I downloaded the LGNPST and followed the other steps, but cant get past the "locate the LGNTPS.exe file", can someone help, thank you. Or is there another/easier way to do this.
Well after the success of a couple of people that currently rooted their stock 2.2.1 phone with this files, I decided to make a thread so that everyone can do it.
Then go here and Download LGNPST
Open the file and extract these files to your desktop LGNTPS_Components_Ver_5_0_12_0.msi
LGNTPS_General_v1.2_Lab_Version.msi
LGNTPS_Generic_Models_ver_5_0_10_0.msi
Also extract LGNTPST.exe and the Model and the cdaworkshop folders.
Run LGNTPS_General_v1.2_Lab_Version.msi file, let it install if ask for reboot do it. Then run LGNTPS_Components_Ver_5_0_12_0.msi and let it install if ask for reboot do it. Then Run LGNTPS_Generic_Models_ver_5_0_10_0.msi let it install if ask for reboot do it.
After all these files install, locate the LGNTPS.exe file on your desktop and copy it to: C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST. Make a shortcut to the desktop because it`s required to run the program. Also copy the Model folder on your desktop to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST as well. Go to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Model and delete all the files except for MS690.dll, MS690ZV3_36.scr, Reggie.exe and Setup.exe. Then drag the MS690.dll file on top of the Reggie.exe file to register the MS690.dll file.
After all of the above download this file MS690ZV4-root.zipand extract it to your C:\ drive. (On your C:\ should be the following files: 3017nam1.prl, busybox, MS690ZV4-root.bin, su and Superuser.apk)
Run LGNTPS from your desktop shortcut. Make sure the program is set to Provision option and under Provision should be Upgrade. Where it says bin File click on the folder and look for MS690ZV4.bin that should be on your C:\ drive and select it. Check the box where says SCR file and select the MS690ZV3_36.scr on C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Model. Check the PRL File box and select the 3017nam1.prl on you C:\ drive.
After that is done click start, the program needs the SPC code. So open cdaworkshop on your destop and open cdma workshop.exe. After the programs load select your COM port where the cellphone is connected (It is shown on the right side of LGNTPS on the phone info tab) then click connect. Go to the security tab and where it says SPC scroll down and select the LG method. Click read and write down the your SPC code, then type it in LGNTPS and the process of updating your phone should begin. When the process is at 43% the cell phone restart DON`T do anything to your phone (don`t even touch it until it reachs 100%). After it reachs 100% the phone should be on the lock screen without service.
To get service back and root you need to download adb. Go to Android SDK | Android Developers and download the file that ends on .zip. Extract it to your C:\ drive. Go to C:\android-sdk-windows and open sdkmanager.exe. After is open a windows will pop out click reject on all files except for:
Android SDK Tools and Android SDK Platform tools. Make sure USB debugging is activated (On your phone go to settings> applications>development and check USB debugging) Then open up Cmd and type the following: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools.
After that type: adb push C:\su /data/local/tmp/ (to copy the su file)
then type: adb push C:\busybox /data/local/tmp/ (to copy the busybox file)
Then type: adb install C:\Superuser.apk (to install the superuser app)
Reboot your phone and check if you got service. To install new Recovery Menu for 2.2. phones and get service back go to this thread Then install a program from market called anreboot. Install the app and open it up, then select reboot system. If everything went alright your phone will restart and it will have service and will be rooted.
To verify root go to market download terminal emulator from Jack Pal. Then open it up and type su, if you get # you are successfully root.
If you want to install the first custom rom for 2.2.1 stock phones follow this guide to do it. To install this rom follow this steps:
First download it and copy it to Android images (This is a folder for easier access on the sdcard, If you don`t have it you will have to create it)
Then reboot to recovery and select wipe option, then select wipe all userdata (You will have to erase everything from your phone to avoid errors.)
After that go back and select flash zip menu, then select toggle Signature Verify.
Next choose Flash zip from sdcard, navigate to Android Images folder and select
the downloaded image with .zip ending.
Click on menu to confirm and let it do it`s job. It will take a while to finish.
After it`s done go back and select reboot system now.
You will have the first custom rom and a rooted 2.2.1 stock phone.
Hope this guide help guys
Its been like 25 min and its still at 0%. how long does it take for it to upgrade?
Sorry if this offtopic.. But how do yo got the MS690.dll ?? I´m looking for the dll for the Optimus V.. if both phones use the same modem driver, i guess someone skilled with DLL´s can modify the MS690 for the VM670.. or I´m nuts ?

