Default Help! Stuck in a reset loop!

Ok, I've gone from bad to worse. I was having trouble installing apps from the amazon appstore so was trying to find some settings when all of a sudden it said something about an "authorization error" and reset. When it came back up, it was resetting data and I had to go through all the setup again. When I get to the point where I set up my account, I get the message "Sorry, we're having touble setting up your NOOK. Please shutdown sthe device and try again". Every time I reset it goes back to the same thing. What can I do to fix it?

Find your Market and clear data/uninstall updates, then try it again.

If that doesn't work, boot into recovery and format data. You'll have to reinstall apps, but it sounds like you might be there already.

I can't get far enough to get to the market...it resets again after booting up.

How do I get into recovery mode? Is that like my phone where I hold in the volume buttons and power it on?

Were you by any chance checking out the settings through AnyCut? If you create a shortcut to the 2nd "settings" option, when you launch that shortcut, the unit will spontaneously self-destruct, sort of like a Mission Impossible film. Be careful, it will wipe your SD card too. I managed to do this to myself TWICE. I think what's happening is that it triggers a remote-wipe function.

If this is what happened, let me know. I've added warnings to the 1.4.1 rooting guide.

As to why you can't re-register: I've not had that happen. Usually, after a wipe, you're back to square 1 but can move on. Did you abort the wipe? You might try the 8 failed boot factory reset to get to a happy place. You should not need to re-flash anything. That should put you back to stock (sorry) with whatever version of firmware your NC was last flashed with.

Sorry, I've not had time to mess with it in ages, and since my boot card still works and my son can use it as an Android tablet I it hasn't been a priority. I hope to get back to it today or tomorrow (which is why I finally revisiting this thread), but to answer your questions.

I don't recall if I was using AnyCut or not (or even exactly what that is) as it's been so long since I looked at it.

No, I didn't abort the wipe...just sat there nice an patient while re-booted.

Will my root and market \ appstore still be there? If so, I'd be happy. Worst case I guess I try to get it back to stock and then root again....hopefully I'll get to that in the next couple of days.

Market apps are stored online so they will re-download. You will lose root and your settings tho. Sounds like you don't use the stock rom, do you REALLY need it? There is a way to copy your sdcard rom to your NC, I just have never done it or have a link to check out.

That never worked for me either.

I doubt it's a hardware issue. Is it still under warranty? If you altered the stock rom (rooted it), which it sounds like you have done, you may have voided that.

I don't really NEED it. This is actually my son's nook. We got it mostly to use as an Android tablet, but I was hoping to use the read to me feature of the nook. Other than that I'd be okay with just the tablet.

There's the bootable sdcard method using the back to stock rom above or you can wait for someone (koop or bobstro), that might know more about copying your sdcard rom to the NC it'self.

Yeah, I found a site on using the bootable SD card to restore it and am working through that now. Hopefully that will fix it for me, and if no I did get the extended warranty so I may just end up calling support on it. Nice things is everything we've done so far is on my CM7 boot card, so I can pop that into any new nook I may get and be right where I am now.

No telling how out of date your link, I'd recommend ours: [Guide] Back to B&N Stock 1.4.1 or upgrade stock to 1.4.1

... as for your warranty, if you alter your NC by rooting it, I bet you voided that, at least as far as it not working as intended.
