Default [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Introducing the BACKside ROM, a port of CyanogenMod7 for the Optimus V.

Edit: Updated 05022012, download links at bottom of post

Credits:
Blarfie - For creating the IHO repository, and fixing most of the bugs with CM7 OV ports
AOSP - The Android Open Source Project for creating the offical Android source
CyanogenMod - The entire team for all their hard work creating the best Android Mod available
KermikalElite - For helping me set up my build environment and compiling this ROM

Special thanks to ath3nos - for getting the ball rolling on the S, zefie - for his original work on CM7 port for the OS, mik_os - because he started it all, and many others who I may have left out! Thanks to Danny Baumann for fixing the custom ringtones! Huge thanks to Tom Marshall aka tdm for fixing the long suffered charging-while-powered-off bug!

STANDARD WARNING-- Flashing any custom ROM may semi-brick your phone!
Follow the installation instructions to the letter!
Always backup your apps, and do a backup in recovery before flashing!
This is a WIP (work in progress)!

This is the Optimus V build of the inferiorhumanorgans repository which is forked off the CyanogneMod7 source tree, the same as ath3nos, but built for the Optimus V and not the Optimus S. No S-to-V script necessary. There is also an optional Green Machine theme built in UOT Kitchen for those who are interested, or you can theme your own if you like.

KermikalElite was the first to build for the Optimus V from the IHO source, and you can find his latest buiilds, and other users builds, in Blarf's OP.

Known Bugs

Fixed 07212011 USB Mass Storage is not working, you will have to use ADB or put your sdcard in another device for file transfers
(Blarfie is working on it, Windows USB drivers can be a nightmare)

Fixed 07302011 Camera sometimes places artifacts on the edge of images when zoomed at some levels.
(The problem is known, expect a fix, but other things have a higher priority right now)

Fixed 07302011 Custom ringtone settings are not followed, default ringtone rings instead

Voice Dialer button is not mapped, use Button Remapper and set it as you like.

Fixed 10172011 Headset button doesn't work. Thanks rcmarotz (original thread here)

Fixed 07212011 Screenshots taken with the power button menu are saved inverted 180 degrees, you can flip them with any photo editing app/prog, I just let photobucket take care of these screenshots.

Gonna give this a go once I get it downloaded. Does this include the fix to AOSP for the camera autofocus? If I don't get a response, I guess I'm about to find out. :-)

Edit 1: Install went smoothly. Love the boot animation. Now just waiting for it to finish loading.

Edit 2: Gah. ADWLauncher built in? Not really a big fan of that choice. But overall seems pretty solid so far. Will run with it for a little while before making a definite decision. Also noticed it seems the autofocus is fixed. So yeah... Just kick out ADW and I'm a fan.

We are trying to keep at least one branch as close to CM7 as possible, which is why ADWLauncher is included. You can uninstall it and install the launcher you like.

Once the bugs are fixed, I will release a lean version without launchers, themes, wallpapers, and extra ringtones, should be able to cut the install package down to less than 60megs that way.

Edit: I posted a new build, new kernel, and a few bug fixes, see bottom of my OP.

Yay! Screen rotation fixed! Didn't even see that it didn't work until this morning (as I turned in pretty much after the install).

So... What makes this ROM different than AOSP, et al.? I guess I'm not really a person who gave up on AOSP to switch to you because of something lacking in AOSP, so I don't really notice and subtle things that change... Everything I've done so far has seemed to be working.

Blarfie has laid out the differences between aospCMod and IHO builds:

Differences between the 'aosp' CM7 and IHO CM7:

- This is based off of the unstable CM branch (7.1), 'aosp' used 7.0.2. Lots of fixes and little new features here and there, but these are equivalent to the builds more formally known as nightlies.
- This is being actively maintained
- Source is available (for IHO)

Camera works better, overal performance is snappier, and there are a few more features than aosp, mostly due to changes in the CM7 source that have been incorporated into IHO. Once asop gets back in the kitchen, he willl most likely sync with CM7 again.

BTW- Blarfie's new kernel is running great!

