Support for the V did not die. Look around on androidcentral. I see a new ROM/ROM update almost every week. Just nothing for BACKside (yet). I do wish some of those ROMs were posted here though.

Can anyone help a fellow mate here? I recently flashed and installed BACKside on my Optimus V. 3G & everything worked, Overclocked to 825mhz and its been stable ever since. Its supah fassst, love it! lol

For two weeks I relied on Wifi, after I got my service back I noticed that Texting and Calling works, but data does not. Playstore says "No Connection" & Web says "Data connectivity problem.

Has someone been and overcome this issue? Thanks for reading

Had an issue with data once, I went in and re-activated the phone. That seemed to fix it. Also, somewhere in About system you can see your data network status. Check that out first.. but re-activate from the menu in the phone fixed data issues for me.

Reactivating will fix it, but it must be done from a froyo rom. Make a nandroid of BACKside, flash Harmonia or Bumblebee to use the activate app. When it's done (may take a few attempts) restore your nandroid and you're in business.

I can't even begin to go over all the crap I've done to my phone over the last week in order to get my 3G working. Just when I think it's back it takes a crap and dies. I've just about had it with Virgin Mobile guys.

Incoming rant....

Lightbulb

My phone was fine all morning, then someone called and when he hung up my phone froze, I tried everything it was stuck there, so I had to pull the battery. When I turned it back on it seemed fine,3g and 3bars were showing but I found I had no web,no market, no connection. It took awhile but I found out it was airplane mode button was stuck, but it wasn't showing as being checked it was sort of darkened. I rebooted now all is good!
knock on wood!
just thought it might help someone.

Judge placed an injunction on the Galaxy Nexus because of Apple's claims that it violates some of their 'patents'. Therefore the last I heard was Google was going to push out a software update to remedy the issue for now so they can still sell the phone while they appeal.

Silly, you don't need to go into a store to get wind of this news.

All kidding aside though, this is a pretty huge deal (there's even a petition to impeach Judge Koh. Impeaching a judge is pretty serious business. I bet that <insert bad word relating to female dogs here> owns an iPhone). You can't even purchase the Gnex at the Play store right now (I haven't looked to see if there's an update on weather or not they just ran out of stock, or removed the phone due to the ban).

Rather than derailing the thread any further, just check here.

They had the same issue with HTC One line. It actually delayed the release of the One X and S for about a month. Apple strikes again.

Question Cant seem to install ROM zip

So after following all the necessary steps in Recovery to set up for the install of the IHO-VM670-05022012 zip, I go to install the zip from my card and it is showing a "(Status 7)" error and that the installation has been aborted. Has anyone else came across this issue or know what I might be doing wrong?

hello, I'm a newbie and I'm trying to just root my phone (Optimus V) because the internal memory is full and I need to move apps to my SD card.

I'm stuck on the google apps. When I follow the link in the OP there are several mods available and I'm not sure which one I should get. It talks about medium-tiny (Tiny), medium (MDPI), high (HDPI) density, or Tegra-architecture Google Apps. I have no idea what to do here.

I really am looking for the simple solution. I don't really know what a kernel is or a ROM. I just want to get my phone working again... the internal memory has been at 90%+ and I keep getting warnings and no room to receive texts.

I did the Gingerbreak, and I installed the custom recovery image ( per the instructions here: [HOW-TO] Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM). I'm wondering, do I have to keep going at all? I think my phone is rooted... can I stop now and install the Link2SD app and be done? Or do I have to do this CM7 thing to get the LInk2SD app to work? If so , please advise which version of the google apps I need to download. thanks

You could stop, but the stock software on your phone won't use link2sd. Your best bet is keep going. Your phone is an mpdi device (that refers to the screen size.) Hope this helps!

I'm almost done. I have another dumb newbie question. how do I do this step:

7) Flash the BACKside ROM zip file.

I have the zip file on my SD card. how do I flash it? is it the "install zip from sdcard" function on the Recovery console?

thanks.

