Any Time is Grillin Time

I have a two bedroom cabin on the Ninnescah river in Kansas. It's an old house someone moved in there years ago. Nothing fancy for sure but it's close to home and the fishing is good. I want to build a covered deck on the front and I want to build a cooker of some sort... then it would be perfect for me. Here is a pic taken last summer looking out the back toward the river.

Wow, you have your own still! Close to home means you probably get a lot of guests. :) I used to think it would be nice to be closer to home so we could stay up here longer. We are 3 hrs from Milwaukee. Now that we have retired up here, I am glad we aren't any closer. Nice pic!

Only in the low 30s yesterday, but I grilled up some pizza burgers anyway. Not much easier than that.

It's a half hour drive to the cabin. The still is actually a very old propane tank that nobody dares to fill lol. I have some great times at the river. I like to fish and the wife loves to fish. Parties are always fun too. Having two bedrooms and two couches that make beds, we often have guests that decide to stay vs driving home. That's ok... it's fun.

I grilled out some burgers tonight. It was warm out but a bit breezy. It was easy cooking and good eating.

My son was over late last week. I was in the middle of grilling some burgers so we sat out on the patio while I grilled.
He was so impressed with the ease of grilling burgers on the pellet grill that he now has a great desire for one. He's had some of my smoking efforts and enjoyed but like most people he is always grilling.... mostly burgers and dogs.
The ability to set the temperature and only turning the burgers over if you want to turned him on. I bet he lands one this summer.

When we had Oreo, she loved the water. She would jump right in and go after anything that moved. That meant no fishing for us. :) We don't have room for much entertaining. We usually only invite a couple at a time. In the summer we could have 10 or so.

Burgers are always a nice easy thing to grill. Did you dr. them up some? I would have liked to have gotten a pellet grill. Don't they take a long time to heat up?

We have lots of room for tents... and we have had those that enjoyed pitching one. I have a camper receptacle and water hookup on the exterior for those inclined. The more the merrier :) Mostly it's my old school buddies that I have stayed close with.. their kids that my kids grew up with... and now grand kids. It's nothing but good times.

Just guessing, from start to 400 degrees, you are looking at eight minutes for my pellet grill/smoker. I'm very accustomed to the time. I spend that time prepping whatever is headed for the fire... it's no biggie. The fun thing about a pellet grill is it's really a convection oven of sorts. In the winter you can throw your burgers on the grill, run back in and warm up, return to put cheese on them 12 minutes later and bring them in. No turning... no flame ups..
And you don't mind the smoky taste either. :)

My brother had a cabin on Little Sand Lake in MN. He had lots of space for setting up tents too. He has 4 kids and they would bring up friends. They would eat all his food and drink all his beer, without even an offer to buy more. He sold it and bought a place further away. Maybe one of the reasons we decided to build small. The kids are a lot older now and have kids with kids.

I was under the impression it would take a good 20 minutes to heat up a pellet grill. Have not have the opportunity to eat anything that has been cooked on one.

Fortunately, my kids are all grown. I can see how that could be a serious problem. The only problem I have now is I just can't party all night like the kids. I go to bed and leave the campfire with them. :)

The pellet grill is an easy way to smoke meats and it makes for a pretty fair grill. I've found it to be more expensive to operate than propane. I think the expense is well worth the difference however. Real smoking is done with wood.
I'm cheating lol. I can set the temp and let it rock and roll. Half the art of smoking is knowing how to obtain the right temp and keeping it constant with wood. I just dial it up... yep, it's cheating. I can set it and go work for a few hours knowing my stuff is doing great without my attention. That's worth a lot to me.

It got to 87 here today. It was down right hot. It would have been a great night to grill out something but... I had Easter leftovers lol. I had planned to cook something out yesterday but the wife had a new casserole she wanted to do. It was good... some sort of breaded and fried pork chop and brown rice thing. It was still good tonight. :)

I'm camping out again this weekend. I'm thinking about making up a bunch of shish kabobs. Would make for something fun to eat and easy grilling. The work is putting them together... something I can do before I head to the cabin. Polish sausage, chicken, steak, surrounded by mushrooms, bell pepper, and pineapple will be the ingredients. I like to grill fresh jalapeno in there somewhere... but it's too early in the year.