In the OP there is the following line: "Blarfie's new kernel v41 (with ext2 support, see his posts on page 2)". I use Link2sd which does recognize ext2 or any other choices with this rom. The post also aludes to 'his post on page 2', Where are the posts that contain this page 2?

Other than my inability to use Link2sd, the ROM seems terrific. Thanks for your time and effort in development of this. I only wish I was capable of doing it myself. Thanks again.

Sorry, that page 2 refers to the original thread in the other forums.

Blarfie added in the module config for ext2, but I forgot to uncomment it before building. Probably just gonna add it to the kernel, check back in a day or so, we should have a fix soon.

Hello
I'd like to put in a vote for a slimmed down version of this ROM (nothing but the essentials)... Once all the other important bugs are worked out first

All I can say is.... Holy Cow!!! My hat is off to you all who worked to put this Backside Rom together. It is fast, sleek and just plain cool!! I'm not a fan of ADW, I prefer Go Launcher. Other than that, I'm sticking with this rom. I like the green particle boot animation.

Thanks for all the feedback, the testing and bug reporting you all are doing is helping us make this better every day!

I'm compiling the latest build, with support for ext2 and ext4 built into the kernel (Blarfie is amazing), will post as soon as it finishes and I do some quick testing.

I did some benchmark testing with DeviceMark and CF-Bench by chainfire. The best numbers I got all around were for 787Hz-480Hz interactive. It started to reboot on it's own at 825Hz-480Hz interactive, all though I did get some numbers with DeviceMark for that speed.I've got a full charge and will run it hard. I also installed a CPU Temp Monitor, and a stability tester will give you the info when done.EDIT: or I can wait and run the tests on the new update(The numbers and results from my own testing for this build are pretty fantastic)

Build 07212011 is up and ready for testing!
Green Machine Theme

-New kernel with ext2 and ext4 support built in, please test your links2sd and other 2sd methods and report results.

-USB storage mode fixed.

-Screenshot from power button menu being flipped has been fixed.

Updated BACKside rom install instructions, if upgrading from a previous build wiping cache/dalvik should be sufficient.
(I still do a full wipe/format when testing my nightly builds to ensure a clean compile)
Enjoy!

Thanks again go to Blarf, smooth as silk as always!

Wow! This is such a cool ROM, it's totally amazing what all this can do. Just found another little Gem(the Render FX widget supplied with the ROM) that allows you to go to a night mode with the screen, and pick the color and effect(11 in all)

I have zefies right now and am thinking of installing this because I really like the green machine theme. does your ROM support startup sounds or is there a way you can add it in?

Nice work too!

Really love how great this is coming along. My phone seems snappier and more responsive than it did with the latest AOSP.

FYI: Updated version includes the FM Radio again...

could DarkTremor's app2sd work with this? I've tried Link2sd but apps seem to be going to my SD and not to the ext partition (maybe I'm just not doing something right) but I know DTa2sd does it automatically... what do ya think?

I read on another thread that bluetooth doesn't work.... Can anyone confirm or deny?

I didn't try the radio. I would never have used it but he said in the OP that he removed it so I figured I would let him know.

As far as bluetooth goes, I'm not sure. I don't use bluetooth anything... Sorry I'm not of any help.

Bluetooth is only partially working at this time, and to be honest I'm not sure when it will be fixed. It's a common problem with 2.3 on the OV, especially with the CM7 framework, it's quite the bugger.

I believe Blarfie added the ext3 support today, so now we have ext2/3/4, hopefully DT's a2sd will work with the next build. I'm compiling it now, but I won't have time to test, I really need some sleep

The FM radio app is a WIP, we aren't sure if the radio in the OV can be reconfigured programatically, you can uninstall it if you like.

(I hate being a "Nuub" sometimes) Maybe it's something I'm not doing right or what I don't really know, but when I plug the phone into the computer via the USB cable and scroll through the settings I still can't find the USB mass storage. And it won't pop up a window on my computer. Also in the past with the other ROM's the toggle that I can put up as a Widget for the USB Mass Storage has worked. But even with this Build I still get "your device does not support direct control of a USB" whenever I try to enable the toggle. Could you maybe point out the obvious to me,for it has escaped my attention again....Thanks JerryScript for all the outstanding work and support on this incredible ROM.

