Default Guide to using Mobile Odin

How to use Mobile Odin

Step 1 is acquiring it, you can do this one of two ways. by grabbing the free version here or buying it for 5 bucks on the play store. If you use teh free version youll also need to install another addon apk, the one we want is found here you need the R530-v2.0 one

so youve got it installed? great load it up and scroll down to the file you want to flash (in this guide ill be showing you how to flash a full tar) so go down to that one.

click on open file and select the tar you wish to flash. it will then prompt you that it has filled the slots for you. go and tap on recovery and data and clear them.

Some people have had their sdcards wiped by wiping data, use at your own risk

From there scroll down and choose wipe data and dalvik (this will not wipe your internal sdcard), and wipe cache as well. from here you need to select your extra options:

everroot injects root into teh flashing file so that you get root from the get go. injecting supersu and mobile odin allows you to have tools should you need them as soon as you boot

Now all thats left is to click flash (it will prompt to do md5 sum checking, im lazy and never bother to, YMMV) it will boot into a special recovery mode and flash everything

The only difference between the two is the extra file to download and install. Read the instructions for the extra file. It is known. Lol

pro version lets you keep root and injects itself into the tar so when u flash you will still have root and mobile odin installed

Since the wipe data and cache option is greyed out, what can we do? Just flash anyway and hope it doesnt cause force closes from not wiping data? Also what method do we use to reroot? Thanks

Yes. Yes.

Edit: to be more clear. Yes you can make a backup in twrp. Yes you can restore any other backups you have, including older touchwiz.

It also wiped my internal. But I was prepared for that. I moved everything important to my external.

I did not check Wipe Data and cache. Is this correct?
I followed the screenshot. My SD and extSD intact. Nothing missing.

So using Mobile Odin method will allow me to restore backups through TWRP?
Should I do the NV Backup again now that Im on 4.1.2.

restoring blackbean's data will likely cause you to bootloop, as for metropolis i dont think its a good idea but you may be able to get away with restoring teh data

you are on 4.1.2
you flash rom XY
decide to come back to 4.1.2 so you restore a backup of it?
or you want to leave 4.1.2 so you restore a backup of rom XY?

ok, so a tar file is the full thing straight up as is. a zip compresses the full thing into a file easier to keep?

Yea the tar is just a shell holding all the stuff inside while zip is made not only to hold all the data inside but also compress it.

more than just that as well, inside teh tar is the IMG file which is a direct vtye for btye copy of the entire system partition. meanwhile metropolis 1.1.0 and ldrifta's rom are just teh files and compressed so they can be smaller

i flashed lj1, but after i flashed the lj1 i rooted, installed twrp recovery and restored my old backup of stock rooted touchwiz i had. so can i install this tar and go back to that backup from ics made with twrp?

oo and btw i also flashed an aokp rom and got a '0' folder and went back to the stock backup i had and the zero folder remained until i moved the files out of it and deleted the 0 folder, i dont know if that will make a difference in anything but i thought i'd let you know, just in case.
