Default Major half root issue

(I have the LG L45C) Ok, so I rooted this phone. It was working fine but I had an issue with the notification light going off when it wasn't supposed to, so I factory reset the phone. Now my root won't work right. An app asks for root, and it is granted but the app will tell me root failed. Root checker says I don't have proper root. So I tried re-rooting with unlock root (the only tool I can use for this phone to root) and it says failed to chmod file: rootutility. An unroot gives the same message. I tried a hard factory reset several times. There are no custom recoveries for this phone. Please help me get root back.

Try downloading a terminal emulator and typing in: su
Then hit the enter key (the key on the bottom right).
Let me know what you see after hitting the enter key.

Nothing. It prompts me, I hit allow, and it says root was granted as usual but there is no output. but none of my root apps say they have root. None of them do what they are supposed to.

What did you see right after the su, after you granted the terminal emulator access? Did you see a $ or a #? This is important.

But NONE of my root apps work!! They all say they don't have root!!! If I download any root app, it doesn't work like its used to. Even a factory reset doesn't help. Any root app I get says, that it is not detecting root.

Slow down. A # means that you do have root.

Did you go to the Play Store and update the Superuser app?

I noticed that the permission of su didn't get changed.

Did you install BusyBox? Some rooted apps require the binaries that are a part of BusyBox.
You will need to go to the Play Store and download a BusyBox installer. Select the install location of /system/bin. If it fails (it does on quite a few LG phones), select the alternate install location of /system/xbin.

Download ES file explorer from the Play Store. We are going to see what's up with su first.
In the ES app go to the menu/settings and select file settings. Select "Show Hidden Files". Go to View and select "Details".
Now select the star, then the phone screen. This will get you to the root directory.
Scroll down to "system" and select it. Then select "bin". Scroll down to su and tell me what the permissions are next to it ,they should be rwxr-xr-x or rwsr-sr-x. If not, we will need to change them using the terminal emulator and shell commands (unless they are: rwxrwxrwx)

busybox will not install anywhere. It fails no matter which I choose. bin or xbin. I can't get root with es file explorer. It fails and then disables the check button for it. All it says for the permissons on su is that they are: readable: yes, writeable: no, hidden: no. I am unable to change them as es thinks I have no root.

Will have to change the permissions with the Terminal Emulator. Let me double check the code for that.

may be the software you use must have pasted the binary to bin or xbin

try in both directories

Try chown 0:0 also
I think chown will solve the issue

chmod is in the directory /system/bin but in terminal yeilds not found. Chown 0:0 says that i'm using the command wrong

Now that its been chowned. SU is dening super user rights to all apps. I still can't re-root

Maybe updating the binary with the 3.0.3.2 will work or just re-installing it if it's already 3.0.3.2. Let me check on that?
You not full bricked yet, lets see if we can get it straight. Will double check and see how to go about doing this. I saved mine 10 months ago when I lost su, got to remember how?

Well at lest you not bricked, which can happen when you do the factory reset on a rooted phone. It's not going to be easy to get your root back. Just take you time and I'll help research it. It may take a few days, just don't get impatient and do something that will brick the phone good.
I speak from experience. My first smart phone is sitting in eye sight, a mere paper weight because I was impatient.
I would not attempt to use any app or utility that requires root until your sure of what will happen. At lest until you can get root again.

It's when you try to do something the CPU and mother board can't handle. It locks it up, then it will only turn on and can't get past the splash screen or the boot loader. Effectively turning it into a phone as useless as a brick.

Do you know how to run shell commands from the PC? If your already set up with ADB and have the phone plugged into the PC, then once in the shell and you have a # after typing in adb shell, type in this:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system (hit the return key)
chmod 6755 /bin/su (hit the enter key)
mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/mtdblock1 /system (hit the enter key)
exit (hit the enter key)

This should change the permissions of the su back to rwsr-sr-x
then see if the apps will work.

Douh! I totally forgot. If none of that works try downloading su update fixer from the market. It might just work.

Thanks man, for trying. I think this thing is totally botched. I have tried su update fixer, and it can't run chmod even in a adb shell. mount is also missing it seems. or something. It says permission denied. It seems I can't run any command in any shell. Its even denying root in terminal now.

Try to re-root with the proper root exploit for your phone? It might work this time as your root is pretty well hosed, from doing the factory reset. Even more so now than when you first did a re-root.