When you plug the phone into USB, if the popup for mass storage doesn't automatically appear, go into settings>>applications>>development and toggle USB debuggin on/off. That should make the mass storage screen appear. If not, something went wrong when flashing the ROM, try a reflash.

Wow! I guess this is what happens when I don't check the forums in a couple days. GREAT Job Jerry (and anyone else who helped)! I am downloading the ROM as we speak, and I cannot wait to test it! From what I've heard this is a great rom! I will definitely test it extensively and give you any reports, and bugs, or anything I find with it. Thumbs up to you!

This ROM is awesome! Disabling data throughout the day (and turning it on every couple of hours to check email or reddit) and I'm currently at 15h46m with 42% battery left. Much better than my previous ROM.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone!

Blarfie, the kernel dev, is taking the weekend off. Please test over the weekend and post any bugs you may find so we can get to work on them next week.

note- I just added a link to a Theme Changer compatible version of the Green Machine theme, so you can try it out, and switch back if you don't like it without flashing anything.

LOL, that's the whole point, this is CM7 working branch, not the stable release branch. We are keeping this as close to CM7 source as possible till all the bugs are worked out, then I will begin making changes to suit the community.

Thanks for the compliments on the work, Blarf is a good dev and deserves all the credit! I just compile and theme his repo till all is stable.

BTW- the repo is open source, anyone is welcome to compile it and create your own ROM!

BTW- the repo is open source, anyone is welcome to compile it and create your own ROM!

I agree Nascar2428, I like the whole open source thing and what it represents... allowing great minds (Jerry, Blarfie and the like) to create a great ROM even when it's a WIP.
I would love to learn and build my own ROM. If I don't get back to work soon and wife permitting (honey-do list), I might start researching on it. Or at least getting in the kitchen to cook something up!!

Just downloaded and installed!

Edit: Very Snappy and more responsive than my previous roms. I'm glad i got my optimus around the time this ROM was created! Is the dial for the battery part of the green machine theme or is there a different way to get it?

Once the major functions are stable, I'll probably release a slimmed down version. For now, it's kinda risky making changes to commits before you even know if they work for everyone. That and Blarf wants to keep this build as close to CM7 source as possible.

I agree, and thanks! I really hope to see a bunch of ROMs developed from Blarf's repository. It's only been out a few weeks now, and already we have ROMs for the Optimus V and Optimus S, and new kernels for both as well. There are commits being made to support the M and C models as well, hopefully Blarf will have a repository with branches for every one of the Optimus line.

Default groove IP working?

I just flashed this ROM and i couldn't be happier! But i also just bought grooveIP and it doesn't seem to be working ( keeps disconnecting right after I answer the call or the other person ansers my call). I was just wondering if this is an isolated issue or if anyone else is having trouble with groove IP on this ROM.

Thanks again for all the hard work in getting this ROM working!

You are not alone, I am checking into the GrooveIP issue, and have reached out to their dev to see what's going on.

New build is up, 07252011 with new kernel r1.

Has anyone else tried running netflix with this ROM? I have tried running 1.3(havent really noticed the audio sync issue that much) and when I click on a movie or show to watch it goes to load and then go back to the main netflix screen

Edit: i am testing 1.2.2 to see if it is the 1.3 version or something else
Edit #2: Just installed 1.2.2 and tested with the first thing that popped and it worked! Must have just been the 1.3 version.

For anyone that has this ROM and wants netflix just download 1.2.2 from the post in the general section of the optimus V forum. It works perfectly and without a green bar!!

there is a posting in the general section of this phones forums with a link to install netflix. 1.2.2 has a green bar at the top and 1.3 has no green bar but has a known audio sync issue

Netflix 1.2.2 doesn't have the green bar on CM7 ROMs like this one.
