Sorry about the notification sounds not playing, I've isolated the issue, and will have a new build up soon with it fixed. If you need notification sounds, you can flash the 1017 build for now. Sorry for the trouble.

My phone, on the next to latest build, plays all notifications. I did set a custom ringtone which might have been the issue.

EDIT2: How do I revert back to an earlier build? Never had a single problem with 10172011, so I will probably stick on that one for a long while.
Is this one the best versions? I've been hanging on to the 0831211 version because it has been working reasonably well for me. With the exception of the phone not doing well GPS and other apps at the same time. The GPS/navigation app crashes frequently. But.. still acceptable given all things.

Since upgrade/rom change is really a pain, I would welcome if people could report what releases have been more "stable". I love how much development is put into this phone but with that comes instability for which I don't have much time to play with now

There was a last minute commit to CM7 that I didn't pull in before I built the 1101 BACKside that borked the notification sounds. If you rely on notification sounds, here's a fixed build, if it doesn't really bother you, you can wait for the next build with significant changes. Sorry for the troubles.

as of this moment, 10-17 is probably the most stable and best build. imo

I'm having lots of problems with my phone. I think most of my problems might be something not related to the 11/01/2011 Rom so maybe this isn't the best place to post.

1. My phone freezes, locks up, and force closes A LOT. I'll frequently be using some app when suddenly everything freezes and becomes unresponsive. The power button to turn off the screen wont even work. Sometimes it will resolve itself, sometimes it will give me the choice of force close or wait, and othertimes i cant do anything until it turns the screen off itself. Also very frequently will freeze at the lock screen as I type my PIN to unlock.

1.a. Frequently when I unlock my phone and return to whatever app I had opened last, the app is unresponsive and i have to force close it. I was using Maps a lot yesterday and kept having to force close and restart everytime I unlocked.

2. GPS refuses to connect. I traveled from Clarksville, TN to Nashville, TN last night (around 1 hour trip) and couldn't connect to GPS I would say 90% of the time. Once I got outside of Clarksville (a slightly bigger small farm town) I lost connection. The entire time I approached, was in, and passed Nashville I had no GPS connectivity. Even right now in my hotel, my GPS is placing me about 50 miles southwest of where I am.

2.a. I think this may be a problem with my laptop more than my phone. I set up a wireless ad-hoc so I can connect to my hotels internet through my laptop (because my 3G speed is super slow). When connecting to my laptop my phone endlessly cycles saying "connecting" then suddenly displaying "disconnected"

2.b. And while I'm at it, why is my 3G speed so slow? I've had it since late April and only 1 time have I seem my 3G speed above 100kB/s using the Speedtest.net app. Even here in the eastern outskirts of Nashville my it says p/d/u = 103ms / 85.1kB/s / 33.1kB/s.

3. There is no time visible in the status bar. There is a blank space of where the written time would be. I tried changing the font color but still nothing is there.

4. For the notification power widget (the buttons at the top in the pull down notifications) I have the brightness button. I press the button to change the brightness but nothing happens. It used to work no problem until I updated.

Sounds like a bad download or bad flash. I would wipe everything, and format boot, system, data, and cache in recovery, then reflash the redownloaded ROM, and gapps, then reboot and restore apps (no system apps!).

There's only one slight problem I'm facing (which isn't a big deal cause it fixes itself) when my phone is plugged in, it will sometimes charge up to a random percent and the discharge slowly till the battery dies (while plugged in) and then recharge normally and hold its charge.. it rarely happens, not just on my OEM battery, but on my 2 spare ones as well. Its not to much of an issue cause it rarely happens, like maybe once or twice randomly every month or so. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this.

I pull in code from InferiorHumanOrgans, and CyanogenMod. Some of these pulls are automatic during the compiling procedure. I have to be sure I have pulled in everything before I begin to compiled, or these type of issues can occur.

Make sure you have write access to rename it. I moved mine to /mnt/sdcard/.

Whoa what the hell. I did what you said and I was finally able to download apps but now I saw that my phone has low storage and it says I only have 13 mb free. Before this 10 mb app it had around 90 mb free. I hope there wasn't some issue that was giving me a false reading of 90 mb free because that would depress me haha.

Are you using a wall charger or USB port?

If it's a USB port, some computers change their power settings when in sleep or standby mode. This could cause the USB hub to lose power.

Flashed 11/2, gapps, bootsound activator, my new theme roon, installed new market, flash10.3, Adobe air, and linked my apps and everything is running smooth. Great work and thanks for the fast fix.

A wall charger.. and actually, after having the latest build for a day now, I can't seem to really charge my phone, the highest I've seen it at was 69% but that's after about 9 hours of charge time..

Have you tried resetting your battery stats in the recovery? Or take the battery out, hold power for about 30 seconds to drain the remaining power in the phone then put the battery back. I would try that before resetting the stats.

I wiped the battery stats before I flashed the new build, and I tried the battery pull/drain yesterday.

Your cable or one of the connectors might be going bad, this has been confirmed to cause this issue by users last month.

I was afraid that might be it. Oh well, not much I can do about other than spend less than 10$ on a new charger. Thanks for the help.

Default Battery Issues?

