Hi there

I'd forgotten about my post, and have moved away from using my phone as a music source in favor of an iPod.
My earlier message was severely truncated - perhaps due to text limitations - so I've reincluded the whole thing here in case it's of use to you. If it truncates again - well, I tried.

I have a Galaxy Ace S7275 phone – a cut down version of the high end models, and perhaps lacking some of the functionality in those models.
I have found that music playlist management on the phone cannot handle what I want from it. I have a store of over 1600 mainly R & B songs from the 1950s and early 1960s. In those days the music industry demanded that tracks not exceed 2½ minutes, which means that a lot of checkmarks would be required against songs to compile a playlist of reasonable length.
The phone’s lack of ability to sort a playlist by Artist is a major drawback to what I want, ditto the inability to easily create playlists that are a subset of the large music store on the phone. Over the years, each of the CDs I’ve burnt consists of a series of individual songs, or a handful of songs, from several different artists. I have transferred all these CDs to the phone, with a view to play them in my car via Bluetooth and voice commands. I frequently drive 5 hours to my holiday home, and I wanted to construct playlists of 3 CDs each, giving a playtime of about 4 hours, which is enough for some radio news and quiet time to fill the trip out. For the playlists I wanted to retain variety – a handful of tracks from Elvis Presley, then a handful from Fats Domino, and so on. I do not want one or two very large and unwieldy playlists, with or without shuffle. Nor do I want to listen to a single artist’s songs spread over several playlists (which I could do on my phone if I wanted to).
I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to mobile technology, synching etc, so what I’m about to say may show my lack of understanding. Readers may be able to suggest a simpler solution to my needs.
I couldn’t get Kies, iTunes or Windows Media Player to do what I wanted, but I came up with the following solution, where all the selection and sorting is done on my Windows 7 desktop computer. It requires that all my songs have the Artist name as a prefix to the song title (eg Fats Domino-Blueberry Hill). This is how I’ve historically tagged my music, so it took no extra effort (but if the phone could sort each playlist by Artist, only Blueberry Hill would be required in the title).· Connect the phone to the computer. The phone appears as GT-S7275R in the folder list.· Copy and Paste each of the 3 CDs into a folder on the computer named List1 (or similar). Ensure that it is sorted on Contributing Artist (it should default to this).· Send List1 to GT-S7275R. It arrives in sorted order as a folder named List1 in the Music folder in Card (the SD card, not phone memory).· Right click on List1 on the phone, and select Create Playlist.· On the phone’s Music App, select Playlists. The title of the new playlist (New Playlist) can then be edited to a name of your choice.

This process produced playlists the way I wanted them. If anyone has any comment – even critical – I would welcome them. I apologise if this topic has been discussed before.
