Thumbs up Unbrick Phone from LG Screen

So many users have been using Rom Manager and are getting stuck at the Lg Logo. Well now there`s a way to unbrick your phone and avoid the need of a replacement.

To get your phone to be recognized by the PC; take your battery out. With the battery out press and hold this combination of keys: Back key + Camera. With the keys hold down plug in your charger to the phone. (AC connected to the wall or connected to USB) Your phone should boot to S/W Upgrade mode. Now the battery can be placed back again. If you got to S/W Upgrade mode by the AC charger method now its time to connect phone to the PC.

Now make sure that LGNPST and drivers are installed on your pc correctly. (Go here if you need to install LGNPST and drivers. Follow the guide until where you need to open LGNPST.

Then Open up LGNPST and make sure that the program recognizes the phone. It should be under the EMERGENCY tab. (Dont worry if is says UNKNOWN under Model).

Now Select the dll file. The file name is MS690.dll where it says dll.
Then Download this file extract the folders somewhere on your PC. While on LGNPST navigate to the extracted Bin folder and select it as the .bin file. The file name should be MS690ZV7_08.bin

Then click start. Let the process get to 100%

Now your phone will try to start up but the battery will blink or charge. If it`s blinking all you have to do is: plug it to the wall let it charge a little bit, then turn it on. If it charges then let it charge a little and then turn it on.

Your phone will be back to stock mode to 2.2.2. And also unbricked.

Hope this helps.

PS Thanks to sammyz for the 2.2.2 link.

Unfortunately, the admins have limited us to strictly 5 stickies per forum so I can't sticky this without taking down another one. I'll put this in the "How to" guide sticky that contains a bunch of important threads

Default Bricked Phone Cannot Select dll

Hi,
I am new to this forum, and really hope someone can help.
My son has bricked his phone trying to root it and has given up trying to fix it.
It's now on my computer table.
He has a new baby and really needs a phone.
I followed your post and actually have gotten further than I had been able to with any other postings I've tried to follow.
It all goes well until I try to attach the DLL file. Nothing shows in the list and it doesn't seem to have a way that I can find to attach it.

I downloaded the drivers and it said they loaded properly.
The dll stated it registers.
The bin allows selection and attaches properly.
The phone shows as an unknown model/port connected.

Do you have any idea what I maybe doing wrong with the dll?
I've never tried to work on phones before so I'm quite lost.
It is a metroPCS lgms690 Optimus M.
I would appreciate any advice.

This is a shot in the dark, but when you bring the window up to choose the .dll, for the file type drop-down near where you would type in a file name, under the box where you can see a file listing, drop that down and choose all files if you can.

Default Bricked phone...need help!

I'm not quite sure how I bricked my phone...I was in the process of doing a recovery on my phone but somehow after the rebooting step the phone gets stuck at the LG logo and then goes into a black screen.

I've followed joneidy's thread about unbricking it, but I get stuck at S/W Upgrade mode when I try to switch it to my PC. It shuts off when I switch my cable so I can't even connect it to my PC before then. Please, any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hey guys I've also bricked my phone from trying to reboot after doing a recovery image...

My phone gets stuck at the black screen after the LG logo but my main issue with this tutorial is that when I switch over to connect to my PC after S/W Upgrade Mode it dies before I can even connect to my PC. What should I do? Thank you!

once the phone dies completely, have someone hold a button or 2 for you, since its a nightmare holding all the buttons down...once all the buttons are held down, plug it straight into a wall charger.then let it charge for a minute, then disconnect from charger and right away, plug into your pc.hopefully this helps.

Problem. I get to the S/W Upgrade screen on the initial plug in. I let it charge for a second. Then it goes back to the LG screen. Any ideas?

Ok. Actually now everything is working except the ms690.dll part. all i have in my list is blah blah\components 5.0\LGNPST_Utility5.dll

UPDATE:

Definitely need to include that dragging ms690.dll on to reggie is how to make that register. that was a fancy move!

Sorry for being obnoxious on the thread.

