Default Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Nexus Prime on Orange UK

I'm desperately hoping this phone is taken up by Orange. They've not taken on the Nexus One or the Nexus S directly and it'd be a disappointment to not take on the GNex. So any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

I rang up Orange today, and the woman I spoke to said the GNex was not on their system at all so far

I doubt they'll do it, but I have nothing to base that on.

A few of my mates have the Nexus S and they're on Orange, but most got theirs via Carphone Warehouse or bought outright.

I'm due an upgrade at the end of January so hopefully there'll be a few more handsets with ICS out by then (I do really like the look of the Galaxy Nexus though.)

Any special reason why you want Orange to take the phone on? I wanted to have a DHD on O2 (as I'd been a longstanding O2 customer) and, when I changed to the DHD, I was told that they (O2) didn't have (or have any plans to have) the model on their network.

I realise that I could have got a DHD on O2 by going through Carphone Warehouse (or similar), but I didn't want to go through someone like that, but go direct through a network provider... have you considered trying that?

I ended up going with Orange, as my wife is on Orange, so wasn't too bothered.

I've been with Orange for over 5 years now, and my contracts have gotten better and better due to loyalty. Their service is brilliant, and their Orange Care policy has a good price and is second to none IMO. To boot my girlfriend is on Orange and we have 'Magic Numbers' to each other. Moving to another network, I won't get anywhere near as much as I currently have with Orange. And I did think about going through Carphone Warehouse but I'd much rather go with Orange. I'll have to wait and see...

I'm a VIP customer of Orange. Spoke to their executive team today and drilled them on the Galaxy Nexus. Just to confirm, yes they will have it. In November (sometime in November).

My guy's keeping an eye on it. When it is I'll aim to post here ASAP!

Would this be such a great phone on orange? Does orange offer HSPA+? Would three be a better choice?

Customer service wise, Three are terrible. Along with plusnet, they are one of the few companies that I refuse to have anything to do with, my experiences with them were that bad.

Orange might be a bit slower at the moment, but they're about to start using T-Mobiles 3G/H signal and I believe T-Mobile share their signal with Three?

Could be wrong though and other folks experiences with 3 may be different of course.

I've read online that Orange and T-mobile won't be supporting the Galaxy Nexus, and have been told that by the upgrade team too. Surprising since I could get one on the Orange network via Carphone warehouse or Dial a phone etc. My upgrade is due so I'll sit tight for a few weeks and see what happens. Dying to know too if it will arrive as I do want my Ice Cream sandwich!

I believe three don't share tmobiles network - more like, tmobile and three share the same network which is operated by another company.

I know three support HSPA+, but struggling to find any evidence about Orange .

Also, in relation to orange and tmobile sharing their network, i am aware that they are sharing their 3G network, but would HSPA+ count as 4G? and as such fall outside this partnership.

I am aware of three poor customer service, although orange aren't great either, but is it worth getting it on orange if it cant access a hspa+ network?

Finally, as orange are saying they aren't stocking the phone, is this a sign that orange doesn't support HSPA+?

There's a little info on the sharing thing here. If that is to be believed it looks as though 3/TMob don't share the network, but they are part of a consortium that maintain the network (MBNL)?

The Atrix is 4G and Orange stocked that so I don't think that can be classed as sign that they're not supporting HSPA+

Might be worth giving them a call though, get a definitive answer.

Lol - now there's a surprise... a phone company who can't tell a customer what time frame they intend on doing something!!

H does me for the moment anyway (more is always nice though). It's a shame they couldn't give a proper time frame.

Thanks for checking.

hi guys - just registered with the forum as i am looking for some more info on whether orange are officially stocking the nexus directly from their stores / website?

from what i have found so far - its looking like they are not?

but there is a post above that says 'I'm a VIP customer of Orange. Spoke to their executive team today and drilled them on the Galaxy Nexus. Just to confirm, yes they will have it. In November (sometime in November).'

when other posts say they wont get it.

i rang up orange on 150 but they didnt have a clue - same as the shops which i rang, and the phone wasnt 'on their list' - pretty useless information giving skills tbh.

does anyone have anymore info on this?

thanks!!!

Welcome to the forums!

Can't really tell I'm afraid... I've seen conflicting info (as you have said)... does it have to be Orange that you go with or would you go with Orange through Carphone Warehouse (as they usually do any phone on any network)?

This sounds EXACTLY like when I wanted the Desire HD on O2... ended up leaving (after being a long time customer with O2), as I didn't want to go through Carphone Warehouse.

thing is i can get a 25% perks discount if i go into an orange shop and take the phone on contract there.

do any other phone supplies who do the nexus, or even any phone shops - do a similar discount?

the perks discount is for people who work for universities, nhs, gov't etc.

My wife works for the NHS and she gets a discount... I even get it because she works for the NHS - guess that there really are perks to being married!! Thought I'd mention that, as you may be able to get the discount for your other half/any kids you have.

Worth checking with the carriers - guessing you're in the UK... why not pop in to a few stores over the weekend... you know... hit up people like O2, T-Mobile, etc? Be worth knowing if they do it too!!

EDIT - don't go out of your way... only meant check if you're passing a shop... didn't mean to sound too cheeky!!

Orange will most definitely be supporting the Nexus. I've been on the phone almost every day with them.
The news is this....
They are making sure that the phone is compatible with their network prior to releasing it. Hopefully this doesn't mean that they are putting their usual rubbish software and themes on it.
To be honest, I'm thinking of upgrading to a different phone (maybe the Lumia with the free XBox) and then immediately selling both to help fund buying the Nexus from Amazon or somewhere like that.
I'd rather have a proper untouched Nexus than a Nexus with a silly orange logo on it. The funny thing is, one of the guys I spoke to at Orange said the Nexus wasn't as good as the Sensation (the first one). I actually laughed at him down the phone.

ah good this is great news - can get the perks discount in an orange shop... when it reaches one eventually.

only downside is the mention of it being polluted with orange software etc etc - would this not be the case for any carrier who does the nexus - or is the whole point of the ICS that its meant to be untouched by any extra carrier baggage?

cash back......i'm available for an upgrade form the 22nd of november.

will it have the daft orange square on the back cover?

will it have a shitty boot animation?

will it have pointless orange apps?

more than likely.

But you are able to haggle a good deal with customer retention's though. Just make sure you have a look around and see what everyone else is offering for the Gnex.

3 seem to have some good deals.

Text 500. 24 month 500 mins 5,000 texts 1GB internet 34pm

Text 500 All-you-can-eat. 24 month 500 mins 5,000 texts All-you-can-eat 37pm

The One Plan. 24 month 2,000 minutes 5,000 texts 5,000 3-2-3 mins All-you-can-eat data 40pm

Would be good to get a contract under 30 per month with 1gb of data.

Just having a look over the Orange Features and Spec page for the Gnex,

Its showing Orange services - Orange Downloads and Mobile TV with a big X next to them, hopefully this means no crapwear.

Probably wrong though, I can dream.

It'll probably have Orange Wednesday and the Your Orange app on there, but I think (hope) it will be as bloat free as possible. I know Verizon's variant in the States is supposed to have minimal bloatware on there and they're supposed to fill their phones up with tripe.

If I do end up getting it, I'll be getting a case too so the Orange logo on the back won't bother me.

do phones usually hit the actual retail shops at the same time they go live on the website shop? (as in official orange website to official orange shop on the high st)

also a slight hi-jack on the thread topic but here goes (if there is a better place to put these questions let me know):

i was doing a bit of research on the nexus and looking at the reviews. its not getting as high a score as i would have thought - mostly 4 out of 5 on review sites.

it seems that the potentially poor camera compared to other phones and the lack of flash (for now) are quite annoying aspects for a supposedly top end phone.

also lack of an sd card expansion cud be an issue and only 5 homescreens? (havnt owned a modern touch screen mobile before so im not sure this would be a problem for me)

the battery life is also mentioned but i am taking that as normal for phones with a massive screen?

so because of this i am thinking of just getting an s2 instead - any opinions on the matter?

the s2 is getting ICS in the new year but not the vanilla version, as far as i have read.

I spoke with Orange customer services today who confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus is on their system and showing that it's due to be released in 'end November'. There are only 10 days left in November, so I would think it will be sometime soon.

