Is it possible Overclock LG P500, without changing the stock ROM

Hey guys I have LG Optimus One (p500).

Gingerbread 2.3.3 (from LG)
Rooted it successfully
Custom Recovery installed successfully (ClockworkMod Recovery)

The main reason I wanted to change my Room, was to be able to overclock my CPU. Then I heard that it is possible to Overclock it without changing the stock room?!
Is it true?? If yes pleas tell me how ))

Yes, you just need to flash a different kernel (one that allows overclocking). If you are looking for performance, try franco's kernel (search at xdadevelopers).

Thanks man. One more question pleas. I have read that I befor flasjing I need to consider if I have NEW or OLD baseband!!! Will you pleas tell me how to know if I have OLD or NEW???

You have new baseband. If you're on stock froyo, you're on old baseband. If you're on stock gingerbread, you're on new baseband. I dont think you need to consider baseband when flashing kernels. Anyway, if the kernel thread says you have to, then you have to...

Thanks man. I made a lot of researches about "How to Flash/Install kernel/ROM, I watched and read a lot of tutorials. Now I understand it's fairly easy to do. But what I found out is that all the available ROM's and kernels are still with bugs, so I kinda decided to wait a little.
I see that you have LG P500 as well and I was wondering if you are using any custom ROM/kernel, if yes pleas tell me which one? what bugs does it have..,, I mean just share with your experience If you may ))

Try franco's kernel (search in xda) for performance. I'm using it and it doesn't have any bugs. Goldleaf kernel is supposed to be good for battery life, but I haven't tried it yet.

Mik's ROM is very stable. But it doesn't have the data toggle found in stock ROMs.

Andy's Phoenix ROM is buggy - you cant add contacts, video playback is poor, but otherwise the ROM is super cool. I somehow solved the contacts issue when I reflashed the ROM. Video playback issue can be solved by copying 2 codec files from Mik's ROM - you can find how to do that in the ROM's thread, but unfortunately you wont find it at the beginning or end posts (its somewhere in the middle).

Both the above ROMs are based on old baseband. They use franco's kernel, so both have good performance. But both Mik and Andy dont make ROMs for the P500 anymore, sop dont expect any updates.

I've been wanting to try the new Oxygen ROM for some time, but I never got time. It seems good and is quite popular.

You can search xda and find scores of custom ROMs. Just read the first post which usually lists the bugs and make sure to check which baseband it is.

So, you are using only franco's kernel on the stock ROM of LG P500, correct ?? and there are no bugs? Like camera is working as well ... ?? and you are able to overclock your CPU? and how is the battery life with franco's kernel? is it at least the same as with the stock kernel?

p.s. The thing is that I want to get a kernel which would be different from my P500 ROM only by having the ability to let me overclock my CPU (with SetCPU), (cuz the stock one is not letting it go upper then 600MHz "you know").

Right now I'm on Mik's ROM (which already comes with Franco's kernel) because I had to use a gingerbread exclusive app and as cool as Andy's ROM is, the contacts app bug is an issue (and the official GB was just plain crappy). Before, I was on stock 2.2 (firmware version Indian V10E) and I think I did use franco's kernel with the stock ROM once and overclock, just to see if it works. There were no bugs. Camera definately works (BTW, I like the default camera app on the stock 2.2 better than Andy's or Mik's ROM. Image quality is the same, the interface is better in stock version with manual focus and everything). You should be able to overclock with franco's kernel on any ROM and I'm pretty sure you can overclock with goldleaf kernel too.

About battery life, it all depends on how much you use your phone. I didn't see any significant change in battery life just by changing kernels. It usually takes 2 days for my battery to reach 30% with normal usage. But nowadays it just lasts a day because I spend a lot of time surfing the web.

I dont usually overclock, except when I rarely come across that level in angry birds which lags.
