Root Sprint HTC One M8 Rooting Gone Wrong

Hello All!

I've unlocked and rooted my HTC One M8 (Sprint) and tried to put the Android 5.01 Google Play Edition ROM on it (the appropriate Sprint/CDMA ROM). Well, it mostly went well, until after it finished updating apps post install. Now it just has the boot animation looping constantly. When I force-reboot it by holding the power and volume up buttons, it boots into the boot options menu but it ONLY has HBOOT for me to choose. I cannot access fastboot or the recovery mode. So I cannot access the phone through those options or the fastboot command lines from a PC (USB debugging). Is there anything I can do, any tool I can download to fix this or am I just hosed?

Thanks for the responses!

OK, cool, thanks.

I could uselessly speculate about partition changes and stuff I don't know about with that GPE rom but you don't need that.

What you need are guys smarter than me for this situation.

I'm going to go send some messages and light up my hangouts and see if I can reach them for you.

In the meantime - please specify your device history so they have the full picture on arrival -

Were you on the latest 4.4.4 from Sprint when you started?

The Captain linked two TWRPs - please post the link for the one you used, if you remember (try browser history if unsure).

Please write down everything shown on the hboot screen, unless you have some camera where you can take and upload a *clear* picture of it.

If you experienced any other difficulties along the way, please describe briefly including any correction steps.

Please understand that it's not about putting you under the microscope, it's about putting your phone there so those guys can try to decode what you might try next.

Meanwhile, don't panic, don't try more things, wait for the experts - in my experience with similar cases that's the best way.

Stand by. :)

OMG, taking out the SD card did it! I have all the boot options now and can get into the recovery options! Thank you so much!

Why does taking out the SD card make all the difference?
Fastboot scans the sd card looking for any image updates there as almost the first step.

If something glitches, it hangs at that point.

What's the glitch? You'll have to find out later - bad file on sd card, sd card gone bad, or just one of those glitchy things.

(Thanks @scotty85 for getting me smart on that!)

See this is why I love this forum, always learning. Case in point I knew hboot looks for the img file when it boots but would I have thought to pull the sd card out and then try, nope! Thank you guys (Hope i remember if I need it)
Same here! I watched @Granite1 help someone with that advice and I just glazed and went whatever lol.

It makes *perfect* sense as soon as it's been explained. :D
