Root [International] HELP! S4 stuck at Boot Logo after installing custom ROM.

Uboat cannot get into download mode ironass, old bean.

I can only suggest a USB jig to force it into download (odin) mode. Never have I spent a measley couple of quid on a more valuable piece of hardware.

Hi Dyno!

To be honest, I did indeed miss that. Liquid lunch. That would be because of the wrong PhilZ Recovery being flashed. As you correctly state... A USB jig is the only hope now.

Thanks for quick replies!

Dynomot is right. I can't get the phone into download mode (either), which I need to flash new stock Samsung firmware, right? Odin won't recognise my phone anymore....

If this is the case, is usb-jigg the only solution? I am willing to take that chance, no problem. If that does not work, can a Samsung Service Point fix my phone (probably costs a fortune...)?

Again, thanks for quick replies,

You're great!

A USB jig should get you out of trouble otherwise it is a Samsung repair centre.
To use one take out battery, put it back in and just plug the jig in. The phone should jump straight to down load mode, pull the jig and flash stock firmware with Odin.

One last thing you could try to get into download mode, but it probably won't work, however is worth a shot : Pull the battery, wait 30 seconds or so then holding the three keys (volume down, home and power) reinsert the battery.

The s4 doesn't have a 3 button combo, or at least it's a convoluted and potentially error-prone way to attempt to do so.

When the phone is switched off, press and hold the power button until you feel it vibrate. As soon as you feel it vibrate, press and hold the volume-down button immediately.
This will get you into download mode and i am willing to bet my entire North African cheese grater collection on it.

Of course, replace the volume-down key press with volume-up if you want to boot into recovery instead, and i may even put my Peruvian thermal sock collection up for grabs on this one, but as you have been messing around with recovery, i will only put my well-worn ones on the line here.

It is a long time since the S4 was in my sweaty palms Hawker, I honestly can't remember if the classic three button combo was the correct way to enter download mode on it. However since you offer your cheese grater collection and some of your Peruvian llama wool thermal socks if your wrong, (it is the llama wool ones your risking isn't it?) you must be correct, and my middle aged memory has let me down again.

dynomot!

You are brilliant!

Pulling out the battery, wait +30 sec, holding the three buttons and then reinserting the battery made it happen, i.e. entering download mode!!!!:):)

After that I could install the correct version of Philz touch recovery CVM. I could then reboot, enter PhilZ recovery mode and find the correct line that said update ZIP file from SD-card. However when using the TrulyClean_v1.6 file to remove Samsung bloatware, it passed through the installation, but the files were still there.

After that I noticed that my mobile's WIFI would not turn on (not sure it's related to the script part though) and the WIFI symbol was only semi-green + that the phone was getting warmer and warmer, otherwise the phone worked alright and I could use it to make calls. Went into flight mode and the normal temperature was back again. Probably something wrong in the sw that uses high level of CPU?

After this testing I am now waiting for the download of stock firmware and will follow the description ironass published yesterday (thank You very much) and flash my S4 with the stock firmware and then redo the rooting etc.according to the description...(with the correct file versions this time, of course:rolleyes:).

Will update this post as I am doing any progress.....

Thanks again!

Hi!

A progress update:
Stock Firmware now installed (I9505XXUGNJ8_I9505NEEGNJ2_I9505XXUGNJ8_HOME.tar.md5), phone rooted (CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5) and PhilZ CVM installed (philz_touch_6.58.7-jflte.tar.md5). All according to the great advice earlier posted by ironass Sunday at 6:48 PM!

All works (does not get warm anymore, WIFI works aswell), wanted to carry out this process to see if I managed to flash back stock firmware and get rid of the problems I had encountered during my earlier trial.

Will now look into JFLTE-GPE 5.0.1 (Google Play Edition) and see if this one will work for my S4 LTE GT-I9505.

Does anyone know if the JFLTE-GPE 5.0.1 custom ROM works on my S4 LTE GT-I9505 (now back on KitKat 4.4.2 Nordic Country version, I9505XXUGNJ8)?

Cheers!

If you are able to get into Download Mode you can flash a stock Samsung firmware for your model of phone and CSC code as per #1.5 of 29 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?

This will unroot your phone and you will need to re-root and install a custom recovery as per the All Things Root Stickies

For further help...

#1 Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S4 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

For more information, see, 29 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?

(TIP If you are a poster it is a good idea to mention your model number and firmware version in case this has a bearing on your problem.

Better still, if you have 25+ posts, you can go to the black bar at the top of this forum and click on your
Username, which will show a drop down menu. Just select, "Signature", and you can enter in the signature box the details of your phone, i.e. - "Galaxy S4 i9505". This ensures that your device details are shown in every post you make. You can update this as often as you like and will help other users immediately identify your phone and firmware.

Remove your battery for 30 seconds and then replace it and boot into Recovery mode with the phone switched off.
Hi Ironass!
I have some weird problem with my I9505. Worked just fine, till one day when it crashed. Got it on my pocket and when pull it out was freezed in boot screen with blue "recovery booting" on left top. Pulled out battery but nothing changed after power on. Tried safemode (doesnt work), tried recovery mode (same) and even tried rewrite stock firmeware with Odin (got pass in odin but same thing after reboot). I must say I haven't rooted the phone, as it was rolling on stock. Can it be a hardware problem!? The phone had taken some bumps from my toddler, but none in the day it died.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Victor2603 :)

Sorry to hear you are having problems. It is a strange issue that you are having. You were running on stock Samsung firmware. Your phone has never been rooted. It will not go past the boot screen, You cannot boot into Recovery Mode. It will not boot even after successfully flashing stock firmware.

At this point I am running out of ideas. Your model is definitely the i9505 and not one of the minority variants? Which firmware did you flash to your phone. Could you post a link.

Hello and thank you for your quick response! I'm not entirely sure about the phone's status because i've got it from a friend as a "gift". Actualy the digitizer was broken and a repair to a service was too expensive (almost the price of a SH working one). I decided to ordered a digitizer with frame from e-bay and replaced all hardware from one to another (cost me half the service was charging). I worked fine for about 6 months and never had problems with it. For about two weeks I had experienced some restarts when the phone was bumped or droped on table. It seems the problem was some oxide on the batery contact pins (scratched it with a screwdriver).
Now back to our topic....I've tried rewrite the firmware using I9505XXUHOJ2_I9505OXAHOJ2_I9505XXUHOJ2_HOME.tar.md5
I've attached some picture with the phone's back...it definitly is i9505...
