Are you saying the kids with the flag shirts were sent home because you believe they are white?

You do know Mexican is not a race, right?
Sounds like you are the one unsure of different races...since you are the one that is trying to make this racial. If you are done dodging, please answer my question: Please explain why the kids wearing clothing with the American flag were sent home.

I have no idea, but I'm sure it wasn't because of racism. You're making a charge...prove it.
For the record, I disagree with the kids being sent home. They have a right, albeit limited in a school, to their freedom of speech. Do I think they were being douche rockets for wearing the flags on Cinco de Mayo with most likely the intent of stirring shit up? Hell yea I do. I also think that's their right...as long as what they're wearing is not causing, nor is it likely to cause, a significant disruption to the school day or students' safety than it is within their 1st amendment rights.
From the school point of view, the administration made a poor decision. The principal assumed, wrongly in my opinion, that the students wearing the shirts would cause a disruption to the school day. To prevent this they made the "normal" call for the students to change/turn the shirts inside out - a reasonable request. The students did not comply, and were sent home. I disagree with this, but do understand it to an extent.
Schools have the right to limit speech (Tinker v Des Moines) if they feel that the speech will "materially and substantially interfere with the requirements of appropriate discipline in the operation of the school."
Anyway, Fenga Ppait...where are you seeing that "liberals" say that "American flag is racist"? Also, there's a typo in your title...should have an apostrophe.

Oh...*you* are the one who first brought up race in this thread with your remark..."Liberals say the American flag is racist."
I have no idea what you mean by your statement "unsure of different races." I'm fairly certain "race" isn't the issue.

The Hispanic kids were allowed to wear their Mexican flag attire for a FAKE holiday that is not even celebrated in Mexico except for a small area. The kids sporting American flag attire had their civil rights violated. According to libtard logic, that is racist. It is offensive. It is an outrage.
You probably can't understand that until the next time something comes up with a Hispanic on the short end of the stick, then the usual libtard rhetoric will spew forth.

See above. I'm taking a rule from the libtard playbook and reversing it.
Oh, and the thread title isn't mine. And you made a typo in my screen name.

I explained above why I said the racist attitudes of libtards played in this decision by the school. Add to that the school official that sent the kids home is Hispanic. Reverse the situation and I am certain you would be charging a white school official sending Hispanic kids home as racist.
I have no idea what you mean by your statement "unsure of different races." I'm fairly certain "race" isn't the issue.
I'm fairly certain you are wrong. In the above video the teacher praised a kid drawing Obama but told the little girl that her drawing of the American flag was offensive. Since libtards love to charge those that disagree with or criticize Obama as racist, this teacher is also racist. And ignorant. These kinds of people should not be teaching children in any capacity.

I'm underwhelmed by your rage and your lack of knowledge of racism and improper use of the term.
Are you aware that the terms "Hispanic," "Latino," and even "Mexican" do not denote a race?
Are you aware that the Europeans who "discovered" North America were Hispanics?
See above. I'm taking a rule from the libtard playbook and reversing it.

