Default Still having a problem with TTS

I've had a tablet now for about a week - my first experience of Android.

I posted earlier explaining that I could not change the default TTS engine used and unfortunately I have still not found an answer to the problem.

I have installed Ivona and also Svox and in the settings tried to change to one of these, but no luck.
When I tap on an alternative, the selection remains at the default Pico.

I cannot imagine why, but is it possible that the manufacturer may have disabled the ability to change, or am I missing some other possibility.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What tablet et are you using?

To try it for you I installed Ivona from Play Store on my Bionic phone under Jelly Bean.

I then went to System settings | Accessibility | Text-to-speech output and there were two items in the Preferred Engine list. I selected Ivone.

Is this what you did on your tablet?

That is exactly what I did on mine, but when I tap Ivona the tablet registers the tap (clicks), the description flashes, but the selection stays with Pico.

I have searched for the last 3 days, and cannot find any reference anywhere to anyone having this problem so I really am stumped.

What tablet are you using ... that is ... something lie "Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1". Someone could move your question into the appropriate forum or you could visit ... http://androidforums.com/ ... and look it up in the Tablet table (the second table).

Hi Thom.
It's an AMPE A10 (the link is in my previous answer, but here it is again - LINK )

It is also sold as a Sanei N10.

It's a good spec and works well - its quite fast and responsive, and the battery lasts a goo 6 hours plus - so apart from this TTS issue I'm quite pleased with it for the money.

The only thing I can suggest is that you contact the manufacturer and ask them the question.

Sorry.

Thanks for your efforts Thom.

I have dropped the supplier an e-mail - but suppliers in China do take their time responding so I'll wait patiently and see what comes back.

I've tried Ivona and SVox on a KIRF Galaxy Note and a Lenovo P700i. They don't work. Ivona has something about "Missing resource" and Svox just refuses to run completely, on both phones. No problem on a real Samsung though. The fake Galaxy Note didn't come with any TTS at all, and the Lenovo came with Pico, but only for Mandarin.

I don't think Shenzhen Ampe particularly cares or will be interested TBH.....that's how it is. I used to have an Ampe A76 tablet, and it was rather crap. Gave it away in the end, along with the phony Samsung.

Chinese Android strikes again.