I'm not really sure why you are following this guide. This is extremely outdated. There is now a 1-click root method for 2.2.1.

Guys, please stop with the spam about other root guides. we get it. But we're on this one for a reason. I used this one, thanks joneidy!, and my phone is working good. I tried the gingerbreak before this one, major fail, superone click, fail too. LGNPST not working (for all of those above) Just re start from the step on downloading them, just make sure to uninstall it, then redownload to the file you choose. And look at the files in that folder. Hope this helped!

Thanks Joneidy I tried to root my Lg Optimus using the z4root, gingerbreak, and one click method all to no avail I was running 2.2.2 after I had updated my phone using the Lg mobile software and none of the above methods worked. After downgrading using the very easy guide (btw) i'm now rooted and very happy to have gotten rid of all that bad bloatware from metropcs. This method works for downgrading just follow the directions to the letter and everything will be fine. Again many thanks

I'm trying to downgrade to 2.2.1 from 2.2.2. I'm stuck on step one. When I click on this link I don't see anything that concerns any type of drivers. I don't know where to find it to install. Can some one please help me
Hey I have ms690 and thats exactly what happened to it, what you said in the post. Cant get past the LG logo, been trying to fix it for 3 days now, just all day searching for answers. I tried your method, but theres multiple errors that always mess me up. First one is when I try to install LGNTPS_Components_Ver_5_0_12_0.msi...it says error 1721, but than I can get past that by first installing the Generic Model Ver, and than I get another error at "drag the MS690.dll file on top of the Reggie.exe file to register the MS690.dll file." it says "HRESULT 0x080020009 Exception Occured" and than after that it just doesnt work, I open the application, but I cant do anything on it. It doesnt recognize my phone at all, and at first I taught somethings wrong with the computer, so i tried everything on the other computer and I got the exact same errors. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASEEEE HELP ME???

Two things come to mind when I read that, first you need admin rights on your computer, turn off UAC and the second thing is your antivirus is most likely blocking everything. you may have to turn it off, disable, uninstall it until you get it working.
If you google QPST, QXDM, and LGNPST seperatley you will find downloads for all 3 individually. I don't know what else in CDMA workshop is relevant to our phones?
The upgrade failed and I am stuck at S/W UpgradeDo Not Unplug. How do I fix this?
I am using a virtualbox running windows xp on ubuntu.
LGPNST is on Emergency Mode. I'm really worried.

blaxican25 I cant complete the process as it fails at 17 percent. And once it fails it changes to Emergency mode. And my phone stays stuck at S/W upgrade.
**Then drag the MS690.dll file on top of the Reggie.exe file to register the MS690.dll file.**<---- Very Important step, Make sure to have Administrator Rights.
Hello, I just got an Optimus M by Metro and I'm very new to all of this. After doing much research, I finally found out that I can't root the Optimus because its running on Android 2.2.2 so I have to downgrade to 2.2.1.
I know this is pretty lame but I got stuck early on in your list of directions. I'm having trouble getting "Administrator Rights". Anyone know how I can do this?
Whenever I drag the MS690.dll file on top of the Reggie.exe file, I'm asked if I want to run the software. I click run and then something pops up saying:
HRSULT==0x80020003
Exception occurred.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!
With many hours put into this, I finally downgraded to 2.2.1!
Problem:
Then open up Cmd and type the following: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools.
After that type: adb push C:\su /data/local/tmp/ (to copy the su file)
then type: adb push C:\busybox /data/local/tmp/ (to copy the busybox file)
Then type: adb install C:\Superuser.apk (to install the superuser app)
I have done this several times but it keeps saying "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect" for each one I enter.
I have tried uninstalling the Android SDK Tools and Platform Tools and then reinstalling but keep running into this same problem. Any ideas? I also still have no service on my phone :/
