It is absolutely appalling that no body was willing to help.

Such a tragic incident.

What really disgusts me is the camera man tried to alert the train by taking the picture. Who does that? This guy obviously just wanted to sell the picture to the nypost for a quick buck.

Best part about the clown who took the picture and sold it to the NY Post paper is that when a woman approached him saying to help the guy on the track - he said "I'm not strong enough to lift him"

Some people in this world just don't deserve much of anything, including their own life.

By the way, let's not forget the freelance journalist who took video footage.

DC metro has quite a bit of issues too. We get the occasional suicide jumper but rarely anyone who's pushed.
Latest crime was some teens who brutally killed another over a Helly Hansen jacket. Sickening.

they should have those glass partitions between the train and the passengers, like what they have in Hong Kong, Singapore, and other places...

That would make a lot of sense. Only place I've seen them is at the little subway train at Dulles airport. (and I think Dallas/Ft Worth has them?)

I’ve been told there’s something good in everything, if you look hard enough, but I’ll be damned if I can see the good in this.

Maybe some barriers or other safety measures will be put into place because of this, saving some lives in the future.

Latest is the victim had a bottle of vodka in his pocket. The suspect says the victim was harassing him, and he pushed him away. Who knows the truth, but the suspect's life is changed forever as well, along with his family. Just a terrible incident all around.

Doubtful. One horrific incident isn't going to be enough for the MTA to consider such a drastic change in their operations.

Same here with DC.
I follow a couple Twitter accounts solely devoted to letting you know just how bad the system is. It's a crumbling system, albeit much newer than some of the major ones in the world (NYC, Paris, London etc). Escalators are always out of service. You can poopoo that but, we have some of the deepest tunnels of any system so humping up or down is a pain (especially on the elderly).
Our deepest is 196ft and only has elevator access. The second is 115ft. Supposedly takes 2min 45sec to ride (thanks Wiki).

I take the bus to and from work. Far more reliable.

New York Post's subway death photo stirs debate over journalistic ethics
As for Abbasi and his editors, their careers will forever be defined by a low point in American journalism.

It happened again:

Police: Mumbling woman pushes man to his death in front of subway train - CNN.com

Regarding the first case, I kind of ended up feeling bad for that photographer after seeing some interviews with him.

The woman was arrested by the police already. That man was just started his own business. I feel so bad for his family

Holy crap... again?!!

First, I found it extremely callous that Abbasi would take a photograph rather than try helping Han up off the tracks. Like a camera flash is going to give enough time to stop the train? No, he went into photo-journalism mode and opted to document the event rather than prevent it.

Second, a crazy woman mumbling about the platform... I steer clear of such people when they appear on the scene. If they don't walk away on their own accord, I walk away from them. You just don't know who is going to do what. I've seen nut jobs break into a rage of gibberish shouting at people nearby that have nothing to do with them. You don't know if these people are hallucinating. Suddenly they see you as their nemesis or as someone who had wronged them earlier in life, then they take their vengeance out on you.

Perhaps we need to blame the NY Post as well.

That is always a concern.

I wonder what I would do if I saw a little child crying in some dark corner of a shopping mall or in a public bathroom. You just never know what people will see, think or do when they discover a child crying and a scary old fart in the same restroom.

Not sure how much has changed. I am not really convinced we are worse today than in times past.

^ Actually, I think per capita we're doing better. But it's hard to see that when the media captures every nasty event like this with gusto.
