Mad looking for Adam or any Pixel Qi Android

Greetings, love your forum, like a lot of you I am waiting for a fast, lite weight Android tablet 10" or larger with the Pixel Qi screen that can free me from laptops. I would love a tablet capable of HD streaming video and all the things Notion Ink promised with the Adam months ago...for my eyes, a larger 12" screen would be better, but 10.2 would be ok, if it is as crisp as the Pixel Qi

Why this launch is dragging anchor, why hasn't ANY other company in China come out with a Pixel Qi tablet, is it because these same companies want to shed a ton of old LED & LCD inventory?

All we can do is speculate on why Pixel Qi hasn't been widely adopted - yet.

I believe you'll find the Adam is shipping soon - as for e-ink catching on - rumors abound, including HTC entering the tablet field and (this is no rumor) they recently put out calls for engineers with display and e-ink experience to join their US development team.

I agree with you - Android tablets are the answer and 2011 is going to be a bumper year for them.

Welcome to the forums!

Two comments on this thread:

1. The Adam - They will formally announce on Jan 6th and from there hopefully plans will be clearer. They will probably go through another round of preorders and I would guess commercial shipments will start in March or April. Just a guess. But this thing is coming soon and looks worth the wait.

2. Pixel Qi. I am no longer sure I want pixel Qi. It sounded awesome and the answer to all my prayers before. But now I am not sure. From what I have been reading of the hints from Rohan, the pixel qi LCD performance is not as sharp and vivid as a pure LCD, which they also offer as a cheaper alternative. Pixel Qi sounds perfect if you are planning to use your device outside a fair amount, the trade off for LCD sharpness should be worth it. But for me, to be honest, I will probably use this thing in doors over 95% of the time. For the few times I try to use this outside, is it worth having a less sharp LCS experience? I really wish I could see one of these in a store before buying but it does not look like that will be an option if I want one before June.

As for HTC - I have the droid incredible phone and think it is just awesome. I will give any tablet they come out with a fair look before deciding on the Adam or anything else as they have proven they know how to make a device. They will are expected to announce on Jan 6th their plans and I for one can't wait.

I don't think the third mode of the Pixel Qi screen (transflective LCD) is the big draw. It's the second mode, e-ink. With the e-ink mode you have a tablet in lcd mode and a kindle in e-ink mode.

When you want to read a book, you don't need another device, nor should you need to worry about your battery (in theory, we need to see this in practice on the Adam).

But if you are reading a book in doors - you can do this just fine on a full color LCD screen, no eInk.

Is there some in doors benefit to having Pixel QI?

E-ink is very nice indoors for many things and has significantly better battery life.

gamul1. If you get a chance, check out a kindle. I bought one for my mother in law for Xmas. The screen is wonderful to read (though small) and they claim the battery lasts for a month.

Not to mention that distributors will also fall in line (from what I read in his blogs), so I believe one would be able to see it on hand and get a feel if it is the one to get.

I did not get that feeling from reading the blogs. But since I do take my current HP Pavillion 2500ts tablet/laptop outside, anything Pixel Qi would be a blessing.

Something tells me that HTC will produce a tablet by June and as luck would have it, thats around the same time that the EVO 4G replacement would be out. I wouldn't doubt it if HTC does both a EVO 2 and a EVO Tab.

EarlyMon mention that HTC is looking into special displays like Pixel Qi so a HTC Tab with that sort of display would be a hit.

Even if I get the Adam with pixel qi - I am planning ot check out the Kindle. I have been "purchasing" kindle books for a while now, mostly free ones, in anticipation of reading on a larger device.

If you do not already, check out the Kindle stores free limited time book list. Its not uncommon for a new book to show up free there for a week or two. You do have to sort through a bunch of "stuff", like text books or soft porn for women, but about half of the 150 or so free books are otherwise interesting. I go through it about once or twice a week to see if anything new popped up.

For either device, check out Project Gutenberg, easily accessed by Android Aldiko, side load to Kindle.

I take it you know there's an Android Kindle app, but want one anyway.

If I had 100% confidence that Market, and Market apps would work on an android tablet I would not consider it. I am not sure I will get one at this point, its only a consideration.

I would actually prefer NOT to get a second device. I am partly considering it because it would be part of a bonus package from my work and I was not sure what to do with the last $190 of the bonus and where I was not sure about book reading on a tablet yet, I thought it was worth considering.

Actually, after I posted that - Amazon announced that they're coming out with an Android Kindle app designed specifically for the new tablets' larger screens.

I book read on my 4.3" Evo and love it - can't wait to find the right tablet myself, almost a certainty it'll be the Adam - or something with Pixel Qi or Mirasol display. I'm very impressed by the Kindle but want it all in one device.

PS - Agree - shop for a tablet with a full Market on it, the cheaper ones seem to lack that.

Well - that pretty much nixes any plans for a kindle itself. Now - what toy to get for about $200......?

Thanks!

I also do the evo as my book reader now. I got a B&N Nook a year ago and love it, but I love the Evo more, since all my email and texts arrive on it while I am reading. The Evo screen is also somewhat useable in sunlight. Not great, but it works. The only time I use my Nook now, is when I am at a beach resort, reading on the beach or by the pool.

Tip for all of you that want to read in a pool or hot tub: Get zip lock bags that fit the phone or reader. You can totally touch through the bag and at night, you don't even know the bag is between you and the display. Saves me all the time, when I fall asleep in the hot tub and drop my evo in the water.
