Anybody using this service?

Does anybody use this carrier? If so, how is the service and customer service? Are you experiencing drop calls, throttle data etc?

Thnx.

My husband and I both switched in January. We came from Sprint. My call quality has improved - but this is obviously going to be very dependant on where you are located. It is worth checking coverage maps because no service means no service. I have dropped a call on I-70, but when I checked the coverage it turns out I was driving through a small pocket of no service. I also know there have been service disruptions due to T-Mobile upgrading their network - but that impacts everyone on T-Mobile's network, and after a couple days of spotty service, people generally report an overall improvement.

Customer service is as interesting question. My experience has been very good - but I know other people have had problems. They use a third party call center, and I know there were major problems initially, and they changed who handled those calls. Personally, I would never call. They do have customer service forums that actual Solavei employees are active in. I've gotten questions answered in a timely manner there. The biggest surprise to me is twice now I've gotten a followup phone call in response to my forum posts. I've never experienced customer service like that before. I'm very impressed, but I'm probably an outlier on the positive side.

The official data policy is first 4GB unthrottled. I've never come close to that.

If you have any other questions, ask away.

what kind of phones can you bring over to solavei?

You can bring any unlocked GSM phone that would work on T-Mobile. The Nexus 4 is a great fit. Any unlocked T-Mobile phone would work. It gets a little bit confusing when you look at AT&T phones - because of the different frequencies used. Some will work great, some will be stuck with 2g data. In an effort to be more friendly to those AT&T phones (read iPhone) T-Mobile has been refarming areas to support the 1900mhz band. If you're in a refarmed area then unlocked AT&T phones should be fine.

There's a detailed thread here about T-Mobile phone compatibility.

What phone are you thinking about? Is it one you already own?

If you don't have a phone Solavei does have a phone seller partner. I don't have any experience with them (I got my Nexus 4 directly from Google) but it should give you an idea of some of the available phones that would work.

BTW I love my Nexus 4, and definitely recommend it.

thanks for the info!

I have virgin mobile but need a new phone so I am looking at what is out there. I like that you can bring any gsm phone from tmobile on. It would mean when I need a new phone it will cost less usually.

I would like a phone with 4g and ICS, other than that I am not too picky. I hear really good things about the Nexus 4 but I like having that expandable SD slot

Isn't the LG Optimus L9 compatible with Solavei also? It can be bought at Walmart for $199. I'm thinking of maybe getting it if I can't get the Nexus 4 or 5 in December.

If my money improves before December I may get one of the phones before my contract is up, but will dump VZW once it ends. I could use it with wifi and VOIP (GV) until then.