Yeah, I still cannot root. I get cannot chmod file every time. Exact error: (cannot Chmod file: rootutility) program: unlockroot.com. Superoneclick fails as well. So do like 10 others.

OK, try not to use any rooted app as it might cause you system to crash, and then you really have a brick. Do not factory reset again or you will have a brick.
I'll have to call in some Big Guns to help.

I've been having issues with wifi as well, as well as the screen locking up, BEFORE I even rooted it. I think I should just call net10 for a replacement.

The big GUN's are ROM dev's and such. They are pretty tied up with projects right now though. Unless I can get a hold of another member I know? With your half root state, it could be super easy to turn it into a brick. Anything done has to be for sure and for certain, no guessing it might work kind of thing. I know, because I'm looking at my first Android phone which is a brick for that very reason. Half root mess and just had to keep trying to fix it. Oops too late, bricked it good.

You do know that you voided your warranty when you rooted the phone.

idk, let me know if you have an idea. Bricking without root access is possible?

Hi,
I am pretty confident about the solution

(1) Just to confirm ,
Is ur device dual sim or single sim ? ( is it p690 or p698 ) ?
(2) after connecting with pc in debugging mode,
what output you get of " adb remount " command ?
If you had rooted by some exploit by which the exploit changed the default.prop in boot.img , you would get something like remount sucessfull ......

this wont change anything but will just mount system as rw in adb !
if we are successful in this we may have a option open ...

I went through the same thing your going through. I even checked with root checker and another utility, they both said I no longer had root. I did the factory reset and BAM! B R I C K.

What did the Superuser Update Fixer have to say when you opened it up and ran it?

it basically said everything was fine, but when I tried to force a fix, it failed. Even after a like 10 factory resets, it hasn't bricked.

Oh ! Now i think try to root from zurgrush exploit !!

It is a option in super one click app ! or see this : zurgrush -- XDA
and if it is rooted by that way we will surely get a unsecured boot

After which we will have away into the system

Also, please give me the output of :
Code:
stat -c '%A %a %n' /system/bin/chmod
i think problem can be solved if zurgrush roots [[ I am damn sure it will ]]
as then we will have adb as root then anything is possible

Thanks for all your help guys. But I think I'm going to give up. I've already tried zergrush. It failed. as for that command, i don't know what it will say because I've already fixed to buy a new phone. Someone told me he can get me one cheap if I recycle my old one, the rep said he doesn't think it matters if its rooted, but if it does, they will just send me it back. I sent it in already. I know chmod permissions were screwed up, and so was the checksum of the file. Mount command was a size of 0. I don't even know how the phone was still working. If I get a new phone, I'm going to root and not factory reset again until I've unrooted. I think what actually happened and what the problem was is I was stupid, installed busybox, then tried to uninstalled it. The first time it failed, and the second time it succeeded. Thats when I think everything botched.

If you get a Busybox installer from the market it has two install locations. The one that works the best is the /system/xbin
Busybox is necessary for some rooted applications.

In the future the best way to unroot is to use the same exploit you used to root, as most have a unroot feature (check before you use it)

Busy box can be deleted one file at a time.

Busy box warned that I not uninstall as it can cause problems, the first time it said this happened (it said it failed to uninstall), but I ignored it. I think it caused issues later. As I understand, the root exploit I used install busybox anyways. So I didn't need to do it. I think somewhere in my busybox uninstalling and my factory reset attempts I caused this and it was probably because I reset with recovery. The regular option on the phone, worked fine the first time and preserved root. when I went to stock recovery twice, is when everything got all wierd.

Also, after reading a bit I did not remove the sd when reseting and I had link2sd install. This might have played an effect not entirely by itself but coupled with the fact I was using titianium backup when re-installing apps when it happened.

if that was the issue,
we must have got adb remount successful ( from a pc)
as zurgrush will at the first step unsecure the boot

That would fail to. Might have something to do with the mount binary being a size of 0

I got the new phone. Its all setup and rooted. I think the old one got screwed because of an ota update. I unknowingly thought firmware update was not an ota update. I think they are the same. the new one came with a seperate app for ota updates and the menu option is update software.

Carrier firmware updates of any kind will usually strip root access, replace your custom recovery, and sometimes even soft brick your phone. If your rooted, do not accept any updates of any kind while rooted. You can unroot, but sometimes the update makes it harder, if not almost impossible, to re-root you phone.