The guy checked stock, but they weren't showing any stock, so couldn't give more of an update on that.

He also confirmed that he had someone looking for this phone yesterday and I believe it didn't say that it was coming yesterday, so perhaps their system has been updated overnight/this morning.

Hope this helps.

PS anyone got any idea what 3 customer service/reception is like?

I got my current handset in an Orange shop before it had been announced on line. It could differ for each phone though.

it seems that the potentially poor camera compared to other phones and the lack of flash (for now) are quite annoying aspects for a supposedly top end phone.

also lack of an sd card expansion cud be an issue and only 5 homescreens? (havnt owned a modern touch screen mobile before so im not sure this would be a problem for me)

the battery life is also mentioned but i am taking that as normal for phones with a massive screen?
To be honest, the camera on most modern phones isn't great, but I was under the impression it wasn't meant to be that bad? I'll need to do a little more reading I think!

16GB should be fine for the internal memory, just copy stuff to your PC when you don't need it on the phone any more.

5 homescreens won't be an issue, I found when I was using Sense on my Desire HD, the 7 it provided was way too much. I currently use 5 and I struggle to think of stuff to put on the 5th.

It's hard to comment on battery life when you've just received a phone. I've found that battery life is generally very poor on most handsets for the first 10 or so days (until the battery/phone has settled) so it's not really fair to comment on battery life yet.

My mother has an S2, it's her first smartphone. She thinks it's wonderful, I was am little bit "meh". There is no denying the speed, it's slick and the screen is lovely. It just felt cheap and plasticy and I'm not really a fan of Samsungs Touchwiz overlay. It's received all those rave reviews for a reason though so it must be a very good phone.

Reception is good, my Mrs was with them for 1 contract. Customer service wise, it's probably best we pass on that.

Apologies, if that came across somewhat disjointed.

Default Nexus update

I have spoken to Orange everyday since last week and as of today morning, the Galaxy Nexus is still not in stock.

They didn't confirm whether they will be releasing it or not and in all honesty they had no clue about the phone either. They just go by their stock system and there was no update at all.

I spoke to someone last Friday and they told me that Orange to have it in the warehouses, but the phone is still in the testing phase.

Maybe they are testing to see that phantom volume drop which has been encountered with the earlier versions of this phone. What do you reckon?

I'm due for an upgrade tomorrow so I doubt I can get the Nexus now

They are testing it with their crapware to make sure it gets in the way and so no one will use.

I want to talk to the person at the big O that decides they should keep loading that crap on and just ask them, why?

Just out of interest, does anybody use any of them?

IRaja, you can still upgrade through Carphone Warehouse or someone like that. Same number, keep all your magic numbers just take a new contract. It might not be as good as going through customer retentions. you pays your money, you takes your chance.

I don't use any of them at all and it's a waste of time and space!

Since I am on a business account, I have to upgrade with Orange directly unfortunately. Worst case scenario is getting an upgrade for a high value phone, selling it, then getting the nexus offline....but that might cost! Really annoying they can't even give a date, or even a range!

It seems i'm not the only one desperate for this handset on Orange! I've been receiving calls every day for the past 2 weeks from Orange Loyalty, and for the first week I was told different stories; "it's in testing", "we're not getting it", "we are getting it" .etc.

However in the past week, things seem to be looking up and I was told categorically by Loyalty that it is in fact imminent. To underline this, I spoke with someone who had no idea what a Galaxy Nexus was so I was put on with the Loyalty Manager who confirmed they were to be getting the phone in 'late November....in the next week or so."

The Orange help page confirms this (thanks for this rmcdowell):

Orange now have a page up outlining specs for the Galaxy Nexus
IRaja, you'll still be able to upgrade even if your contract runs over. I'm 3 weeks out of contract, it just stays on a monthly rollover.

I'm also in the same position and the above info is very re-assuring, thanks.

I wouldn't read much into the help pages though as the SE Arc S has been on there for months and they still don't stock it!

I really hope Orange gets the Galaxy Nexus. Cause right now I have my mine through phones4u and the swappables aren't working because they are not currently supported yet.

