Looks pretty easy make sure you have USB debugging unchecked and ready to check by having the screen timeout set to 30min. That way the screen doesn't go out and when it's time you have to fumble with the phone and miss the short window for doing it right.

EDIT:Fixing to change a motor mount and stabilizer on neighbors car as soon as he gets back with the parts. Will check back in every now and then when I can. Send me a pm so my phone will give me a notification ring. This way I know you need help and I'll try to clean up well enough to see what's going on.

I'm glad that everything will work on your P500h v20. let me know which one your going to use so I can read up on it. I'd like to stick with this until you've got a custom ROM on it, in case you need help and so the next time some one needs help that has your phone I'll be right on top it.

Cool thanks. I plan to try using superoneclick following the instructions in the link I put up.
I think I am going to use CM7 as a ROM, but not to sure on that yet.

2.3.3 is Gingerbread
CM-7 is Gingerbread only better. More customization tweaks. You will spend the first couple of weeks just seeing what all the tweaks will do for you.
Hint: You don't have to download a CPU control app. It will be in the CyanogenMod settings under performance. Just make sure you don't set it to run on boot until your sure you got it right were it should be. 400MHz min(all the time) start with 729MHz max, then bump it up one setting at a time until the phone reboots. Then take it back down 2 settings. This is where your CPU speed should be at for the best all around battery off charge times and performance.

I've got 4.0 Icecream Sanwich on my Optimus V, not a gingerbread ROM made to look like ICS but the real deal 4.0, real cool man.

Would love to be able to get proper ICS, will probably end up using a theme to look like it. How are you liking ICS so far?
Thanks for the tip for the CPU.
Really excited about this now, hopefully it works easily on monday. Will report back then

I'm going to do this in the morning. I have backed up all apps with astro file manager, is titanium backup much different to this, or can I give it a miss now i've backed up with something else.

At some point after i've rooted i'm going to partition my SD card to use part of it as internal memory, if I decide to get a new memory card at some point is it easy to get the stuff off the partition onto a new one?

Root went smoothly this morning, using superoneclick, although I did have to turn on USB debugging right from the beginning otherwise the program would not respond just before it got to the waiting for device part. I'm doing titanium backup and clockworkmod now, I will be back to do the rest in a couple of hours.

ETA: Although strangely my phone alwsy plays a song in USB debugging mode haha

Right so next steps I am planning to take is partition the SD card and install CM7.

With the SD card, if I partition 512mb with 0mb swap size, does that mean my internal storage will essentially be 512mb bigger and I will be able to put stuff on that portion of the SD card that I would not normally be able to? As my internal memory is pretty much full of stuff that can't be put on SD card right now, also is it easy to move stuff on the partition to a new partition on a new card if I got one? Thinking about upgrading to a bigger one at some point.

With CM7 the link in the all things root guide sends me to her:
[ROM][10JAN] CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC0-OptimusOne-KANG [.32][.35][BothBasebands] - xda-developers where do I get the ROM from on that site? Pretty sure I understand how to flash it using CWM.

I will be back at lunchtime to give it a go.

Also I figured out how to remove system apps using titanium backup, should I bother with this when I am about to put a custom rom on though? As i'm guessing they will be wiped then anyway apart from backups.
I want to keep the backups anyway in case I need to put it back to stock to sell or anything.

Post 3,4,and 5 have the links in huge letters in different colors for each version. Do you know which version is right for your phone? Also plug your phone into the PC and practice getting it into Emergency mode so you will be totally prepared before you start the process.

I have to jump from forum to forum(helping you and another member) I'll keep an eye on the unanswered post section to alert me to when you have posted.

I will look again at the link but yes I think the problem is I don't know which one I need, seems like there is a lot of information on that page but nothing I totally understand haha. I will look again though, no rush with the help

ETA: I see upon looking again that only one appears to be for new baseband so I am getting that. The big link doesn't work, but the smaller alternative link does.

Hmm just tryed to do it via rom manager, it booted into clockworkmod recovery but said it couldn't open the file (bad), installation aborted. Going to keep trying to figure out what thats all about during dinner.

Off the top of my head a possibility could be corrupt file as I had to restart a few times, I have horrible internet. However I am getting better internet at some point this week so if thats the case I will be able to do it then.

I redownloaded the zip file without having to restart it and it looks like it may be about to work, definately going better than last time. I also removed some stock apps, and pushed some others to SD using titanium backup.

ETA: Installed perfect and looks great, but titanium back up isn't there to restore my apps! Will have to figure that one out but i suspect its something as stupid as putting it in the wrong place in the first place. I think I have to install titanium backup again so I can access my backups. Had to setup my APNs again to access the net.

Installed GAPPS, cleared market cache, reinstalled ti backup and restored apps. Pushed most to the SD card except ones I use widgets for so I don't need to partition card for more internal memory just yet.
Set up CPU.
Next step, put on a theme, and figure out how to remove some apps from CM like the music player, look into calibrating battery as I think I read something about that, and look at why my SD card is quite full. I suspect its because when I was on the stock ROM I backed up system apps as well, in case I need to return to stock. Can I get rid of these and the nandroid would still restore system apps? Or do I need the backups? If I need them I might just store them on my computer for now.

After that i'm all done apart from tweaking settings in the weeks to come
ETA: My reserach says nandroid will restore system apps, so I am going to delete those backups and only backup user apps from now on.

This is the next step I am looking at now as well as I have everything I can on my Sd card and my phone memory is still full. I am reading the link now, but just to confirm I need to partition my SD card then I can use something like darktremor app2sd? And then the phone will think it is part of the internal memory and everything on the phone can go on there?

I found this on another forum, so plan to follow these instructions when I get a chance, but if anyone does it first let me know if it works ok

Steps:

1.Download all files needed (A2SDGUI, DARKTREMOR, TITANIUM BACKUP) and place in the root of the SDcard. Don't forget to unzip A2SDGUI pala para mainstall.

2.Install Titanium Backup.

3.Make a NANDBACKUP.

4.Make a backup of your user apps in TITANIUM BACKUP PRO.

5.Make a backup of the whole contents of your SDCARD to your PC.

6.Reboot to recovery.

7.Go to PARTITION SD menu.

8.Partition SDCARD.

9.Swap size:0

10.EXT size:512

11.Convert EXT2 to EXT3.

12.Convert EXT3 to EXT4.

13.Hit the back button and go to usb-ms-toggle menu.

14.Copy the backup of the sdcard you made in the pc back to the SDCARD.

15.Reboot.

16.Reboot to recovery.

17.Go to flash menu and flash DARKTREMOR.

18.Reboot.

19.Go to file explorer and install A2SDGUI.

20.Open the App, make sure na "APPS are on SD", "ZIPALIGN IS ON", "SWAP DEACTIVATED", "DALVIK CACHE TO SDEXT (Move and rebuild)", "DALVIK JIT is ON".... IMPORTANT: Choosing these options will reboot your phone to take effect.

21.Done deal!

22.Check internal memory kung nababawasan pa ng malaki, ako I have 50+apps and my internal memory is still 190MB.

Partitioned the sd card earlier, now I have 136mb free, if anyone has any tips for more let me know. With apps that are on my phone for widget purposes, are they now on the partition? And if I was to click move to sd in the settings it would move from the partition to the other part of the sd card?