Yes, and then do the same thing with gapps directly after. Make a backup first before wiping stock off of phone

I was wondering, I've been having a problem w/Wifi performance (web browsing, streaming, etc) with the V and I'm not sure if it has anything to do w/the Radio update or BACKside iteself so I thought I'd pose the question here. Not to mention my 3g has been abysmal lately (0.14Mbs up/0.22Mbs down), I know VM's 3g spectrum is getting slaughtered, but I don't understand why my wifi performance at home would be so drastically affected. It used to be snappy so I'm not sure what to check first. *#*#4636#*#* gives me the normal radio selection, and not sure what else to check. Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting?
If you have already and still bad speeds, then do this:

First backup BACKside,
Reflash BACKside, check the speeds.
If speeds are still bad then follow my guide called "Using LGNPST 1.3 to FULL Stock ZV5"

See what your speeds are after you're done. If better, then we know it was ZV9's fault. If not, then your phone is acting up.

First and foremost with any WiFi issue, reset (power down, wait a minute or two, and then power back up in the proper order) your Internet connection including the DSL/FiOS/cable modem and the WiFi router.

Also, check for unauthorized WiFi device(s) attaching to your Internet connection and stealing your bandwidth.

A possible cause of the 3G slowness may be the VM DNS servers are overloaded by heavy usage demands in your area. Try changing and using OpenDNS and/or Google servers instead. Look for the SetDNS app in the Play Store.

HTH...

HI, sorry for not being more clear, it was late and I was a big inebriated lol

I don't actually HAVE the radio update, but was wondering if maybe it's something I needed.

I actually just reflashed BACKside completely (wiped absolutely everything and reflashed BACKside clean) thinking this would help, but it didn't. I'm wondering if there's something else going on that I'm missing.

Hi, thanks for the response. Yeah i tried that already, removed the battery in fact. As I stated previously I also reflashed BACKside completely from scratch. My wireless network at home is locked down via MAC address filtering as well as assigned IP's for all my network devices I've defined. Others are not allowed to connect.

I've checked my bandwidth and not having any troubles. What I'm seeing is physical slowness on the device itself when doing any internet related activities. The phone used to be zippy but that's why I'm kinda concerned that maybe I picked up something questionable. I've noticed all-over-the-place battery life as well, one day i get 8 hours, then next I get 18, it makes no sense.

Thanks for any ideas.

Default question about green machine theme

I'm a novice here. I just rooted my phone according to the instructions. I don't really know exactly what I did, but it worked. I have the green machine theme now and I'm having one issue with it. the status bar at the top.... there's a setting where I can choose the color of the status bar, but it doesn't seem to work. the status bar is different colors at different times. On my home screen it's transparent. some of the text is light colored and I can't see it. On other apps it takes on a dark color and I can see the text. Is there some way I can tell it to just be the same color always? if not, what can I do? I'm not really attached to this theme, so I could go back to the standard Android, or find another theme but Im not sure even how to do this.

any advice is appreciated. thanks

Cyanogenmod settings - status bar options you can set a custom color, set it transparent(what it is now) or go with rom(black) there's also cm7 themes you can get off play store. I think you need the drop down set to rom for those to work also

Jerry had provided the answer earlier in this thread as I'd similar issue when this customization feature was first introduced:

[ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

The step-by-step procedure:

Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Interface > Status bar tweaks > Status bar appearance > Custom Color

Status bar background color > #ff000000 (for black, or select desired color) > [Tap on center]

Clock color > #ffffffff (for white, or select desired color) > [Tap on center]

Click To Restart Status Bar

(or reboot the phone if necessary)

There should be a drop down menu with options like rom, theme, transparent or custom color. Set it to rom and reboot. Alot of the status bar options require a reboot. What I was saying is that I'm not sure if it has to be set to rom or theme for theme Chooser themes to work

To add to what tli said: On top of other obvious security settings, MAC filtering will also help in preventing unauthorized connections. (MAC address for your cell is in the About Phone area).

I'd let Chris' comment on using MAC filtering and static IPs as means of WiFi network security slide by as it's OT in this thread. However, when Petrah second MAC filtering, I just had to chime in...

Please read the following articles:

Wireless LAN security myths that won't die | ZDNet

I've been passing this article on for the last 5 years, and there are evidently still misconceptions regarding WiFi network security today. WPA/WPA2 with a strong password is the only proven secured protection--still hackable via brute force BTW. I personally use WPA2-AES keys that are 63 random printable ASCII characters, which I change at least twice a year, generated via:
