Default app settings lost after power off.

Hi,

I have a ZTE blade 1, with android 2.3.5.
I have set up various apps as defaults for various functions, e.g. pansi sms for messaging.
However, whenever I turn my phone off, all these apps are no longer connected to the functions and I have to choose my apps for each function again.
Is there a way of making these selections stick?

I'm offline this weekend and will check back Sunday.
