Default iPhone 4: AT&T isn't the only thing stopping people from making calls

iPhone 4 Loses Reception When You Hold It By The Antenna Band?

I think the new iPhone looks great, but all I can say is "Ouch?"

Default Dont think your evo is the only one with problems. Iphone 4 has major signal issues.

I guess this phone is awesome as long as you dont pick it up to use it or you like yellow screens.

You have got to be kidding me. If you thought finding an Evo in stock was hard, the poor schmucks that have to wait for a replacement iPhone 4 are going to stroke out.

I may be losing it, but i swear i see some light bleed from the bottom of the iPhone in one of those pictures (bottom left).

We're gonna wait in line for three hours to get an Iphone 4 in the morning. I'll just play with my Evo during the wait. 3 hours should be plenty of time to kill the battery, haha

All you people who consistently post comparisons with or about the iPhone, reaffirm the opinion that the iPhone is the phone to compare all other phone to... Is that really necessary? EVERY phone can have faults... especially the first generation of new tech... so whatever.

And when all the Evo's faults came out, people use that to say it's a crap phone which we know it isn't. The iphone is still a nice phone regardless... just like the Evo is still a nice phone despite all the faults that have been brought to light.

Default iPhone 4 Loses Reception When You Hold It By The Antenna Band?

Edit: My post was originally a thread but it got moved into here...

iPhone 4 Loses Reception When You Hold It By The Antenna Band?

Thought some of you might be interested in whats going on with the not yet released iphone 4. I guess reality set in a bit early??

Just check out the comments!

"sh***y antenna, sh***y screens. man, i'm really regretting shelling out that $450 now."

"While this may not be affecting calls, it certainly affects data. I can easily reproduce this on Speedtest and when trying to load webpages. The progress bar in Safari comes to a dead halt until I let get of the phone. I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that nothing will/can be done apart from getting a case or learning to hold your phone a certain way"

Also, some are reporting issues with the screen on their phone as well:

iPhone 4 Displays Have Yellow Discoloration Bands and Spots

It'll be interesting to see how all this plays out. Its obviously to early to make any kind of judgments because the phone hasn't even been released yet but still interesting none the less

Default See everyone has problems

So we all know our evos have problems. But look the iPhone4 has problems already. They can't even make phone calls with their left hand...calls drooping left and right...well more so left. I am happy with the Evo, when I first got it I looked for all its problems and read all the reports...but my battery life is decent enuff and this phone does everything and its quick. It has its issues...but atleast I can make a phone call with any hand ha!

I'm glad that you brought this up. So many people were ragging on the Evo and saying how other phones were better.

New products have to be Cappa-tested in the real world and when they are, flaws are discovered (and hopefully fixed).

I came here today because I am also having some annoying problems with my camera blacking out here and there. And some other little problems and glitches. I only have the phone 3 days I had to pull the battery about six times. Since sprint has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee I plan on giving the phone a chance. Because I also have a storm and this phone blows it away in so many departments I really hope they can sort out the BS we are dealing with.

What problems with the EVO? My EVO has no issues, works great.

I keep hearing complaints of light leaking, screen not working right, grounding issues, etc, I sure have none of these issues.

I think everyone just needs to keep in mind that no phone will ever be perfect.

Sure, the EVO does a good job with the everyday tasks: calls, messaging, navigation, etc... and with the Flash 10.1 APK installed, almost every website flash or not renders flawlessly in the stock Browser. Lets not bring up the stellar media playback, YouTube HQ, the pretty darn decent 8MP camera (not blow me away great, but for snapshots, one of the fastest and most usable cell cams in history), plus HTC did a great job at making Sense fast on this thing. Sure 2.2 will be faster, but for now, I am totally enjoying this piece of hardware (and I have a 0002 model).

Now if you look at the bigger picture, everyone seems to be hitting the build quality/pricing and software limitations: 30 fps on the graphics (do we really need more?), light leak on the 0002 model (really, light leak? Go get a generation one BB Storm and tell me about 'light leak'), the fact that HTC went to another party for screens when they couldn't get more of the first one (which one really looks better by the way?), and lastly the $10 charge? I'm using 4 times the data I did on my Moment and I haven't even tethered yet! $10 a month is pretty cheap in my book for not having to use my laptop because the browser is so good on this thing!

I personally don't wish bad technological luck on ANYONE. We pay a lot of $ for devices we hope to work and last. That does include iProducts.

