I recently rooted with the kingo android root. Not sure if it has to do with the boot loader being locked but now when I start up my phone, it stays stuck on the "lg security error" screen. I am on ICS. Tried factory resetting and nothing.

Yes. Changing the system apps (including baked-in Google stuff) leads to a brick. As far as I know there's no way around it and you will need to follow one of the unbricking tutorials.
Rooting alone is safe. As long as you don't remove system apps it will be fine.

Yeah I followed one of the the
Tutorials a while back. Had to use the lg flash tool. Now I just have most bloatware disabled.
