What a title for a first post, eh? Now I'm not typically one to stir the pot too much, but I sincerely hope that someone who reads this may know someone who should know about how wireless charging technology is going to be a pain in the butt for droids in the future if nothing is in the works.
That's an article only a few days old about how wireless charging will most likely become a part of iPhone technology within 2 years... Now I have faith that my HTC Incredible is going to continue to kick-ass for the next 2 years, but I have to say that even I have been seriously thinking about modding my phone to allow for wireless charging via Touchstone technology (Even though it will completely trash my warranty).
Whoever you may be, the "someone who knows someone who should know about this..." I sincerely hope you pass this info on right away... Wireless charging is right around the corner and I don't want to see any piece of handheld technology caught in the techno-graveyard in a few years because of too many wires, much less devices designed to run the Android OS.
Here's me crossing my fingers that someone in the know will get this tip soon and start revolutionizing our beloved droids if they aren't already.
em induction charging not new idea; I had an electric shaver that charged that way 10 years ago. Personally, I think a simple cord is easier to pack when travelling. I often play games on the phone while charging; try that with an induction charge pad.
I don't think wireless charging is a huge revolutionary thing, although if it shows up on an iPhone, it will probably blow up. But there have been cases and things for previous gens of iphone that let you wirelessly charge (PowerMat), and like someone else said, the PalmPre had that out of the box. I also like the cable, because it's easier to pack or just stick in your pocket, and it's hard to use your phone while it's charging on a mat. Anyways, I'm sure the Android handset developers know about wireless charging already, and if there's a big enough demand for it, it will show up. But it will probably just add extra cost onto the phone, and make it more expensive and probably a little heavier/bulkier since there will be more hadware involved inside of the phone.
I wonder if Apple will sue Philips because my Son***** toothbrush did that 10 years ago?
Wireless charger doesn't make me horny as much as it does others. I can use my phone while it's charging now, it would be exceedingly difficult with it flat on the charging surface.
Also if catastrophe strikes my current charger it's not a big deal to get a new one.

I'd only be interested if wireless charging is a 3 dimensional field compared to a pad. Some how make it so if your withing 10ft of a charging point your device will charge. if they can figure that out with out being harmful to anything then ill go for it. till then dont see a benefit.
Don't know why they call it wireless. You still need a cord and.a.base to lay the phone on. Just a fancy name for a dock. My thunderbolt already has this if i want it. Key words IF I WANT IT. Not paying almost a hundred clams for it to do something my cord does just fine.
Apple's approach only requires that your iDevice be within a certain proximity to the charging device, not in physical contact, as with the Touchdown charger.
So, you set up the Apple charger and you can put your iDevice just about anywhere for charging. The charging device is (or could be?) hidden in a closet and you set your phone on your desk, a cabinet, bookcase, whatever . . . and it will be charged.
As Bob previously noted; Wireless charging technology that's going to show up in the iPhone will probably be several steps ahead of Palm's (HP's) Touchstone and lightyears ahead of PowerMat. I doubt that the ability to use a cord will be canned in lieu of wireless charging, it'll just be an additional feature that comes with the package.
I hope a couple of droid makers will take heed of new charging technologies as those will probably be the ones that rise to the top of the heap when the iPhone releases their version of it. Wireless charging is a feature that hundreds of thousands of people don't even know they want yet. When they realize that it's a lot easier than fumbling with a cord every day, they'll start weighing other options.

I'll tell ya, Apple's proposed technique would be cool. When I enter the office, my phone starts charging. I would love to see it applied to the iPad and Laptop computer.
And electric shaver, too.
So what happens when it arrives and those tinfoil hat types start up like they did/do with the overhead power line issues? Cancer must certainly be the result of wireless charging, right?
Still a bit early to be specifying what the iPhone 6 will have, I don't really subsribe to the thought that the iPhone 6 will be next in line like the review site suggests. Lots of crazy stuff out there.