My apologies for the typo and not realizing you didn't title the thread. Sorry about that.
I'd ask that you stop referring to liberals as "libtards" as you have done multiple times in various threads. Not only is it offensive, but it really cheapens your arguments when it becomes clear that you need to resort to tossing out names. I'm all for discourse with adults, but I don't enjoy trying to have a substantive debate with someone who resorts to childish insults and arguments that are not hashed out.
To address your claims...Cinco de Mayo is no more a fake holiday than any other holiday that is celebrated here or in Mexico. Although it receives wider celebration in the US it shouldn't diminish one culture wanting to celebrate a proud moment in their history. A day of pride for Mexican culture is not, nor should it be offensive. Just like wearing an American flag t-shirt and showing pride for American culture is not, nor should it be offensive.
There is certainly an argument to be had about whether or not the students wearing the American flag t-shirts had their 1st amendment rights violated. As I clearly outlined in my first post, schools have different issues that they need to contend with. Although I feel that the school was wrong, I can understand where they were coming from. I'm sure you are rational enough to understand as well.
Can you please explain what you mean when you say "by libtard logic" (liberal logic?) that the violation of their 1st amendment rights is "racist"? I do not follow.
I am left leaning - progressive, liberal even. I believe in gay marriage, I am pro-choice, I support health care reform, I believe that government's responsibility is to provide a safety net for the disadvantaged and less fortunate. However, make no mistake. I love this country. I have always loved this country. I am proud to be an American and I am proud to display the American flag. I am proud of our men and women in the armed forces and I feel blessed to live in the greatest nation on the face of the earth. Do not assume that I am some "soft libtard" that cries foul ever chance she gets.
Additionally - I just watched the Fox News clip. The poor girl had no reason to be told her flag was offensive and I hope the appropriate discipline action is taken toward the teacher in question. I don't know what the discipline should be, however. My question to you is this: How do you know the teacher is a "libtard" or "liberal" for that matter? It appears that you're assuming. Additionally, why do you again bring race into a discussion about a teacher inappropriately telling a young girl that her American flag drawing is offensive?
I gotta ask. How did "liberals" get dragged into this? I read the article. Liberals, blue, Democrats, whatevers were not mentioned. Some people would call me a "Liberal" (though I don't pigeon hole myself into a group), but I certainly don't consider the American flag as racist.
IMHO, I think people need to take a collective breath. Even if, and it did not seem like it, the students wearing the American flag clothings were trying to "instigate", who says any Mexican-American student has to be offended? And evidence hints that there wouldn't have been any trouble in the first place because the next day students had a peaceful march out of class as a protest for 90 minutes and everything went without incident.
The administrator over-reacted, probably because of the recent Immigration laws passed in Arizona. In the end, as a Vietnamese American I feel that I cannot force other people to not show their American pride just because it also happens to be a national holiday for my country of origin. I mean, for one: this IS this U.S. For another, there are probably dozens of national holidays of so many nations. Practically, we can't just expect everyone else to just hush up when it is not their national holiday day.
Anyways, I think people need to stop feeling like they are victims or every action is an attack against them. And the flip side, people need to stop generalizing and attacking people. i.e dragging liberals and race into this. Man, when did the words "Liberal" and "Conservative" become words said with such disgust and pretty much used as an insult??
As a nation and as her people, we gotta stop using what is different between us as a way to tear each other down. Division, anger and hatred is what that will destroy this great nation. Not some law or war...the name calling is an example of what that is tearing this nation apart. It saddens me greatly...

Seeing the video of the little girl, I think that teacher is completely wrong. It is a sad thing to see people burn the American flag or people that are offended by it like the teacher.
It is a sad fact, but there are those that live in this country that do dislike America. What makes America just an amazing country is that she will defend the rights and life of even those people that hate her. God Bless America for that.
But again. Where did you get "Liberals" from that video clip either??

Fenga Papit, your arguments will stand better stead if you do not resort to petty name calling. Thats the tactic of the immature who look for some other way to make their point.
Please cut it out in the future, for the sake of your own argument if nothing else, thanks.

Let me see if I understand this correctly....
I use a term that hurts the widdow feewings of some libs and I look bad....but a lib uses a vulgar gay sex reference for CONSERVATIVES and that is allowed? Must be allowed for libs to use VULGARITY - but their tender widdow feewings MUST be protected because my post above was edited and my example of hakr100 using this term was removed.
So here it is again -

Please answer honestly so I will know if this forum is just a circle jerk for libs.

Wait. How is "teabagging" a gay only thing??
And given that hakr100 erred, but as you yourself wrote, his words have been edited. Which means either moderators changed it or hakr100 changed it. If moderators changed it, that means they are not allowing the "Liberals" to post negative stuff as well. If hakr100 changed it, then that means he is apologetic enough to removed his own negative writings.
So far you haven't been apologetic in any way of your insults Fenga Papit.
The anger you seem to be so full of Fenga is not constructive. Even if another offends you or commits an act of wrong, in this case verbal wrong, what constructive good is it to be so angry yourself?

We don't give a fig about "libs", "conservatives" or any other term you care to use as they are meaningless to those of us beyond the US borders.... unless they're considered likely to cause offence. In this case it did, just as the example you quote also did. It was dealt with, and if you don't wish to follow a similar path please abide by the Moderator's advice.

