I actually bought a used V as a backup for when this finally dies (if ever). I'm not going to buy a 4G phone until I can have true 4G LTE in my area with a plan I can afford. I figure I have another two years at the least.

My issue isn't with how fast games are running (I can drudge through the bits of lag, its not that bad) or the screen freezing. Its with touching the screen in two places at the same time. I've read about the touch screen CPU spikes, where every time you touch the screen the CPU jumps to 100%. Which would make sense to why when I'm playing games the button pad (on the right side of my screen) hits the corresponding button I'm holding down on the directional pad (on the left side of my screen) and visa versa. Thus making most games, especially games that require jumping in certain directions and hitting two buttons at the same time almost impossible to play.

Performance governor, when playing game go up to 600MHz on the min (back down when thru). That should help with the lag.
Again: Try a kernel and see if it helps.
Just wipe cache partition and dalvik cache. If it doesn't help, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache and flash another.

I'm Done!

I did a lot of research after the ZV9 debacle, and found that Bobzhome's and mgr666's kernels had the best performance for gaming. I currently use my own kernel built from Bob's source, running at 480/806 on the savagedZen governor. I don't get the multi-touch cpu spikes.

Use the ZenGarden recovery to flash it.

LG Optimus V. BACKside ROM. I don't know wth happened, but it has become pretty worthless. Upon boot, it says "formatting", etc. (I can't recall it exactly, for if I reboot I'm stuck.) It then begins the initial setup, the "touch the Android to begin" screen. About 9 times out of 10 I can go no further, it crashes, beginning setup again. So at this very moment it's up and running, which brings a whole new problem - it won't mount the SD card. When I choose "Mount SD Card", it immediately says "SD Card safe to remove". When I attempt to reboot into recovery mode, the usual recovery menu isn't there. There is nothing to select, it just says "formatting", and starts the whole process over again. If I could mount the SD card, I could put the ROM and recovery on there and repair. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I've been stuck like this for a month. And it's the wife's phone, so that compounds the matter. Thanks for your time.

Which recovery did you install?
If you have the android sdk on your C: drive connect the phone to your computer, open a command prompt and type in:
Code:
adb devices
If you get your phones s/n then we can proceed with installing a new recovery and ROM the easy way.
If you don't have the SDK the go here: https://app.box.com/s/stqwz15yr4qgmcrj257h
Put on C: drive and unzip. Read the readme.txt.

Ok. Download the ZenGarden recovery and place in the SDK/platform-tools folder.
Go here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/optimus-v-rooting-roms-hacks/113762-fix-black-screen-custom-recovery-custom-roms-6.html#post1362458
Type in the exact name of the ZenGarden recovery in place of the Xionia recovery.

Ok, so running Kubuntu, I can see the s/n, but when trying to run SDK I get an error msg about missing Java. I installed Java, still get the error. I try to run in Windoze, and the "adb devices" command does nothing, not recognized. Ugh.

Download the SDK I posted. Delete the other SDK. Put the one I posted on the Root of the C: drive. Unzip and read readme.txt.
Make sure you already have the latest java jdk 6 installed.

Fennix, listen to Andy. He knows what he's talking about. And for the record, I'd like to add try testing the sd-card on your pc (fsck is the Linux command you'll need) as it sounds like the card may be flaky.

I"m well aware of Andy's credentials. I actually feel graced when he offers to help me. I've got some time this evening, so I'm going to take another stab at it. I haven't tested the card yet, but I did try a card from another phone. I'll test the card and get to work on the other things. I'm ok on a computer, but not so great on Android OS. Thanks guys for all your help. I'll be back.

If either of you guys are around...I am still having a stoopid prob. I put all the zips on the new card. Rebooted into recovery, but am still getting the same "FORMATTING!" screen. It's probably my own stoopidity. Alcohol and sleep deprivation can do that. Pre-thanks to anyone that can help me. My wife is leaving in the morning on an 11-hour drive and needs her cell.

Give more detail about the size of the SD card, is it partitioned, what size is partition, what format is partition, etc.
If no partition, have you tried wiping SD card using option in menu/settings/storage, then reformatting to default with Windows OS?

It could be an issue with the actual card slot on the phone. It isn't common, but they can in fact fail. Do you have another phone you could test the sd-card in? Much like on a pc, if the os can't read the partition it will want to format it. Since you tested with a different card and got the same results (albeit after some time) there could be an issue with the slot. Either way it sounds like something is corrupting the partition table.

It's not the ROM...

Did you flashed the CWM-Green-recovery-05022012.img that's included in the OP? QPST and all those other tools do not work with this recovery. I've found that only two recoveries for the OV are compatible: ClockworkMod (CWM) version 3.2.0.1, and some versions of Cannibal Open Touch (COT). Change your recovery until you find one that works...

