transferring number from Virgin Mobile to Straight talk...a couple of questions.

I am presently using Virgin Mobile but just bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace to use on Straight Talk.

From what I understand, I can transfer/port my Virgin Mobile number to Straight Talk. I have a few questions about that.

1) What will happen to my Virgin Mobile service once the phone number has transferred to Straight Talk? I will still have a couple of weeks of service left for this month and I would like to still be able to use that (VM) phone in case I don't like Straight Talk.

2) Can I start my Straight Talk service with a new number and, if I like the Straight Talk service, transfer my Virgin Mobile number to Straight Talk at a later date?

Thanks.

1. Your Virgin Mobile service will be terminated when you port your number, so you would loose those two weeks. You should be able to port the number back to VM is you didn't like ST.

2. Not sure if ST allows that, but I know many carriers will let you switch after starting service.

Since you want to keep your number - do not cancel your current service before transferring the number. A number must be active to be transferred.

1.) You're Virgin Mobile account is canceled the moment the port request goes through on the other end. The only exception being (in Canada) if you have a 3 year contract and do not fall under the Wireless Code of Conduct yet. If that is the case it would take 30 days and would suspended until the 30 days are up, at witch point it would cancel. The reason being that in the 3 year contracts there would've been something in the original service agreement that states you have to give 30 days notice to cancel.

If for some reason you want to go back to Virgin they totally take you back, its not SUPER well known on the side of the agent taking the call, but its called a "winback", often it would involve talking to another department.

2.) You can do that, only downside is that you'd be paying for two phones, and if you choose to port your number in later into the activation from another provider, there may be number change fees.
