Root [GUIDE] Re-flash stock ROM (RUU) after bricking a rooted device

Hi CafeKampuchia / Zombie591

am having this problem with my device, it says "No OS" and it all happened because of Supremo_v30.....

i cannot install any custom Rom, nor can i flash a stock rom, i've tried all the possible ways but no avail..tried to update custom JB it gets updated but keeps looping boot,
I tried even to flash ubuntu on it but it says could not mount "sd ext"

i can get only till Hboot, i get options such as fastboot, Recovery, Factory reset, simlock, Hboot USB, Image CRC and show barcode.

Device: Primoc pvt ship S-on RL
Hboot-1.57.0000
Radio-1.00.00.0928
emmc-boot

Sorry, I haven't been on here much, been playing with my Evo design after I accidentally destroyed (funny story really haha) my one V. But I see this is from last month, are you still having issues?

Ok, so it seems I have messed my One V up, which is, partly at least, due to a poor guide on installing a custom ROM.....myONEv....

Anyway, to sum up series of events.... it seems my recovery didnt save o sd properly or some other such nonsense..... so thats not an option.... When I flased the ROM the phone booted fine, but WiFi woldnt work, and their was some simlock nonsense gong on..
so i went back into fastboot and flashed the boot.img per guide, then it said to erase cache..... which I did.... now, I can get into hboot, twrprecovery, etc. it will let me flash roms to my hearts content, but no matter how many custom recoveries I try, and no matter what ROMs/boot.img it hangs on the This build is for development.............. screen. I looked through the list of RUUs but I dont want to make things worse by using the wrong one. I have a US Celular HTC One V (CDMA) which one do I use?????????? Will it make a difference? the erase cache seems to have mad a huge pile of junk out of my phone (which is just a spare with a cracked screen, but its better than practicing on my DNA)

Ive tried to be as specific as possible wth the whole mess, and would appreciate as much help as I can get as soon as I can get it....

Thanks in advance.

Hmm. Not very familiar with users from U.S. Cell. Most roms are for either Virgin Mobile USA CDMA or standard international GSM users.

Stock Files - TeamUSCellular

most of the issues you are experiencing are due to you being on a U.S. Cellular device and these roms are made for either Virgin Mobile USA or International GSM.

now if i remember correctly, the img linked above will automatically begin to flash to the device when you boot into hboot. sit back and let it do what it has to do then reboot. you should be back to original stock. but i know nothing about your particular carriers device setup so its a crap shoot. i know the virgin mobile usa variant of the same file starts reflashing upon reboot to hboot. file must be in root of SDCard. upon complete reset, you will be back to original stock,no root and will be back to original recovery as well.

Thank you SO much for this guide. I had some major issues with Cyanogenmod and its not supporting HTC DIAG mode and Modem mode so I couldn't edit anything with QPST. Following your guide I finally ... FINALLY - after two days - managed to restore my phone to the stock Sense ROM so I can now finally use all the dialer codes.

Just a few things I learned along the way (tips for noobs after me):

1) When the OP talks about Android SDK files, he's talking about the fastboot files.

2) If your RUU is stuck on "sending," it's okay to unplug your phone, as long as your RUU is really stuck on "SENDING" AND NOT ANYTHING ELSE. The process doesn't take that long so if it's sending unplug and re-run.

3) You probably want to use Windows 7 to do all this. I tried earlier to flash my phone back to stock but it didn't work at all on Windows 8. Drivers didn't work.

4) The correct RUU is located in the "Primo" folder on the androidfiles site. The "Sprint" RUU also works for Virgin Mobile HTC One Vs (in the filename you'll see VM which stands for Virgin Mobile).

5) Twitter is a great way to get in contact with the Virgin Mobile Support Team ("Virgin Angels.") Highly, highly recommended. Or just straight email the Virgin Angels ("saveme@thevirginangels.com")

Again, thanks so much for this great guide!

Also in general if you have a HTC One V consider flashing RhythmicRom - I love it!

Before you start, you will need to set up your computer to properly recognize the phone. You probably did this when rooting originally, but just in case... Install SDK tools for Android, Java runtime, and HTC Sync.

About HTC Sync: The only reason you need HTC Sync installed is for the USB drivers that come with it. But the program itself has been known to cause conflicts. Make sure that HTC Sync is not running in the background by opening Task Manager in Windows and killing it if you find it lurking in there.

Here we go:

1. Download the correct RUU (ROM Update Utility) for your device from androidfiles.org. Make sure you download a Primo_C RUU for a CDMA device (no sim card) or a Primo_U RUU for a GSM device (uses a sim card)!! Also make sure you get the correct RUU for your carrier.

2. Charge the battery above 50% or for at least one hour. If the battery dies during the flashing process, you could hard brick the phone!

3. Run the RUU until the wizard comes up. While the RUU wizard is open, find the temporary folder it created. (Open Explorer in Windows and type %temp% in the navigation bar.) There will be two folders with long encrypted names. In one of them you will find ROM.zip. Open it with 7zip and extract recovery.img or recovery_signed.img. Put it in the location were you've installed Android SDK tools. This is the stock HTC Recovery and it is needed to run the RUU.

4. Boot the phone into bootloader (power off, hold down volume and press power) and highlight FASTBOOT using the volume rocker and pressing power. Then connect the USB cable. You should see FASTBOOT USB.

5. Open a command prompt in Windows and navigate to the folder where you installed Android SDK tools. Flash the stock recovery extracted in step 3 above using the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
or
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
6. Relock the bootloader using the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
7. Re-run the RUU. It will restore the device to it's original condition, locked (though *** RELOCKED ***) and unrooted.

Once the install is done you'll have unlock the bootloader again using the token you already have from the first time, reflash CWM Recovery and re-root. All this will be 10x easier than the first time.

If you do re-root your phone, be 100% you backup the stock ROM in ClockworkMod Recovery before making changes!

I ran HTC's ROM software for my HTC One sv Boost K2_CL, did the temp search & found the ROM zip. I have winzip ver. 18. When you go to unzip it gives an error. I tried inside the temp folder because I had copied to another file where I have the HTC ROM software and it still would not unzip. Downloaded the 7zip software (nice, see where you can extract to ROM) and it gets error trying to unzip as well. I tried to just extract, another different type box opens and it has a password entry on it. So HTC has password protected to prevent using their ROM flasher if your phone is having trouble.
All I can think of.

The zip is encrypted, yes.

You don't have to unzip it to flash it