Resolved via PM, in the future please report posts you find offensive, and keep side arguments to PM, now lets get back on topic here ok, we don't want to ruin this thread..
Wohoo. Back on topic! I love the American flag. The original You Tube video brought a tear to my eye. I am a huge history buff and love the history of this nation.
Please please tell me how did Liberals get dragged into this though??
"Hooray for the American flag!" Was that the only purpose of this thread?
I guess so. I am not sure what the OP was intended for.
But the topic went off about how liberals think the American flag is racist because some student got kicked home because they were wearing American flag T-shirts.
Sadly, the guy dragging liberals into the conversation and insulting liberals never replied to my question as to where did he get the idea liberals hate think the American flag is racist...go figure. Too often no one actually sticks around to discuss the topic. Instead, there's just mud slinging, insults, name calling and that is it...

Perhaps they are channeling Beck, Limbaugh, Palin, Bachmann, who remind me of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but without revelations.
I love the American Flag too but what I don't love is how some people wrap themselves in it and use it as a vehicle to condemn those who may disagree with some policy of our government, be that government conservative or liberal.
Wow, you wave a flag and.that makes you patriotic.
Yeah, for some people that's how they express their love for their country. Don't suppose you saw the tv images from the English coast this week as people marked the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation? Lots of Union flags on show, 'cos this little country is rather proud of the way ordinary people stepped up to the plate when disaster loomed.

Mr. Moderator
It's one thing to be proud of your country in an Athletic competition but to wave the flag and somehow think that that makes your political beliefs sound is not the case. The people who are condemning our government because they don't like the current policies are condemning the United States of America, for when did this country become separate from it's government.
Most truly patriotic people don't have to wrap themselves in the flag to convince anyone that they are partriotic.
How many of you believe that the wars that we are currently involved in are the right thing. If you do, then why don't you sign up and put your actions where your mouths are. I did my time.

If you served in the military then believe me, you have my respect.
I agree that waving a flag does not make your beliefs fact.
I think that many of our actions overseas are unjustified and were bad decisions. However I disagree that condemning policy is to condemn the United States. I believe that we live in a great country, I want to see this country successful in all its endeavors. I think this is what makes a patriot. You can have love of country and still disagree with some of its policies, at least in my opinion.
"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism"
-idk. Some believe that it is from Jefferson however there is evidence to suggest this is not the case.

U.S. Marine Corps '71 to '73. Did not serve in Viet Nam. Would have if they had sent me. While in boot camp at Paris Island, they pulled the last the Marines out. Was the first war where, "First in, Last Out" did not apply.
I did not mean to imply that one could not desent and disagree with the federal government. I was simply pointing out that those wrapped in the flag who use it to establish there patriotism and there politics in many cases, are wrapped in the flag that there government represents.

Firstly, Hoorah and thank you.
Secondly, @everyone: Hypocrisy is rampant. Of course there will be people who claim patriotism through the flag but also attack the nation the flag represents as well.
I think what is happening with the article above is total bull.
Thankfully the management company has apologized and will now allow the vet to keep his flag. I can't believe things like this even happen. The American flag can't be racist or offensive in our country. If it is, then the offended should leave our country.
BTW, Navy vet here.

We are pleased to announce that we have come to a mutual agreement with the Prices that allows them to keep their American flag.
We would like to apologize to the Prices and to all American veterans. It was never our intention to hurt the Prices or disrespect what Mr. Price and all veterans have sacrificed for each and every one of us.
We have learned from this situation and will be revising our policy to allow our residents to honor America and display the American flag in a manner similar to the Prices.
Again we apologize to the Prices and anyone else who was offended by our actions. It is our sincere hope that our apology will be accepted and the changes we are making will be beneficial to our company and our residents.
Never seen that one. Not that it matters Obama is in no way a Patriot.
But this wasn't about Obama. You were saying other people who have Obama bumper sticker don't also have the American flag. My link was showing that someone can indeed support Obama and also love the American flag and/or be a patriot. (Under the assumption that having the American flag as a bumper sticker means they love it and/or they are a patriot.)

Sorry, I had moved on and was making reference to more recent posts.
Btw, what do all the vets think about the Presidents plans for memorial day?
Sure he is a patriot. Why would you question his patriotism? Because he doesn't do things your way?
Oh, and Obama's plans for Memorial Day include a wreath ceremony and remarks at a vets' cemetery in the Chicago metro area.
From the AP:
Obama to honor war dead on Memorial Day
(AP) – 1 hour ago
CHICAGO — President Barack Obama is paying his respects to America's war dead.
The president is scheduled to lay a wreath and deliver remarks Monday at a Memorial Day observance at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., south of Chicago.
