Default Stupid Is as Stupid Does

Florida Church Plans To Burn Qurans on Sept. 11 Anniversary

Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center, a church in Florida that pledges to "stand up for righteousness," is organizing an "International Burn a Koran Day" for the upcoming anniversary of Sept. 11.

In the past, the nondenominational church, which has "Islam is of the devil" signs displayed in its front lawn, has organized protests against Islam. "We feel, as Christians, one of our jobs is to warn," said Jones, author of Islam Is of the Devil. He hopes that the protests he organizes will offer Muslims a reason to convert. "In response to the posting of the event on Facebook a little more than a week ago, Jones said that people have been mailing Qurans to the church to burn," Religion News Service reported. "He said organizers got the idea, in part, from another Facebook page, called 'Everybody Draw Muhammad Day.'"

The church is also taking heat for planning an upcoming protest against homosexuality in Gainsville, Fla. ("Free speech is hated by homosexuals and they do not like to hear the truth about their perverted lifestyle," the church's website declares. "We are protesting our openly homosexual Mayor Aug. 2.")

Burning books, yeah, that's the answer...goes along with the name-calling practiced at this church. Kinda reminds me of...the Taliban.

Why would they burn them when there are people in the world in dire need of toilet paper? They can take the Bible and the Torah with them.

I normally am against destroying knowledge and have nothing against holy books. I would rather people find something more stupid to fight about so when I say "you're fighting about something stupid" I don't get "@*#^ HOW DARE YOU SAY MY RELIGION IS STUPID @#$*?!!! RAWWR!" I'm good with saying that, but then the argument would be about something else instead of their stupid behavior.

I'm not intolerant of religion, I just don't care about it. My religion is exactly that, mine. I am intolerant of violence/bigotry/etc in the name of religion.

Wow, i have to agree with hackr and wonder at the absolute stupidity of some people. It'd be interesting to see how they reacted to somebody burning a Bible right next to their Torah bonfire, not that I am condoning or not condoning the burning of either but you'd see quite a few hypocrites in just a few seconds time.

Extremists are never a good thing, whether their Jews, Muslims, Christians or anything else.

I know it's a bit different, but the building of a mosque over Ground Zero is the biggest slap in the face to those that died, those that rescued, and families of those that were killed.

This may or may not have anything to do with it, but when it comes to the mosque on GZ, I think it's a stupid idea. It is not a symbol of moving on. People can "move on" without building a mosque there.

And yeah, extremists would rejoice at this, because if my memory serves correctly, some or most Muslim extremists don't do this simply to kill. They want the world converted to Islam. There are plenty of instances in the UK (where I was born and raised) where there are constant conflicts between Muslims and everyone else.

"Death to extremists" is ironic, but there doesn't seem to be a way other than that to fix the issue. Talking to them will not fix anything since they don't want to talk.
