I am a complete noob/new member, who got his NC for Christmas. I have been reading Android Forums and other places over the past two weeks, and have a few questions to ask, seeking some guidance. Before the questions, you should know that with much help I have been able to set up my NC (1.4.1) to dual boot (thanks xda-developers.com) into (1) ManualNooter 5.12.20 (thanks Bobstro and Colchiro) and (2) CM7.1.0 off of a 32gb Lexmark SD card (thanks Ana Mardoll). I know that booting from an SD card is notoriously unstable (thanks again Colchiro), so no need to point that out. Everything seems stable so far, although it has only been a couple of days since I successfully set up my NC this way.
My questions are these:
1. Is there a step-by-step guide, or can anyone walk me through the process to disable OTA on the NC when booting into ManualNooter? I don't want B&N to upset my applecart with forced updates.
2. I'm interested in tweaking the most speed out of each booted system, ManualNooter and CM7.1.0. Thus, am I correct that CM7.1.0 is already set up with the most recent overclock kernel for NC 1.3 (or 1.4.1 for that matter)? If not, can anyone point me to a more recent kernel, and how to put it onto my SD card? And, is there any step-by-step guide for overclocking ManualNooter 5.12.20? Do these questions even make sense? If not, please educate me (I am not a proud person, so you can be brutal if you like).
Thanks for the help in advance, and please pardon my ignorance if my questions don't make sense.

1. I think there's a prop.build edit to prevent updating, but I don't recall more or where I saw it.
2. To OC Cm7, go to settings... cyangenmod settings... cpu and bump up the max speed to 1200, check the box to set on boot and you're done. I'd leave the governor as-is. Don't change it to performance, b/c your min and max speeds will be 1200, which means you stand a chance you'll burn it up. No kernel to change with 7.1 stable. Anything you'd find would be for older versions and will just break it.
OK, so I got my NC rooted, when I boot up I go to the screen (Zeam Launcher) that lets me get to the apps, including Market.
But... once I click something like Settings, or Nook Home, there is no way back to this screen. Very frustrating... I have to do a hard shut down to get there.

The "n" button is usually a home button in most launchers and should get you back.
You should have button savior or a similar app to get you back, menu, home keys. Otherwise you can find it in Market and install it.
I love the MIUI rom, but it doesn't have these buttons (tablet tweaks) and having to install an app to get them is not good enough in my book. So I stick with CM7, which looks like this:
Thank you! So when I d/l an app from Market and it says "will be downloaded", any idea when or where I can see when it really was downloaded? As of a few hours, no new apps are showing.

I DL most of my apps by logging into https://market.android.com/ from my computer (much easier on a big screen with a full-size keyboard) and a few minutes later I see they have been installed in the status bar (assuming my android device is turned on). If that doesn't work, then you have more than one device and you picked the wrong one.
OTOH, if I install an app directly from Market on the device, it's installed now, shows in the status bar and in the list of all apps.
If neither of those work for you, there's a problem with Market.
