Wifi - connection issue - is it carrier/sim related?

Just got a new HTC phone for my mother and am having an issue getting internet connectivity over Wifi. Can connect to wifi and even navigate to router's homepage on the phone. But the phone browser and all apps say no connect to internet.

Am wondering if this is related to carrier or using old sim card. Any ideas?

Just a quick question.. which HTC phone have you got? There are phone specific sub-forums... click here and scroll down until you see your device... other users of the same device would be best to offer you answers (you'll be more likely to get a quick answer in there too!

Thanks. It's a HTC Salsa. I also should have said that I bought it in Singapore but the shop assistant assured me that it would work fine in the UK.

Just for reference I narrowed down the issue to our router. Seems androids have an issue with older routers with WMM enabled. Unfortunately I wasn't able to disable this so had to get a new router but the problem has been resolved nonetheless.
