Smooth running ROM. Thanks for releasing this for the rest of us to use.
Seems a little bit more battery hungry then the stock 2.2.1 ROM.
Here's a little "bug" for me that I can not seem to get corrected.
I see that there is a lockscreen included with this ROM in the setting which I have not tried to use yet. I’ve disabled it and using my Widget Locker which I know works the way I want it to.
Here’s what I noticed and can not seem to fix.
I use Handscent for my text messages. With the stock ROM, when I receive a message it appears on top the lockscreen and I have it set to keep the phone on for 1 minute.
What’s happening now is I have all the times set I can find to the desired amount in the settings, but when I receive a text message and turn the phone on to view it, the phone turns off after 15 seconds anyway.
I have noticed that when I touch the screen, it will stay on for the desired amount of time, which I guess I’ll just have to do for now but I keep forgetting since I do not get that may text messages.
Any way to correct this without touching the screen?
The lockscreen that came with the ROM, again I have not played around with it yet, can you place widgets and apps on the screen? If not then it will not work for me. The quick I look I had at it appeared you can not do that, just able to add date, time, weather IIRC.

The lockscreen is the stock slightly modified. Widget locker is a battery drain because it doesn't fully sleep. Never tried it on froyo so don't know how it worked there. There is no widgets you can add to the stock lock screen.
I've noticed since flashing the newest ROM, the screen sometimes fails to turn back on when I move the phone away from my ear to end a call. Has anyone else noticed this at all?
Before I upgrade to the latest version, I would like to get verification from someone that the Square credit card reader is operational with the latest version.

When you have your phone near your ear during a call, it turns black to prevent any accidental button press with your ear or face. When you move the phone away from your ear while in a call, the screen will turn back on, it does so because your phone thinks you want to do something involving the screen, such as ending the call, using the phones interface, or anything involving the use of the screen.
To enable this option, goto setting/call settings/ and check the box where it says "always use proximity". I hope that helps you out.

Square Up starts like it should and recognises the reader when it is plugged into the headphone jack like it should, but does not read credit cards. When I swipe a card, it does nothing. When I use the orig Froyo 2.2.2 that is rooted and heavily tweeked (most everything is moved to SD or removed or frozen), it works fine: vibrates as it reads. I haven't done any tweeking on CM7 except turned key press sounds and haptic feedback off. Any ideas out there?

I have a problem here. I rooted my second (unactivated) V today, flashed VM670NH_recovery.img which worked fine, and then attempted to flash the BACKside ROM using the file linked in post #1.
After flash & reboot, I get the IHO screen, then the Virgin Mobile splash screen, and then just a green android screen. None of the buttons work, and I can't boot into recovery. Taking the battery out hasn't helped.
So what's my next trick? I have adb, and the adb devices command returns the serial number, so at least I can work with it there, although I know nothing about adb, if that is in fact what I should use to try to get the phone running. Let me know.
Turn phone off.
Then Hold home+volume down then power button, all at the same.
When you see the LG logo, let go of buttons.
It will boot into your recovery.
Then go here Do not Factory Reset your Rooted Phone
Start right after it shows were the phone has booted into recovery.

Changes:
- Synced with CM, lots of behinds the scenes tweaks (translastions etc), added Holo lockscreen ring style
- Changed first bootanimation, replaced VirginMobile's with one for BACKside-IHO
- Added update checker (see below for details)
Thanks as always to Blarf, BobZhome, mrg666, LeslieAnn, tdm, kermikalelite, thekraven, Whyzor, bigsupersquid, the CM team, the AOSP team, and a whole lot more!
NEW -- BacksideUpdater.apk is now included in the /system/app, accessible via the app drawer or under
Settings>>CyanogenMod settings>>System settings>>Check for ROM updates
Open the app (or select the option in settings), and press the Check Now button. If a new version is available, you press the Download Now button to download it. After downloading from the webpage, press your back button to return to the app. Press the Reboot into Recovery Now button to boot directly into recovery, then proceed as normal to wipe cache/dalvik cache and then flash the newly downloaded ROM zip file (it will be under downloads unless you've changed your default download directory).

Most likely something was happening in the background at the time that kept it from responding. Let us know if it continues after a reboot or two.

Hey Jerry a couple questions, sorry if they were covered.
Was wondering, the camcorder icon gone by design right? No big deal as it appears camera icon function defaults to what you used last and it's only a swipe to change.
Also, I didn't install GM theme yet so it's normal for (status bar appearance) being on (theme) to act transparent, again with default (no theme) installed? This I notice just opening Dolphin, status bar would turn white. Being on ROM it stays black.
And, even with boot animation disabled, you'll still get your custom animation now instead of (VM default in addition to theme animation) like last release? But can't disable all boot animations correct? Not a big deal just wondering, thanks Jerry!
I'm looking forward to setting up and trying out the adb file transfer function!

Ooops, I forgot to add the camcorder icon back in during a recent merge, I'll get it back in on the next build.
First bootanimation is the carrier's, but now it's mine. If people want, I can remove it, it's not necessary, though it shouldn't add more than a second or two to boot times. In the past the initlogo.rle was the CM replacement for it since we couldn't activate the actual bootlogo animation at the time.
Status bar is tricky to make work with themes, so I currently have it set to default to transparent in order to try to keep from breaking as many different type of themes as possible. Of course, you can set it to whatever color you like.

