Go to settings>about phone and tell me what you see under Android Version, Kernel version, and Build number.
Download the Superuser app from the market.
Then Download a terminal emulator from the market, open it up and type in this: su
Then hit the enter key(it's the bottom right key). If you get a $ your not rooted. If you get a # your rooted. Let me know if you are or are not rooted.
With Phone turned off, press and hold the Volume down button then the power button (both at the same time). Hold them down until you see your recovery menu. If it's the stock recovery you will have 4-5 options. If it's a custom recovery you will have 8-9 options. Let me know which one you have.
