Just what it sounds like... it means the phone has been turned into a plastic paperweight, suitable only for masonry... In the case of ROM manager vs prevail, it inputs information for the wrong processor on the phone (i believe) so it is no longer able to use the processor and will not power on. It no longer knows it a phone...

TOTALLY agree with you... Wasn't bashing ROM manager, i know it works with supported phones... I was saying vs the prevail, being that it's not supported, it will flash the wrong info for the prevail... Any yes it is user error... But using it to flash anything, atm, with the prevail, is user error
I hard-bricked my Prevail by using Rom Manager. And yes, it was definitely user error. I never said the program was to blame. Just a tip.... Mobiletechvideos.com offers a JTAG service that can restore a hard-bricked phone. It's $30 and I got my phone back in a week. It's been fine ever since.
unless something has changed last time i knew he had to edit graphics.c in the android_bootable_recovery section. which would cause koush to deny official status.
me personally dont see a reason why everyone wants rom manager support. the only thing that will happen then is you can flash cwm in the app.. there wont be any roms or themes or kernels in there....
I for one would love to see ROM manager support our phone, but since you have to use Odin to root it as is, i would be much more interested in seeing Mobile Odin support. For "the flasher on the go"
Not 100% related, but wanted to avoid posting a new thread on this. Does Rom Manager support the new Evo Design 4G phone? (Which has been around since 2011 on Sprint. A bit older if you count the Hero S which has the same partition mount points as the Design and the roms can be used on each other)
Koush should really make a dedicated "supported" devices list for Rom Manager.
In case you forgot or didn't know, you're supposed to make a backup of your phone, but that's all I know. I am wondering if you can use ODIN blindly even though you can't see anything on phone?? Don't forget that you can reset the phone by going into settings on the phone itself. I can't seem to find the USB driver for the Prevail. Anyone have it here? send the link please! thanks!

As far as what causes problems it's trying to install a rom. You can use some of the other features fine but stay away from custom roms from rom manager.
Actually if you are unable to power on the device or able to power on but unable to reach recovery or bootloader (Downloading! Screen) than you can either go through Samsung and hope that they will repair the phone, however if the warranty is void due to rooting/custom rom installation etc. You can find someone to resurrect the phone via JTAG (Complex repair involving some disassembly and soldering, then formatting and force install official firmware back on phone). Some places charge for this service and there are individuals who also perform the services for a donation. If you'd like more information or advice regarding a possible soft brick vs hard brick on your phone and the required repair, feel free to contact me on here. Just pm me.
ROM Manager isnt to blame for what could be your own mistakes. I think RM is a great app and it probably didnt brick your phone. You may have by flashing a recovery maybe not meant for you phone.
Root is a way that you can take over your device and do what you want, get rid of all the junk apps that you don't use. You can also run custom roms that do extras too.
The dummies thread explains how to get rooted and fix low memory and customize the phone.
The prevail is a great phone but is outdated. The s3 is an awsome phone and I noticed ebay has them cheap. Thats where I got mine from, I have 2 and had got 2 prevails from there too, no problems whatsoever.