Hi Keith,
It was recomended to me to use BumbleBee ROM to be able to use the Square Up app. I downloaded BumbleBee overclocked update_bb_rom_2.4.zip along with update_wiper_1.3.zip. I found these two files at Android Central along with directions to use them (not easy to download though). Even though this ROM is overclocked, it comes with an app to adjust the cpu any way you want. I found the ROM interface to be very user friendly and easily adjustable. Since Square works great with this ROM, I will use it until Backside gets fixed.
Gerald

Thanks guys, I guess the problem must be on my end. I'll try to flash the rom again tomorrow and see what happens. JerryScript, the green bootup screen looks fantastic.

Were you able to resolve it? What rom were you using prior to flashing BACKside? I have just restored a nandroid backup of MiRaGe and Wi-Fi is working again like normal.
I'm also having a problem with the new build. The status bar is transparent on my lock screen, goes black on my home screen, and back to transparent with whatever else I bring up. Also, I can't seem to change this no matter what option I select under status bar appearance.
Use the IP address listed and add port 5000 to use ADB via WiFi, ie: adb connect 192.168.1.123:5555 (replace IP address with your phone's)
Jerry this part I'm not getting really Do I tick (use static ip and then something, or something I input on my desktop)?
You look up your phone's local (ie wifi) ip address under
Settings>>Wireless & network>>Wi-Fi settings
Press your menu key and select Advanced, look for your IP address

Set it to a custom color option, then reboot.

OK, using the latest build which I had previously downloaded via wifi on the same build (loaded right after I built it), I redownloaded the ROM and GreenMachineTheme zips from the links posted here.
I then checked the md5sum of the downloads on the phone using terminal.
I then booted into recovery and wiped cache, and under advanced wiped dalvik cache.
I then flashed the BACKside zip file, and then the GreenMachineTheme zip file.
I then rebooted, and waited patiently for my phone to fully initialize
(I always wait 5 minutes on first boot before touching the phone to let it fully load up )
While waiting, I saw the wifi icon engage (turned white then green) before the phone went to sleep during first boot up.
(took about 7 seconds)
I then unlocked the phone, swiped the screens around a bit to be sure there was no lag left, used the Power Control widget to turn wifi off, counted to 10 slowly and turned it back on. It reconnected to wifi in about 10 seconds.
I then opened my browser and loaded up several webpages, opened the Market, streamed some music via TuneIn Radio, watched a YouTube video, and checked scores on Score Mobile.
There have been no changes to wifi in the code for a couple of months. My only conclusion is that the ROM's wifi is fine. Sorry to say, but it may take a complete wipe/format/reinstall-restore to fix whatever issues you may be having.
I have the WiFi problem too. I did a complete wipe and format. When I turn WiFi on it never shows available networks and the WiFi box unchecks itself after about 10 seconds. Never had a problem with the previous builds. I'll play with it some more later. Have to get ready for work.
If your WiFi box unchecks itself then your router is not recognizing your phone. Sometimes it's just a matter of typing in your password correctly. Sometimes you need to turn the router and phone off, then turn back on after 5 min. Try password again.

Thanks, I got into recovery. Not sure why it didn't boot into recovery last night. Through adb I can tell that this is a Hitachi screen. I'll have to research this more to find the best rom & recovery to use with this phone.

I don't have an option of typing a password as it never sees a wifi network, Usually about a dozen, besides my home, will show up. I'm at work now and there are none showing here either. Usually there is one for password and one for guests.

Router is not the problem phone didn't see anything which normally shows about 5 places around my house including our free city WiFi. It showed nothing at all. I always do a full wipe on every update so it wasn't that and when I restored my backup, thankfully I always backup and keep the last release on my card just in case, everything worked fine. I'll try to download it again sometime today, mediafire was acting strange last night, and reflash and see if that works hopefully it does.
On a side note Jerry, any progress in implementing an Ics or ripple type lockscreen, the icon is the same as the ones you just put in.

I noticed no wifi issues with new build. I do notice that after flashing the activate bootsounds there is no sound during boot. I've wiped Dalvik and Cache 2x but still no sounds. So don't know what's going on there. Other than that all seems to be running quite smoothly after a few reboots.

I'm beginning to think I have a bad download. And once I have a good download I'll update my themes. I don't want to use bad files and screw everyone's rom

@Jerry or anyone else concerning adb...
I'll put it another way, the trouble I have is not where in the network menu this is, I don't know what to do with the resulting address you describe in the last part of your instructions. Do I input this number I end up with into like say Astro file manager for network location, or something else in (network menu settings)? Sorry if I'm being overly dense about this.

Second download still no go. How do I check the md5 using my phone?
Found an app called check md5 and it matches. I did a full wipe md5 matches I didn't add anything else so I have no idea what the issue is. I also did not change a single setting my second time around.
On a side note seeing as the download is not bad I will update my themes.

Those who had wifi issues, are you using the factory reset option in recovery? I've had two reports of people who did, and it borked their wifi. Once they installed an older backup/build, and then installed the newer one again without doing a factory reset in recovery, and only wiping cache and dalvik as instructed, got their wifi back.
Just for safety, I did a new build this morning without the ftmpower binary. Shouldn't make any difference, but better safe than sorry. Use the new BacksideUpdater to grab the 01192012 build.
