So i purchased a htc one v from the virgin mobile network.

On opening the base compartment i discovered that there was no sim card area exposed. Instead this version is enclosed with plastic.
I would assume that if i open the device with a screwdriver that there will be a sim card area. however i'm not sure if it would be enabled.

Secondly,i'm not sure if the virgin mobile software would accept a sim card.
So i want to know:

1. Will the slot be there and active if i open it?
2. Will it be possible to flash the phone to a different carrier's firmware?

Plz give me a detailed response with some sources. I wanna be sure of whether or not it is possible to use this as a gsm device

Virgin in the USA is a CDMA carrier, as such does not use a SIM card.

The data normally on a SIM card is held in ROM memory in the phone. CDMA Phones CANNOT work with 3G networks.

Information regarding CDMA Vs. 3G can be found in various posts in these forums and over at xda-developers forums (fora?).

That statement isn't quite accurate. The htc desire is both cdma/gsm. HTC basically took the gsm version and covered it to virgin mobile. All they did was disable the gsm slot which is blocked with a rubber or plastic casing. However, the first slot was enabled for the VM sim. Here is the key, The first slot is capable of using a sim card.

SLOT 1 IS WCDMA/GSM.
SLOT 2 IS GSM

A few people over XDA forms are working on unlocking it. i posted the links

byway thats for htc desire 816 not htc one sorry
