Root Remove the bar under recent apps screen

I'm rooted and on stock rom and I somehow managed to delete the stock TouchWiz task manager. It's fine cause I don't need it, and whenever I launch it it just stays in the background until reboot. It was annoying, so good riddance. However, it completely removed the buttons at the bottom of the recent apps screen, but somehow the bar remained. I want it gone; it's annoying and it blocks some part of the bottom app thumbnail. Where in the root directory can I find the image file for this so I can delete it? Thanks in advance.

Oh and if ever that's not possible, how can I reinstall the task manager from its apk? Cause I made a backup of it before deleting it, but the package installer won't let me install it.

Hey franhound, I don't own your device, but I'm guessing you might need to re-install the TouchWiz task manager as a system app.

Do you remember where you copied / backed-it up from? That will verify where it needs to be restored to.

If it is the case the it needs to be restored to /system/app, then take a look at this thread for a framework and options for how to do this:

How To Install Any App As A System App On Android [Guide]

The only downside / issue that I see is if you're running a newer version of Android that changed the behavior of how mount are seen across different processes (i.e., remounting /system in read-write mode in an app like Root Explorer possibly won't be reflected/seen in another app or adb session).

Root Explorer seems to handle remounting /system in read-write mode just fine, so if you can use that app it should work for you (when you navigate to the /system folder, there's a small "Mount R/W" button just above the file list that will allow you to remount the file system in R/W mode.

So, I did the thing. I've put the apk on /system/app and fixed the permissions. What's next? It still fails when I click the apk to install it.

The act of copying it to /system/app is the installation process. Once it's in /system/app and the permissions are set all you should have to do is reboot

Well, you need to remount the /system filesystem in order to update it (i.e., re-insert you .apk file in the /system/app folder).

Otherwise, it's read-protected (R/O = read-only).

Also, do you have a Nandroid backup you can fall back on (restore from if need be)?

I'd hate for you to get yourself in trouble (boot-loop etc.) from doing any of the above (or from what you've already done

).

So, should it be set to R/O or R/W? How can I make the system read the system/app folder again for the changes I made to apply. I'm using ES File Explorer by the way. And there's this mount R/W feature when you click the root explorer feature. Do you recommend any better tool for this?

Oh and I tried to reboot and nothing happened. It didn't read the apk I pasted.

Like I mentioned above, I originally used Root Explorer.

It looks like version 3.2.0 of ES File Explorer just auto-remounted /system in read-write mode itself when I tried to create a new file, so I'm guessing it'll just do that for you when you paste the .apk in /system/app.

Is your .apk in /system/app and secured properly?

Also, you haven't answered my questions about a Nandroid backup.

Not owning your particular phone makes me wary of giving you additional help that might lead you into a non-functional device.

Oh, but if you do have some other Galaxy phones, I think you might be able to relate somehow. Besides, we're only gonna install a lost system app. Are there any other necessary steps that I missed?

About the Nandroid backup, I did see that feature on Odin. Should I... do it first?

Okay, what if... instead of trying to reinstall the lost system app, I try to remove the bar at the bottom? How do I do that? Is it possible to locate its directory and delete the image file?