FYI.

It's actually recommended to have a Froyo ROM (Stock ROM even better, if you backed it up) and the Xionia recovery for the best results.

I just got done un-bricking my ZV4 V using the KP500 (Seems to work best with ZV4 V's) so I have the stock ROM backed up, Will do the same with the other ZV4 V so I have a stock ROM backed up for it.

The KDZ works best for ZV5 V's.

Everybody should have a stock ROM backed up. They come in real handy some times.

Maybe for your unbricking but unnecessary for changing PRL... I've never needed to switch back to a Froyo ROM--stock or custom--in order to change the PRL in the OV--been doing that with GB ROMs for the past 2 years without any issues. There is really no "best results" with the PRL changes since it either works or not.

Granted that you're quite knowledgeable in many areas--way more than I am--but there's no technical justification for needing to go back to a Froyo ROM in order to change PRL. The extra and unnecessary steps of flashing ROMs back and forth would just add more complication, confusion, and chances of error, with no real merits or advantages, for any new user IMO. Anyway, let's agree to disagree as this is OT... The OP simply needs to flash a compatible recovery for QPST and those other tools to recognize the OV so to be able to change the PRL.

I prefer COT, but that's just my two cents worth. I can flash just about anything with it...

I've went back to the Touch Screen ClockworkMod recovery. I got tired of never knowing what the COT and ZenGarden would or wouldn't flash.
Now everything flashes just fine.

I put the zipped Xionia on the root of the sd card.

Well, keeping a backup recovery makes good sense much like keeping a clean backup of your rom.
And for the record, I don't even though I know I should.

I do that because the ClockworkMod Touch Screen recovery v5.0.2.7 doesn't have the "fix recovery loop" option.
If I ever experience a recovery loop I can flash the Xionia recovery.zip to get myself out of it.

COT has that option as well as the ZenGarden. I just don't use either one any more. To unreliable for what I need a recovery to do.

Now everything flashes just fine.

I put the zipped Xionia on the root of the sd card.
I've come across a few problems using zengarden, i wanted to delete a backup of an old backside rom i had instead it made a nandroid of the current mirage rom, at least it said it did, but when i checked Md5 sums didn't match so i deleted both with root browser.

Then it took me two attempts to make a nandroid backup of my current mirage rom?

But it did save me from bricking twice!

Still i keep xonia as well as touch screen recoveries on my sd card.

I had a couple of kernels that didn't flash using it.
I suspect there are a few more things, just went to the ZenGarden which did the job.
Now it doesn't work when flashing a 3G and Gapps fix, a theme and a modded launcher.

I need something that won't let me down, but, has the touch screen.
This is why I switched back.
I don't mind having to have the zipped version of the Xionia on my sd card in case of a recovery loop (I have two ZV4 phones).

Man 2 years I have been lurking on this board. My kids still use my original V with Backside on it for games and stuff. I prob should move on to Mirage, but I know it will give me some hell for awhile getting everything setup.

Absolutely! In fact BACKside was my daily driver until about three months ago when I got an Optimus F3.

You got an F3? Cool! I love mine! I've had it for a little over a month now, and it runs great. I have mine rooted, running stock V6. Debloated it based on a post LeslieAnn wrote at vmroms.com. She bought one for her mom.

Anyway, I briefly used this ROM just after I rooted my V. I settled with BobZ for a while, then got into Harmonia, StockOV, MirAGE, jduffield1's CMX and now squid's KitKat. Still have my V. Still on the original battery!

Sadly mine is gone. My family fell victim to a shady moving company when we relocated from Michigan to Texas. We lost everything that wasn't in the minivan with us, including my OV. I do miss it, but it could have been worse. We still have both computers, my guitar, and my daughter's 3DS. We have to literally start from scratch again, but now we're in the strongest economy in the US instead of one of the worst.

Beats where I'm at. Central Florida-Polk County. One of the worst.

Don't know how long I have before my rare genetic disorder kills me (Auto-immune Hepatitus, which is not contagious, just my own bodys immune system attacking my liver and trying to kill it), unless my disability attorney gets things moving a bit faster and I can get the treatment to sort of restore some functions. No job, no insurance (because of the progession of the illness, I can't work and Obama care won't approve me).

$200.00 dollar a month injectable drug (not so bad), but they need to monitor my blood once a week for the rest of life (another $100.00 each visit). Totall is more than I can afford a month, so no treatment until disability and Medicare (Medicaid?) kicks in. Hopfully before too much longer. Leggs and feet are swelling up so much I can't get my boots on, lace up shoes aren't far behind. Hands and arms are getting bigger as well (this is a very bad sign).

There you go brotherswing, you see, you don't have it near as bad as you thought.
