Default [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

**Please make sure you read the instructions properly!! People are replying to this post saying the problems they're having when the answer is that they didn't read the post properly. If you are having problems, then refer back to the instructions and make sure you followed the steps EXACTLY as they're written. Thanks! **

The latest version of SwiftDroid available is v2.0 ASIS.

Everything in this ROM works except for:
  • DivX/xVid codecs
  • Screen Calibration

Changelog:

When playing music, long press camera button play/pause.
Long press the volume buttons, next/previous track.
Settings CyanogenMod -> Performance -> Settings CPU - Built-in overclocking

Make sure you follow the instructions exactly as they're written. As always, with flashing your phone, there's always the risk of bricking your phone. I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone because of flashing custom firmware. But I will do my best to try and help you with any problems you might encounter

To install this ROM you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. If you have Android 1.6/2.1 installed from LG, then fastboot is not enabled, if you have Android 2.2/CyanogenMod6 installed from my previous post then you have fastboot enabled so put your phone in fastboot mode (hold Camera on power up) when needed. I will explain how to enable fastboot on your phone (this involves re-flashing/replacing your currently installed firmware):

KDZ Updater CarphoneWarehouse Unlocked.zip - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Carphone Warehouse Unlocked)

KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Europe Open)

Download either version, it doesn’t make a difference, you’re going to be replacing 2.1 with 2.3 anyway

Now, how to flash these versions; I'll explain in detail how to flash the ROM's from starting with backing up.

Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:

Updating from older versions of CyanogenMod 7:

How to install via recovery:

Installing CyanogenMod automatically

That's it! You're done! Easy right? Enjoy the latest version of Android!

Nice post well done.
Is Navitel not the stock Navigation app on the phone?
Quick question though, having already got 2.2 running and having backed up 2.1 and 2.2 using clockwork 2, will installing clockwork 3 cause any problems? Dont you access 2 and 3 the same way ie holding down the home button and powering up?

4. Your phone will now reboot with CyanogenMod 6.1.1 (Android 2.2.1). The first boot might take longer than a normal boot.

Should the above read ?

4. Your phone will now reboot with CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3.2). The first boot might take longer than a normal boot.

I think because the ROM is pre installed with Russian and there is the 'Navigation' app that comes with Maps I think thats why it said navitel. :P

Clockwork 3 is just an updated version of the recovery, you still get to it by holding the home button on power up

Ah yes sorry, I copied from my other post to save time i'll fix that :P

Ok so there should be no issues/conflicts with installing clockwork 3 when clockwork 2 is installed?
Can you confirm that the navigation app works on this, plus i have read that there are issues with the market and screen rotation.
Some extra info here.. LG GT540 2.3 SwiftDroid CM7 Project Mur4ik and clean 2.3.1 - xda-developers

Cool, I've just seen the update, and I've updated the first post with the new update, the changelog has also been added in the 1st post. To update without loosing any apps, make a backup of your phone through recovery, and update your phone, then when you have finished updating, go back into Clockwork Recovery and select Backup&Restore>Advanced Backup>Data then that will restore all your data (contacts, messages, apps etc.)

I've found that the performance is definitely better than 2.1 and maybe a bit better than 2.2

Nope, I had no problems installing Clockwork Recovery 3 The Navigation app works, I in putted a destination and it got a GPS lock very quickly, in about 8 seconds! The app spoke to me telling me where to go, but I haven't had the chance to follow the route but I'm sure it works perfectly fine. As for the Market, I've had no problems with it other than when I installed the v1.3 update, no Google apps came preinstalled, so I had to install the zip in my first post which installed the Google apps. There's nothing wrong with the screen rotation either

Cool, your asking the differences between Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and Android 2.2 (Froyo)? Google it, you'll be very pleased with the results

that is a bug and it is fixed
Fix the camera:
copy the file copybit.swift.so in system / lib / hw / copybit.swift.so

Give him the same rights as all the files there.

here's the link

Think its worth waiting a week or so until these minor problems are sorted out, as some are also saying that they cannt access the usb connection, only for charging no mass storage, after applying the apps zip.

Hmm, seems to be fine for me, I've applied the apps .zip and USB mass storage still works. You can download SAMBA File Sharing from the market which shares your SD Card over your Wi-Fi network so you can access it without wires

Adb is an android debug bridge, not sure about one for mounting a mrmory card though have you made sure its not the memory card its self :s

this is taken from the cyanogenmod 6.1 thread:

1. If the flash drive, for whatever reason, does not mount, then through the ADB, give the command: "mount-t vfat-o utf8, umask = 000, rw / dev/block/mmcblk0p1 / sdcard" and then "Settings / Memory / SD-Connect card .

....

i just dont know where to put that command in cuz i dont know what ADB is... and yes, i know for sure that my sd card isnt dead, i can access it directly on my comp with a card reader.

Slightly pointless but interesting post:
I just found this by messing with it:

I kept pressing on "Version" and this popped up!
I was amused so i took a picture of it

Also:
I'm having troubles with Swapper.. I cant seem to get it working, it creates the 600mb swap file, but in setcpu it doesn't show it. it shows 0kb.
Also where can i get swapper? the one im using is from the market..
one doesnt allow up to 600mb and one says its only for 1.6 and below :/

Default Fix camer helppp meeee

Hello guys. I can not install copybit.swift.so ..... The steps I do are: Connect the phone to my pc then put the file in the sd, then unplug the phone, then when I click on the file in ASTRO tells me "Application not available". And when I try to move the files to the / system / lib / hw memory of the phone tells me "Impossible to move the file ".... What should I do??

You dont install it! You move it too "/system/lib/hw"
If you are using root explorer to move the file, press the "Mount R/W" button on the top, move copybit.swift.so into the folder, then make the permission changes then press "Mount R/O" button.
That should do it

ADB is included in the Flashing CyanogenMod7.zip folder, just go to cmd and again type
Code:
cd C:\Android
then type
Code:
adb mount-t vfat-o utf8, umask = 000, rw/dev/block/mmcblk0p1/sdcard

Can you switch on the phone and go back into 1.6? If so, try the process again

If not, then put the phone into emergency mode and connect it to the computer, then in the KDZ updater change 'PhoneMode' to 'CS_EMERGENCY' and try to flash again.

Thumbs up

At last a better stable custom ROM for GT540 has finally landed (not 100% stable though). Anyways, another of your nice tutorials. Thanks!
Also I'd already told you a month ago that they were porting 2.3 to GT540 and now they did. Feeling bad that OpenSwift ain't progressing but a lot better news that we are enjoying Gingerbread now. Thanks again!

Yepp, its not 100% stable but it's almost there, I'm sure it'll get sorted out soon! Np!
Yeahh, there wasn't much going for it then, but now that the ROM is almost perfect, I thought that I should share it with everyone
