okay so this is my first rom EVER! it was running smooth for a few days then when i try to download apps from the market i keep getting the error "process.media has stopped unexpectedly..." it doesnt finish the download and force closes playstore everytime. i have reflashed the ROM five times at least. Please help!
Sounds like you did not flash Gapps, get them here and flash in recovery, be sure to format cache and delvik-cache and make a backup before flashing.
i did flash gapps. could it not be working because it started off as the old android market and not the newer playstore. should i just reflash everything? also thanks for such a quick reply
i did just let it update on it own. i have reflashed everything atleast 5 times in the past 4 or 5 days because of this... ill reflash one last time and let you know what happens. it usually takes about a day for the error to show up.

Go to your app drawer and select terminal emulator.
type in :
su
fix _ permissions
Let it run, when it's done, reboot.
Note : it usually takes about 30 seconds or so.
Also : you should check the md5 sums of your downloads to make sure they weren't corrupt. Don't download any files using 3g ,if possible use pc or wifi.

What recovery are you using? It sounds like it isn't wiping everything properly. You can use a Obijohn's update wiper to ensure that there isn't any junk data floating around in there. Here's a link to it... http://www.mediafire.com/?bh5i7grngo7cvc1
Flash it in recovery just like a rom.
well i reflashed everything and like i said it takes a day or so for it to start acting up. i ran terminal emulator and entered the codes you said. ill let you guys know what happens. If it starts to act up are there any other good roms you guys suggest?
The thing is this has always been one of the best roms out there for this phone. I'd like to help you get the problem fixed, but if you do want to try some others I can suggest several good ones. Harmonia, Mirage, and tvall's Magpie are excellent Gingerbread roms. Quattrimus and Cold as Ice are the most polished ICS roms. Bobzhome has about the only functional Jelly Bean rom for the OV, but there's still a lot of work to go before it's ready for everyday use.

I totally agree with brotherswing ... if you decide to stick with backside cm7, you should run the 01312012 build here : BACKside-IHO-VM670-01312012.zip this is the most stable of the backside build.
Remember : ALWAYS BACKUP BEFORE YOU FLASH!
GOOD LUCK !!!

You should read this : Do not Factory Reset your Rooted Phone don't worry about the title ... AndyOpie150 has a great tutorial in here for flashing roms and recoverys.
You can use a Obijohn's update wiper to ensure that there isn't any junk data floating around in there. Here's a link to it... update_wiper_1.3.zip
Flash it in recovery just like a rom.
Make sure you flash it before you flash the ROM and gapps (just in case you didn't know).
I reflashed to 01312012 so hopefully this works. Only thing that's bugging me so far is theres some random text at the top when on contacts. As long as I don't get the error I'm happy. Keeps you guys updated if it happens again.
Did you check the MD5 sum of your downloaded ROM to make sure it wasn't corrupted? This can cause errors your seeing. Another thing is residual data left over from the last ROM. IHO ROM's are really particular about this. What recovery did you use,and what did you wipe and format?
I've been working on a new build of this for my own use, but I think I'll post it. I'd ask Jerry's permission if I could but he was usually cool about people using BACKside as a base. Even though great progress has been made in ICS and JB on the OV, Gingerbread still has the best hardware support for us.
i just had a very weird thing happen with 01312012... i started up my phone and first i noticed that when i had it plugged in to charge the battery percentage on the lock screen said "sorry try again" then it went black screen i pressed the power button and got a frozen static screen. i pulled out the battery and turned it back on now its frozen...
i just thought i would mention this. i have had my ov for about a year and found out about rooting like 3 months ago and actually rooted it like a week ago. could this be the reason for why its acting up?
Actually, No.
I bought a friends used non rooted V that was over a year old and promptly rooted and put a custom ROM on it. Works better than this one. Keeping it as a spare.
If you used one of the approved recovery's for this ROM, and wiped and formatted everything you should have, after checking the MD5 sum of the zip, it will not give you any problem.

The BobZohme (VM670NH_recovery.img), and the Touch screen recovery (the best of the IHO recovery's before the COT) required that you put the Xionia recovery in it's zipped form onto the SD card in case of a recovery loop. The COT has that feature as well, so no need for the Xionia on the SD card.
ZenGarden Recoveries has the Fix Recovery Boot Loop as well, plus I'm moving away from the recoveries being center around my ROM build. A recovery should be a peace of mind thing that it well work for everything doing almost everything the person needs it to do.
I may take Jerry's CWM-Green Recovery and update some of the features, because I know people like that recovery simply because Jerry built it.
I Am going to edit the IHO git-wiki placing both BobzHome's recovery and Xionia Recovery as a achieve download.

That would be great ... i would rather have just one recovery to take care of everything!
so my recovery is CWM based recovery v4.0.1.5. im think im going with COT. how do i switch recoveries? what are the steps to doing it? thanks for all the help

Just click on the link that i posted earlier ,or go to the all things root guide, click on the recovery you want and follow the directions exactly as it says!
MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING!!!
NEVER DO A FACTORY RESET!!!
Since you are new to rooting, don't rush into this, one simple mistake is all it takes to have an expensive paperweight.
I did a lot of reading before i first rooted and still bricked my phone, because of a corrupt download. If i would have known about checking md5 sums, i could have saved some money, "and some hair. "
Read the guide, then read it again.