Those of you out there experiencing short life on their V. I have been flashing and flashing and flashing since I got my phone in April. At this point out of the numerous times I have flashed it has killed the battery life on the original battery. About a month or two ago I purchased the 2800mah extended battery for $25 from Amazon. Since then I enjoy 2 to 3 days of average use on a full charge. Anytime I flash I just throw in the old battery. I know its not the best economical suggestion but I would refer it to everybody. Extended batteries are awesome.

Oh and thanks for the newest update and being so speedy with the notification fix Jery. IMO it's the best Backside's ever been.

Do the extended life batteries fit in the phone just as well as the factory? I have heard other phones where u can't put the back on the phone with the bigger battery.

They come with a new battery cover, because they are larger than the stock battery. If you have a case, chances are it will not fit.

Alright, I think I found a little bug. In the notification tray, the Sound setting only turns the sound back on if the phone is either on Vibrate or Silent. It won't go to Vibrate or Silent by pressing on it. Just a little bug I found, but nothing to really irritate me like not having notification sounds.

Mine does this also.

I noticed something on my phone. When making a phone call, the volume always sounds like its on the loudest setting, but its on the lowest setting. If I press volume UP the sound decreases to the correct level. If I decrease it back to the lowest it will give the correct sound for the level. The only problem is the initial sound is always the loudest regardless of where the volume is actually set. This happens on speaker phone too. My brother also has an Op V and runs backside cm7, his phone has this problem too.

I hope this post makes sense.

Default Backing up an app

Hey guys, I'm still loving the everliving crap out of my phone with the backside ROM. My g/f has the same phone, and I'm ready to root and mod it as well. She's in love with this Tapfish game, and I want to make sure I can back it up, along with the data (months worth of playing), before I root. Is there any safe way to do this? Thanks much!

Titanium Backup is what I use.

I was hoping to do it before I rooted. I should have asked, is there any danger of losing that data while rooting?

If there's no danger, do I use Titanium backup, back it up to the SD, flash it, get everything going, install Titanium backup again, and then import the backed up file? Is that how it works?

There is always a danger of something going wrong, but with rooting it is small.

Root
Backup with titanium
Install custom recovery
backup phone via recovery
flash rom
install titanium
restore tapfish

I've looked into this somewhat, but I don't like to mess with the phone apps, after all this is a phone in the first place.

It's an issue for CM7.

Ok. Its really not a big deal. Figured I'd at least say something. Smart move not wanting to mess with the phone apps, I can imagine the headache involved.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the amazon app store? It keeps saying "Please enter a valid email address and password" o.O (If you're already logged in then it should be fine; the problem is actually logging in)

Yes, it was in response to someone asking about backing up their SO's tapfish game.

I was having issues, but not with the Amazon app. I couldn't load up the Market as it kept telling me to log in. Annoying as shit I tell ya. I ended up reflashing gapps and was finally able to load up the Market like normal.

I was able to find a solution to my problem. [SOLUTION] Amazon App Store "Temporary error" login - xda-developers
Funny how it was due to too many reflashes xD at least now I can see exactly how many flashes I've done for my phone haha! I'm at 24 times so far!

I had another problem though and I wasn't able to find the solution yet. I applied my usual LunarUI theme and when I rebooted, it reverted back to the stock theme (Not Green Machine, as I don't have it installed). Any ideas as to why this would be happening? I tried wiping cache partition and dalvik-cache then tried applying the theme again but it still wouldn't stick.. I'm attempting to reflash the entire ROM to see if it works.

Jerry,

Question... is the phone supposed to auto adjust itself when you cross time zones? When I went from Washington State to Illinois, the time refused to adjust itself. I had to manually go in to the settings and reset the time and choose the time zone. It's set to Automatic by default. I haven't flashed the latest build yet as I'm still running the 10/17/2011 build.

I honestly don't mind doing this manually... was just wondering if its a bug or if this is perfectly normal. My boyfriends HTC auto changed time, so was curious.

And, thanks for all of the hard work you always put into BACKside. I couldn't possibly be happier with my phone.

I just wanted to say thank you for the ROM. I appreciate the work that goes into it and the quick responses to issues.

THANK YOU!

I just happen to have a friend who just got back from a cross country trip to Florida and back. He said that the clock did change eventually, but it was not immediate. This makes sense due to the fact the phone needs some method of knowing it is in a new time zone. Once you are far enough across the line, the cell phone towers may trigger a change in the phone, until then only GPS or manual settings can change it.

Maybe if you run a sync of your Google account after crossing the time zone

Jerry is right. From the Permissions thread on Opera Mobile, "..your location can be determined by three different methods: (1) GPS, (2) nearby WiFi APN and (3) Cell ID. Each method has pros and cons regarding speed and accuracy."

So maybe connecting to a hotel/coffee shop network or using the GPS will update the time immediately without having to wait for the cell networks to automatigically do it for you.

I'll test this out when traveling across states over TG weekend.

Is anyone having trouble connect their phone to their computer via USB? I've installed the drivers here, but when I connect with a USB the drivers can't be found. It has just recently stopped working last night and I rooted about 5 days ago. Is there a step I'm missing here?