With that being said, I'm taking a sick SICK pleasure in reading about the defects of the "best smartphone on the market right now" - source Engadget. It started with scratched back plating, to yellow spots/striping on the display, and now screen breaks (deliberate or not). Yes, you drop ANY phone, you're going to have problems if it hits just right at the right force.

Apple's marketing BS strikes again IMO, which is why I will never buy an Apple product. I went through 3 different iPods before concluding their designs may be 'different' and all, but their build quality - sucked. Each one of them, including the shuffle, broke in someway. Even their replacement devices broke in short time.

I'll stick with my Zune HD and EVO. Which, the two mate VERY well together with a Zune Pass and Hotspot.

I never had a I-phone. I was always a blackberry guy. I still use my blackberry for business. But that is because of the carrier not the phone itself. I would say (not owning a I phone to compare) this is the best personal phone I have owned even with the camera problem I am having. I still don't trust it as my work horse phone but you should know the first generation of any electronic product makes you the unpaid beta tester. If anyone is having a camera issue where you get a black screen and you need to reboot, If you know this was posted already or you found a way to avoid the problem please post a link. I'm not lazy to look myself lol, I just got here and I like to read up on the recent posts first.

This is a huge mistake. How could they not find this problem in quality control. They are going to have to replace hundres of thousands of phones. Won't affect anyone who uses a case though.

I never understood the big deal about the iCrap 4. Let me see, ummmm, an all glass phone with the antennae on the outside touching your hand. Simply Genious! I hope that guy got a big raise because that's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Imagine not only worrying about scratching the screen but now the whole damn phone. Worst part is Jobs approved it.

@ZCarman -- I'll be honest, I am very curious to see how the WinMo7 product ends up, but MS is also far behind the Android/Apple OS curve. I had a WinMo6.5 device before I got the Hero. I swore by it. Though when I saw how absolutely smooth the Android OS just WORKED, I hesitantly hopped on board. Not having to reboot my phone like any other Windows OS was a pure joy. Leaving the phone on for weeks at a time without even REALIZING weeks had gone by, was a pure joy.

I'm not jumping the Android ship though in the foreseeable future.

In the article they speculate that Apple may have known about the problem and that's why they are making their own first party case rather than just letting the 3rd parties take care of it.

Just making a slight correction here...

Light leak doesn't have anything to do with the current hardware versions that are out. I have 0003 and have pretty bad light leak.

All electronics have some kind of problems when first released. That's what people were trying to tell all those who started "bye bye evo, I'm going to apple, their QC is amazing!!" when the iphone hadn't even been released yet... The evo was perfect before it came out too lol.

So...I read this story this morning;

FOXNews.com - iPhone 4 Review: The Best Smartphone Ever?

I wonder what he has to say now? And I wonder if he posts on this board as ApplePwnz?

The worst possible thing that could happen is that iP4 doesn't do everything possible to overcome ATT signal issues. There are going to be unfathomable consequences if this is the case. It will start off with fingerpointing, then go to "we'll fix this", and end up with a deconstructing of the Apple-ATT relationship. This is THE straw.

Also for those that love the simple iPhone OS....they have to get an iPhone and ATT. If you love android we have woo many options and every carrier to chose from. Soon all 4 carriers will have a top of the line android device... I love Sprint....I love android...But if my Evo doesn't meet ny standards....well I'm off to the next one. That's one good thing about android... you can never point all the fingers at them...so for me Android will always be better than iPhone, we will always have more choices...isn't that why most if us are here....we can do whatever, with whomever, with anything we want.... its great... can't wait for Froyo... and gingerbread should ....well I'm not even gonna go there.

This is a real shame. I'm not an Apple fanboy by any means. I have never owned an iPhone, but I do have a MacBook Pro (with Windows 7 as well as OS 10.6) and one of the things that drew me to it was unparalleled build quality. I mean you pay through the nose for it, but the new unibody MBPs are beautifully engineered pieces of hardware.

I would say as a general rule, the quality of the hardware Apple makes is top notch. If the iPhone 4 really does have issues like that it's pretty out of character.

Don't say stuff like that. It's easy to see what this is. It's not a problem with the phone. It only affects calls because they're trying to show us that we should talk in person more. I know I'm still getting mine, and I'll gladly accept this and rather than call, I'll talk in person like they're trying to show us to do. If that isn't it then why else would it only affect signal strength. Stop ripping on them.
