Root Which is the best S-OFF method?

I've rooted my phone using this guide (How To: Root the HTC Desire (Unrevoked Method) (Updated 1.18.11) | TheUnlockr) as I came across it before the forum.

It shows unrevoked as having an S-OFF util but when I try and run it it just generates some errors saying unsupported version.

I looked at the supported radio versions on AlphaRev and mine doesn't seem to be listed (5.11.05.27).

Any ideas?

Unrevoked is the only way to S-off CDMA (no sim card) desires.

Alpharev is the only way to s-off GSM (Uses sim card) desires.

Unfortunately I gave it a try last night and it fails. When it finds my phone it complains about various missing paths then says it's an unsupported device.

It tries to list all the phone info but it's all blank.

I can't even report it to the devs as they'll only discuss it on IRC which I don't use

What hboot version do you have? Assume its a lower version than 1.06?

You may have to flash an older radio to use alpharev.

Have you flashed any roms since rooting? Often people have to go back to a HTC sense rom in order to s-off.

What rom are you on now? Have you implemented anything to save internal memory space (for example the force apps to SD using "setInstallLocation 2" trick)?

Nope no ROMS flashed. All I've done is is root using Unrevoked. It's an O2 Desire with whatever the latest patch is from them for 2.2.

I'll redownload AlphaRev later after work and try again. I'll also get a photo of the screen to show what it's doing.

Is there a way to use alpharev without booting from a cd?

Create a virtual machine, with usb support and boot that from cd. Or maybe it will run direct in Linux

Yes, eventually resources for 5 year old phones will disappear from the Web. That's to be expected. The previous post was 4 years old.

This was an old method anyway. But that was just some instructions - the actual alpharev.nl site, and the site for its sucessor (http://revolutionary.io/) are both still up, and have their own instructions, and searching this forum will find other threads describing how to use them.
