Some say his droppings have been found as far north as York. And that he has a full size tattoo of his face, on his face. All we know is, he's called the Stig!
I've not heard of Orange releasing Froyo for the OSF. If they did it would be smothered in bloatware and horrid anyway no doubt.
Hi - just picked up an Orange San Francisco and checked on the update to 2.2. The staff at the shop didn't seem to think there was going to be one anytime soon...
That said (and i'm new to this...steep learning curve I think), does it make a difference if you unlock your handset and use some other provider/carrier? That was going to be my plan seeing as I'm on PAYG and the data allowance is pretty low with Orange.
Is it easier to upgrade to 2.2 (or newer) and get rid of the 'bloatware' everyone's mentioned if the phone's unlocked?
hi im a bit of a noob when it comes to this. can some one give me precise instructions on hiw ti get 2.2 on my gen 1
There is no official 2.2 update for the San Francisco.
There are several Gingerbread (2.3) ROMs, including ones based off ROMs for ZTE devices released elsewhere, and also CyanogenMod (2.3.7).
You need to update to Gen 2 however.
Ok so how do i update my gen 1 to a gen 2 ,... then how do i update. sorry like i said im a newbie to all this roms and stuff. don't particualy want t screw my phone up either hence why im asking

If you are signed to Google it is unless you disabled it. Settings>Accounts & Sync.
Regarding TPT, I'd go for the 160MB system for CyanogenMod, the larger one otherwise.

One thing i have noticed though is it seems to drain my battery life quite considerably compared from when I had the original gen 1 on thereconfused:.. Any way round this?

Battery life was fine for me on CM 7.1+.
Go to Settings>About>Battery Use.
I'd say its just the phone needs time to build up new battery stats.

Its not unusual considering it doesn't understand the battery completely yet Give it a few days to build up stats again

Yup, but give it a few months. Also its the first Android upgrade in a while that increases resource requirements.
I've tried to go from Gen1 to Gen2 using the method from the first link, though I think I've messed it up.
I downloaded the first custom rom version, copied to sdcard, unzipped it, powered off the device and restarted while holding menu and volume up at the same time. Green text appeared before I entered ClockworkMod. I then chose to wipe data/factory reset, before attempting to install zip from sdcard. This, however, did not work. This is what it says when I try:
