Does anyone know what happened to Jerry? Is he alright? It's been more then a month since his last post here, and that was his latest post on any forum.
I'd let Chris' comment on using MAC filtering and static IPs as means of WiFi network security slide by as it's OT in this thread. However, when Petrah second MAC filtering, I just had to chime in...
I've been passing this article on for the last 5 years, and there are evidently still misconceptions regarding WiFi network security today. WPA/WPA2 with a strong password is the only proven secured protection--still hackable via brute force BTW. I personally use WPA2-AES keys that are 63 random printable ASCII characters, which I change at least twice a year, generated via:
Well, i got a few things to change when I get home, thanks for the info, i appreciate it.
But I'm not sure it's exactly off-topic. I asked a question regarding Wifi issues I'm having and someone responded that someone may be stealing my bandwith...
I was never all that active there. It just feels like over the past two months or so the OV community has splintered, and at least half have moved on to other phones. I admit I suffer from phone envy. I'd like a more powerful handset, but I know I'll have to content myself with the OV for the next several years.
For I think the first time since putting the Backside ROM on my phone, I just tried to move some stuff off the phone's SD card by using the USB cable to connect the phone to my desktop computer. This previously would trigger a process wherein I could choose to have the computer "see" the phone as a storage device. But now, nothing happens except the phone indicates it is charging. Do I need to change some setting to restore this functionality? Or do we lose it altogether with this ROM?
EDIT: never mind. Installed the driver linked in the "Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM" thread and now it works.

Everyone needs a break now and then....I need a break, I've gone from porting to making bootanimations to fixing borked firmware to making unbrick guides to flashing ZVJ onto our phones (not the same as the flashable nitestalkr made) and now.
Do you know if it's possible to disable the green/blue BACKside boot animation where the android is bending over. I have my boot animations disabled but that one I still get. Makes booting my phone very slow after the IHO icon.
Ben's right. The first animation in embeded in the kernel. The easiest way around that is to flash a different kernel. I would recommend mgr666's kernel, it's wicked fast.
You can also just flash his ROM (MiRaGe CM7.2). I flashed the 7/16 release. You may want to skip the 7/27 because they were testing some changes that I think affected performance and will not be "defaults" in the next release.
I did a clean install and it works great. CPU is 122min and 806max using the interactive governer as recommended by mgr666 and it's really been great.

I figured it out haha, it was voice search, I read google voice somewhere else and installed it and it didn't fix the issue so I figured it had to have been a keyboard issue. Though I did stumble onto a forum saying "google voice 'search'" and then it dawned on me hahaha. Though I have had an issue with gapps forceclosing recently, might be an overclock issue, though I was thinking, why would gapps crash but not final fantasy 3 which I would assume would take alot more CPU to run...

Forgive my ignorance, laziness actually, since this forum is difficult and slow to navigate since my laptop died. Anyhow, is this ROM dead? I've seen no new updates in months...

It hasn't been updated since May 2nd, 2012. JerryScript has been inactive pretty much since then. Whether it is dead or not, idk. It might be a zombie soon if Jerry comes back.

I don't understand "difficult and slow to navigate" . I don't have a pc or laptop and i became a junior member in November 2011.
I was a total noob when it comes to smartphones and computers ,still a noob with computers, but what i'm trying to say is ,this was the first forum i had ever been on in my l life of 54 years. I had no problem whatsoever navigating and searching this forum with my OpV running on 3g.
I think this is the best forum with the most friendly and knowledgeable people going, and since getting a smartphone i've been on many.
Since being on this forum i have learned so much, like rooting, custom recovery and flashing custom roms to my phone.
As for this rom,its been my daily driver for the last 4 months. Everything works great on this rom, Jerry put alot of time and effort into this and deserves, i think a much needed break!

There's entirely too many variables here to make such a comparison. For example, I've always perused forums from my self built gaming PC on a decent sized flat-panel widescreen monitor. Going from that to trying to navigate a forum on a tiny ass mobile cell phone screen with my eyesight... wasn't happening.
In a nutshell; what may be easy for you may not be easy for another. Everyone is different regardless if you use the same phone.
And for the record, any rom that works this well could hardly be called dead. Aside from the browser security flaw (shared by any GB stock browser) all Jerry had been doing was giving us more toys. He had already worked out all the bugs...

Not all of them, there's still minor issues...the same issues are in my port for OM :-/
I thought that the 01312012 build was the best as far as everything working.
I just checked, it can still be downloaded. All the ones after it can probably still be downloaded as well.
Just go to the post with the corresponding date for the build you want.

Reason: fix typo
Ok, wow, didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I just meant has the development/debugging/updates ceased. And by "pain to navigate", I meant just slower and more tedious to search through the pages in the forums on my cell. Want trying to insult/upset anyone, especially Jerry. Been running this for a long time now and couldn't be happier.
I actually thought your question was reasonable. BACKside is more than a rom. It's a community. That community won't die even long after the OV is a nostalgic memento in a junk drawer.