I was in Phones4U today and had a play about. Whilst ICS looks and feels awesome, the phone itself has a typical plasticky Samsung feel too it and I left feeling a little underwhelmed and disappointed.

To be honest... that's what I was expecting when I saw that it was a Samsung.

I think that, by the time I can get a new contract phone (2013), there will be enough devices out there that run ICS (or even the next version of Android) for me to have plenty of choice.

I spoke to Orange again today and still they said they are not sure if they will release it or not as it solely depends on the testing. They said they test the phones intensively which is why Orange release phones later than other networks.

If it fails the test, then they won't release it. If it passes the test, they will release it. I was also informed testing can take up to 60 days for phones.

Furthermore, they said when the Nexus does release, there will be little to bargain with as the phone is brand new and over 500 offline. Therefore the bandings will be the same as Iphones basically. Bottom line is that you would have to fork out a lot of money.

I would say a Samsung S2 would be better value for money now as it is tried and tested, as well as Samsung confirming that the S2 will release the ICS very soon! What are your thoughts??

I'd prefer to wait and see what Orange actually do. They are plugging the S2
heavily at the minute which may explain in part why some people are getting negative vibes from them on the nexus.

I would be very surprised if Orange were in such early stages of testing the handset to the extent that they had no idea if they would stock it or not. Otherwise why would they have a help and specs page on their website?

The tarriff/handset structure wont be aka the iphone4, you can get a panther 31 24 month tarriff plus handset for 59 with several companies; if Orange were to offer a completely different and more expensive pricing structure if buying from them direct this would be confusing and make little sense. I suspect they are just trying to get you to take a Samsung S2 out now instead! I have considered this option but Im told Ice Cream Sandwich on the S2 once the networks have tested and tweaked it is at least 6 months away.

The Sensation XE has been released on Orange and they are charging quite a lot for that. Because I'm only a band 3 user, 27 pm, I would have to fork out 40 pm to get a free phone. I'm guessing The nexus will be about the same banding, if not slightly more. Ridiculous when you look at what Phone4U and Carphone Warehouse are offering.

I also taked to a very helpful bloke from 3, I pretty much had to force him form giving me one (?!?). He wanted to give me one there and then, fully working and unlocked then not start my contract for 1 month, so I could use my orange sim until 3 sim arrived. I woud have a period, about 3 weeks where I could have 2 phone contracts. Orange would only lower mine by 5 pm month. 3 are doing a free phone on a 34 pm contract - 500mins - 3000 txt - 1gb.

Hopefully this means that Orange will get the newly flashed devices with out the volume issue.

Did you go for it with Three? You could always tell Orange that you can get a much better deal elsewhere and that, although you don't want to move, you feel that the deal is too good to walk away from!?!

I didn't take the 3 contract, I've heard mixed reviews on 3's 3g reception. Although it couldn't really be any worse than Oj's.

Tried that angle with orange as well, a lot of it depends on who you talk to on the other end. One bloke at would knock some off the ex contract, called back later and taked to someone else who wouldn't budge.

I know what you mean about Three... if you get back on the phone to Orange, ask to speak to a manager... I think that their customer retentions managers would bend over backwards to keep people. How long have you been with Orange?

Thats a good idea about talking to the organ grinders rather than the monkeys, sorry if anybody works for orange call centers around here.

I've not been with Oj for to long, just 2 pervious contracts. Enough to have quite a few magic numbers though.

A couple of years... that's enough for them to want to keep you - not like you only joined them last year!

All about organ grinders, not monkeys - they also have the power to grant more wishes!!

Wink Nexus galaxy is coming to orange

I was in the Milton Keynes lounge store on Saturday 26th November 2011.
I asked the salesman about nexus galaxy and he confirmed that Orange are definitely getting the phone.

The Samsung Note (cross between an S2 and a tablet) will appear first, then the nexus galaxy.

I asked him if that was rumour or fact and he stated that it is fact.
He went to a training / managers update session (whatever orange call them) and handled a samsung note and also the galaxy nexus.

According to him, the time-frame he'd been given as a guide was - it will be "in store" just before or just after Christmas.

I was pleased as I've also been hoping Orange will get the phone.
Obviously, until we see it in the "coming soon list", in-store or in the web shop I'd hold off the celebrations.....