Your method sucessfully unbricked my phone. Thank you

But now I have a new problem. I have no service. It's not connecting to Metro PCS anymore (roaming works) I tried calling metropcs to "reprogram" my phone, but the Service Code they provided gave an error "wrong code" they had no idea why, and couldn't help me..

EDIT: Joneidy told me to try using all zero's for the service code and it seems to be working.

"programmed" phone successfully, but still no service.

Hold on. Hold on. Joneidy. Did you have to purposely brick your optimus to do this?

Hahaha yeah I had to. But basically I didn't. I bricked my first Optimus a while ago and one day messing around with key combinations I found this trick. And so far its working for everyone else. Lol

Haha scary stuff there and thanks for this. Now there's no way for noobs to really destroy their phone from the inside out without it being able to be fixed.

Okay. i Deleted everything and i started from square 1 all over again. Now Lgnpst.exe regonizes the .dll file & the .bin file. But when i click start... It then says everything will be deleted, i click okay, Then it immediatley says Finished. Then it says Sub proccesing ERRor. What did i do wrong? Im going to delete everything again and see if it helps to do it again. But please...What am i doing wrong?

okay, i did the whole process again, Nothing changed... sadly... still need help.

But now I have a new problem. I have no service. It's not connecting to Metro PCS anymore (roaming works) I tried calling metropcs to "reprogram" my phone, but the Service Code they provided gave an error "wrong code" they had no idea why, and couldn't help me..
I have the same problem

Dial *228 then press 5 to update your Preferred Roaming List and this should reset any changes that were made to the settings when it got bricked. See if that helps

If your phone's MEID were changed to all zeros during the emergency recovery which you can check by going into Settings > About Phone > Status. Then you have to change your MEID back to it's original one by following this guide.

Will this work is flash_image was used and caused the problem?
I had crossed the names during the command of:
"flash_image recovery /sdcard/<CUSTOM RECOVERY IMG>"

with a .zip file (the ROM file instead of the custom recovery file) and now it boots up with:
astboot mode started
udc_start()
-- suspend --
-- reset --
-- portchange --
fastbook; processing commands

Will this process work for this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Okay guys, I just did this whole deal so I thought I would try to help and retype everything a bit since it's a VERY pain in the ass process if you have to go through the whole ordeal, first, you DONT need to let the battery run down all the way...

1) Popout the battery leaving one end of your power cord plugged into computer or charger and the other end ready to plugin to the phone.

2) Holddown Vol Down + Back key + Camera + Power buttons, like mentioned above, and while holding those keys plugin the other end of the cord into the phone, the phone should boot into S/W Screen. Let go of the buttons and pop the battery back in.

3) Restore Like mentioned in original post.

4) Check for service.. if you are lucky, you are done. Otherwise continue.

5) Go to Settings --> About Phone --> Check to see if your MEID is there.. Follow the guide posted above or the link below if your MEID is a bunch of zeros.

[GUIDE] How To Restore Service If You've Lost Your MEID

6) Check for service, if done, they yay , otherwise you need to call metropcs on another phone and ask them to help you manually program the phone.

7) Restart / check for service. If fail dial *228 then option 5 and you SHOULD be good to go. This is what I had to do, FINALLY got service If wanted, you CAN reroot I did.

***) If all else fails and you are still under warranty go to metropcs corporate store and claim "you called up *228 and try to update the roaming list and your phone randomly crashed after you got the message that updating of the roaming list failed" and they should replace your phone. They did it with me, but I got it fixed before needing it.

Hello! First post, long time reader

for those that cant select the dll file:

~open cmd window (start menu and type cmd in search box) then right click and run as admin

~type in (or paste) regsvr32 "C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Model\MTP\MS690.dll" (if that is your path, if not, change it accordingly)

~open LGNPST, and your file should be in there.

Hope this helps

The Phoenix is an att version, since it doesn't have a camera button the sequence must be another combination to get to the s/w mode. You should try the other physical buttons. Also not sure if this method is universal for the entire optimistic one lineup tho :/

I think i figured out the button combination (up + back + power) but now i am having troubles unzipping the f.bin file. I have 7 zip but it won't unzip it into a .bin file....