So I'm wondering, I've had this rom and kernel for a long time and love the ROM been using it for a looooooooong time. Though I am growing tired of the kernel, I'm moving into using the phone for gaming and have heard good things about the franco kernel, though I tried to flash the gamer kernel cause I didn't read everything (as usual) and had to go through the long process of fixing all that, wiping everything and restoring everything bit by bit for link2sd, and getting link2sd to recognize the partition >
Anyways, I was wondering what you guys would suggest, things that would be compatible, fix the touch screen yada and improve performance.
Looking to play games like gta3, Spiderman and such. I have chainfire but it doesn't help too much with gta3 even after deleting the audio
edit: also, while I'm here, after reflashing the rom and everything and restoring apps with titanium and link2sd, I have ran out of internal memory, when before I had 50 some mb, anyone have any idea what's up?? I still have like 4 apps I haven't been able to restore cause of this. Tried clearing caches and everything but still to no avail. :/

well I tried flashing Franco #4, v19.4 CFS and BFS and gamer.20 but none of them worked :/ I'm assuming this rom just isn't compatible with any of Franco's kernels? I'm just looking for greater performance, the touch screen fix and MAYBE the battery life increase but it's not as important, got any suggestions?? Sick of flashing kernels that get my phone stuck on the LG screen and then restoring, done it 4 times now.

I ran the BACKside ROM as my daily driver since it's creation (helped with a lot of the testing). The 01132011 build (still available for download) is the most stable build.
In the All Things Root Guide is a section on the kernels that can be flashed, and to what type of ROM.
Note: The latest MiRaGe ROM is now the best ROM for our phone. I have been puting it thru it's paces for a few months now. It is my daily driver.
Note #2:
You can only overclock to 864MHz with the V. Thats the best the ARM-6 processor can do. No two processors are alike due to microscopic imperfections in their manufacturing.
I have two V's. One can only be overclocked to 825 before it auto reboots. The other can go to the max with no problem.
I would suggest flashing the MiRaGe ROM and learning to deal with your processors imperfections, or lack there of.

Does mirage have the customizability things, like the status bar tweeks and long press options? I love how classy my home screen looks with the transparent status bar and dropdown background custom image, also loosing the status bar brightness adjustment will suck cause I use it alot haha

I tried Mirage briefly and no, it doesn't have as much status bar tweaking. I chickened out and went back to my trusty 1/31 build of BACKside pretty quickly, but not necessarily just because of that. One tweak that I think BS has additionally that I really missed was the ablility for volume control default to (media volume) instead of phone. I didn't see it if it was there in Mirage anyway. I know that's a really silly reason to chicken out but I really appreciated that feature (without having to install some other volume app or whatever)

Can anyone make a recommendation on what kernel with the CPU touch screen fix is compatible then at least? trying to play games on the snes emulators is pretty horrid, and assassins creed is a bit of a chore to play
Go to the All Things Root Guide sticky.
Download and put on the SD card all kernels for the type of ROM you are using.
Make a backup of your ROM.
Try each kernel to see which one works the best.
You only have to wipe the cache partition and the dalvik cache to flash a kernel so you shouldn't see any difference In your ROM until you play your games.
Also experiment with CPU Max speeds and governors.

Well the problem I have is the multitouch, if I'm holding the d-pad right and then hit b to jump in Mario it turns the d-pad direction to down or it hits the a button instead
Try a minimalist ROM like the almost-purity ROM (CM-7 IHO) and then experiment with kernels. As a matter of course, try the Harmonia 2 as well.
Its either that or edit the app to work with the ROM. You will need a computer, the Java jdk-6u41 with the class path to the java.exe set properly and APK MultiTool to extract, decompile, edit, recompile, and sign the app.
Those are your only options.
05022012 was the last build. JerryScript no longer supports this ROM because he has moved on to another phone and is spending all his free time (he still has a family too) developing ROMs for it.
Right now the best ROM for our phone is the MiRaGe ROM.
Use the ZenGarden recovery to flash it.
All info is in the All Things Root Guide sticky.
If you need help with anything just PM me.

One of us isn't understanding the other haha, I want to keep this rom, I just want to switch the kernal to one the fixes the touch screen CPU spikes. Was hoping someone could just recommend one instead of spending 20 min finding a compatible kernel, backing up, flashing it, get stuck at boot, restore, repeat.

If your talking about the screen freezing try disabling ics screen rotation.
The Following User Says Thank You to Thewraith420 For This Useful Post:
Totally forgot about the ics screen rotation problem in the last few builds. Doh?
Good call Thewraith420.
To DarthScruff: Not to many left here but me and whoever pops in every now and again. Don't play games at your level. No Idea which kernel will work for your purpose, if turning off ics screen rotation doesn't work.
