.

It doesn't really matter to me if I have to use Touchdown to accomplish this or not, but if I do, then I want it to sync to my phone's database because I like the Favorites tab.

Any thoughts?

Also, while we're on the topic of Exchange, is there any way to make it sync more than 1 month of data without using a 3rd party app like Touchdown?

i recall having a similar problem with the Stock Android version. if you're sticking with Stock Android, consider Moxier Mail as well. i think i was able to correct the sort issue with Moxier, but i can't recall for sure. Moxier also allows you to copy your Exchange contacts to the phone so your contacts appear in the Stock Android phone/contact app.

i know this doesn't help, but i'm using Modaco's just released Desire ROM w/Sense UI, which includes native Exchange integration for contacts, calendar and email. by native, i mean you don't have to use a 3rd party app for exchange. don't know if the Desire ROM took care of the sort issues, but everything is sorting ok.

on the >30 email front, Moxier might be able to do this, i can't recall for sure. they have a manual on their website that may help answer some of your questions. on the Desire ROM the only option beyond 30 days, is "sync all email".

by the way, are you a former/current WinMo user? your username seems familiar to me.

Yeah, I'm an admin at PPCGeeks and a mod at XDA

I've had the Treo 700wx, Sprint Touch, At&t Tilt, At&t Fuze, and now the N1.

EDIT: For now I want to stay stock in case something goes wrong and I have to exchange the phone. Maybe after a few weeks I'll unlock it and flash other ROMs. I just don't know why it only affects a few of my contacts, its so random.
