if you have android version 2.2.1 you can use the gingerbreak one click.
If you have 2.2.2 then you need to downgrade, use lgnpst
I put this out for someone to make a guide with but they didnt have enough knowledge of the way it worked to make a working guide
ok, I will give you a couple of the basics, and some pictures you can repost.
Use the update prl tutorial for links and what ever to get everything needed ok. that is located Tutorial: Manual update 3020 prl
ok after they have and install LGNPST they will be greated with
Then they need to open the bin the little folder icon and chose the downloaded bin file. looks like
When they get it selected it looks like
Then they need to select the prl, if they want if they dont they will keep the prl they have. but this will be a way to get on the newest one and possibly get some 3g speed.
Then after all that they will see
Now just press start, and do not unplug until the process is at 100%.
Also warn them to have a battery that has 40% or more of a charge, makes things less likely to go wrong.

if your phone was not recognized you dont have the drivers installed, just go to lg website and download them.

im curious.. i seem to remember reading somewhere that fastboot overrides root permissions.. would it be possible to put ur phone in bootloader mode and use fastboot to flash a recovery image to ur phone and just wipe and flash a rom that way?

back+vol down and power.. gotta hold it for like 30 seconds or more to be safe but it will get stuck at the lg screen and go into bootloader mode. but from someone elses experience, when u brick ur phone and its stuck on lg screen.. if u plug into ur computer it will say that its a fstboot device in the device manager.. i dialed into some dudes computer through remote assistance in win7 and unbricked playnex's phone that way

It is a, computer with a phone built into it really. Right?
First off, I want to thank all of you whom have this wonderful ability to learn how to get into these devices. Without this thread, I would still be stuck in "user" land. (eeew).
Thots: I have found that the 2.2.1 OS is flawed with a sneaky issue of sending your text messages to some random email recipient. I have yet to locate the exact how and who, or have had this actually happen, to my knowledge. This singular issue, IMO, is an urgent reason to update to 2.2.2. So I am in wait for this to be root-able. (=
I was shocked to find that these phones work very much like the Moto v220 that I had flashed way back in the day. Anywho, good jobs! I impatiently await (just kidding).
I've been hunting for two straight days, and since I see a lapse of time from the last thread, is there still no option for 2.2.2 rather than downgrading first?
There have been several reports of gingerbreak working. All you can do is look for the latest copy and try it, maybe try rebooting after install, it don't work for every 2.2.2
Don't delete talk. It is somehow linked to the market, and you won't be able to download anything without it. Latitude is required for Google Maps.
Not sure if you know or not, but believe it or not, Think Free is actually useful. I use it to install .APK files stored on my SD card. It's a
awesome for that, and easy to use. I don't do much else with it though.

you absolutely need to downgrade first n if u not comfortable with the process, read read, read.
like the whole thing add ALL drivers(windowz)
n double check that everything is working— you dontwana jack ur fon up.
n to b blunt n honest, if u hadnt read that 2.2.2 cant b rooted(yet) then u gonna have a tuff time...

Rooting 2.2.2 or extracting current firmware
Hi all!
My goal is to help push forward and get 2.2.2 rooted on this model (or get 2.3.x running. That'd be neat.) I also wish to locate a way to extract the current firmware "bin" that is on the phone. LG >> PC. I will be getting a brand new LGMS690 this week, and am willing to do what I can to help. I was successful with my previous phone, RIP, in flashing, rooting and modding, etc. I have been unable to locate any post pointing to these tasks. Please PM me or reply here with information leading to those that are involved with these tasks. Thank you for your time.

This just in! 2.2.2 rooted via SuperOneclick!
I was skeptical at first, seeing as our phones were not listed as compatible. I found a post concerning the Optimus V (almost same hardware, different carrier) being rooted running 2.2.2 (MS690ZV6). Everything pointed to this "SuperOneClick", so I tried it. At last, the hunt it over!! Please search for SuperOneClick in google, and get to the shortfuse org site. Once there, grab version 2.2 or newer, and do what you do best. The instructions prior to this are on androidforums "Optimus M - All things root" under the "2.2.1 get data working" thread (only follow the points about installing the drivers, software, and SDKs.). DO NOT flash the phone if you have HW ver. 1.1 until someone has the MS690ZV6 bin file in the wild. Good luck!!
